From the St. Louis Cardinals
Tonight’s (Saturday, April 17) starting pitcher Kwang Hyun Kim will be making his first regular season start of the 2021 season and his first pitching appearance in game action since March 27 when he came in relief against the Marlins at Roger Dean Stadium, tossing 2.0 innings in relief.
Kim, who was experiencing back stiffness, was 3-0 and the Cardinals are 6-2 in games he pitched in during 2020. The Cardinals also won the lone Wild Card Series game in which Kim pitched last September.

In the corresponding transaction to Kim’s activation, right-handed pitcher Kodi Whitley has been optioned to the Alternate Training Site.
Pitching in relief of Carlos Martinez Friday night in Philadelphia, Whitley threw 42 pitches in 1 2/3 innings, yielding two earned runs on a home run by J.T. Realmuto. He allowed two hits, walked one and struck out two.
In two outings totaling 3 2/3 innings this season, Whitley has a 4.91 ERA. He joined the club from the alternate site on April 13, replacing optioned out pitcher Johan Oviedo.
With this pitcher-for-pitcher swap, the Cardinals continue to have 13 active pitchers and 13 position players.
