Wong activated
On Wednesday, the St. Louis Cardinals activated Kolten Wong off the 10-day disabled list. The second baseman had been there since August 26 due to a left hamstring strain that occurred when he was running out a ground ball in Denver.
Wong is batting .244 (74-for-303) with eight home runs and 32 RBI in 110 games for St. Louis. Since the All-Star Break, the 27-year-old’s .342 average (25-for-73) was the 10th-highest in the National League at the time of his injury.
While Wong was out, Greg Garcia and Yairo Munoz shared second base duties. Since August 26, here are their slash lines (while playing all positions):
- Garcia (21 at-bats): .143/.182/.143/.325
- Munoz (24 at-bats): .333/.429/.542/1.071
Wong becomes St. Louis’ 31st active player as the club takes advantage of expanded rosters in September.

Redbirds right
The Triple-A Memphis Redbirds roster was two players down coming into Wednesday’s playoff opener. That was rectified by the return of one player from a short personal absence and arrival of another whose Triple-A debut is just ahead.
Randy returns
The Redbirds activated Randy Arozarena from the temporarily inactive list. The outfielder had been placed there on August 31, so missed Memphis’ final four games.
The TI list is used for an excused leave of absence of at least three days duration. The reason can arise from one of a number of personal situations including paternity, bereavement or a family medical emergency.
The Cuban native, now a Mexican resident, is The Cardinal Nation’s 12th-ranked prospect. With Memphis, the right-handed hitter has a pedestrian slash line of .232/.328/.348/.676 in 89 games this season.
Elledge advances
Reliever Seth Elledge has been promoted to Memphis from Springfield, whose season has ended. The 22-year old has a 4.32 ERA in 16 2/3 innings over 13 games with a 20-to-6 strikeout to walk count with the Double-A Cards. The right-hander held Texas League batters to a collective .220 average, converted four of six save opportunities and logged a 3-1 record.
Elledge joined the Cardinals organization from Seattle for Sam Tuivailala on July 27. TCN’s 27th-ranked prospect will be making his Triple-A debut.
