Brian Walton’s take
Miller was placed on the injured list on April 30 due to a blister on his right foot. The 36-year-old made three rehab appearances with Memphis prior to his return, allowing one run in three Triple-A innings.
Webb, 30, pitched his way out of a job after three years with St. Louis. The bottom line is 24 earned runs allowed over 16 1/3 innings this season (13.22 ERA). His 19 walks work out to an awful 20.7% walk rate.
The designated for assignment tag means the Cardinals have seven days to trade, put on outright waivers or release him. If he clears waivers, he could choose to report to Triple-A Memphis.
A by-product of this move is that the 40-man roster is now down to 39 players.
