    Well it couldn’t hurt.

Against the LHP, I’d like to see Edman and Muñoz both starting. The defense may take a bit of a hit, but the offense is in need of CPR.

cubs and brewers didn’t cooperate on the Cards day off Thursday and both won, with the cubs overcoming a 6-1 deficit against the Braves and Kimbrel picking up his first save. Cards now 3 back of the cubs and 2 back of the brewers.

Late ballgames on the west coast, nothing like them. The only thing that could make this better would be if it was on a Monday night.

I went to the Dubois County Bombers game tonight. They had a DH, and both games were 7 innings. They won both. I got there for half of the first game.

And Pugs, I didn’t see hide nor hair of the future Missus Rat. But I did have a 4 year old shit’na$$ kid that kept walking past me, trying to get out of the row of seats and into the aisle. I bet I had to move about 10 times for the little ……..

You know that you’re getting a little long in the tooth when you covet Mondays over Fridays. Dubois County Bombers sweep of a twin bill….sweet! No way Rat took his brand spanking new 540i to that game and risked getting it clipped by a foul ball off the bat of an anxious Bombers batter. Hey Rat…..you are NOT going to find the future Mrs. Esteemed RatsBuddy in that fine venue if you continue to be seen arguing with 4 year old children over things like which is the better tv show…..”Barney Miller” or “Barney” and “The Streets of San Francisco” vs “Sesame Street”.

I really dislike west coast games. As an eastern time zoner, it means I can maybe catch a few innings before lights out. I guess the plus side is that I don’t have to miss much if the team is frustrating. I’d really like to see this lineup tonight:

    Edman 2B
    Jmart RF
    Goldy 1B
    Ozuna LF
    Dejong SS
    Bader CF
    Muñoz 3B
    Yadi C

I don’t see Yadi ever hitting that low…and I personally am not sure i want him to with the way guys are hitting

I want sparks…even if they are invented right now by plugging in backups and trying pitcher hitting 8.

Edman, Munoz, Ozuna, Goldy, DeJong, Yadi, Pitcher, Bader

    JUST DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT

at least until it wakes everyone up

Edman and Munoz provide something new…move OZuna up a spot and let Goldy hit behind him, at least OZuna has been getting on…maybe having guys on in front of Goldy may help him get better balls…i dont know….move DeJong down to take off the stress…Yadi is YAdi…then go pitcher 8 and let Bader be the 9 and second leadoff

DeJOng seems to be asking for help in figuring a way out of the funk no?

That doesn’t make me feel very confident about whatever is being done internally to fix the offense

If they are all in on whatever Shildt is doing, i would expect to hear things like “Shildty has us goign in the right path and we can see the light at the end of the tunnel”…

but instead we hear frustration as if they all have no idea what to do or how to fix it

he says “Our approach literally is try to hit four singles in a row and, eventually, somebody’s going to hit a double and we’re going to score two or three,”

i definitely don’t see that at the palter and in the approaches…i see Wong trying to pull HRs and JMart swinging for the moon, Goldy flailing away and in the dirt and Carp swinging over the top of everything

Isnt it obvious what the scouting report is on both DeJong and Wong?

Pitch them up in the zone. DeJong cant do anything with the high strike except popup or flyout. Same way with Wong. Then give Wong the breaking pitch in the dirt.

Until DeJong and Wong learn to adapt to those high strikes they are going to flounder. If you don’t believe me just watch how the Padres pitch them this weekend.

That pitch up in the zone was Rick Ankiel’s undoing as a hitter. Once word got around to pitch him up, his offense went down.

DeJong and Bader have never been able to handle the slider low and away.

I agree with Mike Shannon regarding Carp. He takes too many pitches trying to get walks, gets behind in the count then either gets blown away with a fastball or caught looking then argues with the ump.

JMart doesn’t look the same as last year. He seems to have a lot more movement before the pitch and is swinging wildly and trying to pull everything.

My fear with Goldy is that he doesn’t feel like he can catch up with the fastball any longer so he has to sell out on the fastball which makes him very vulnerable to the breaking balls.

I remember some talk of Goldy’s bat not being able to keep up with the best fastballs last year when he started slowly and some were saying was in an age decline. I didn’t follow so closely because he wasn’t a Cardinal and later figured it was a bogus assessment since he turned it back on.

This year, I’m not sure what to think. He has sure smashed quite a few balls for big home run distance, but pulled them foul. That has made me think it might be more of a timing or mechanical issue rather than an incurably slow swing. Let’s hope.

I appreciate Edman is getting another start, which is the right call, but its basically the same lineup. Why not move the other guys around? Here’s what I’d go with:

    Edman
    JMart
    Goldy
    Ozuna
    DeJong
    Fowler
    Yadi
    Wong
    P

Lots of ticked off Cardinals out there right now. What happened to those days of 3 everyday players batting over 300? Speedy base burner at lead off? Great defense in the middle with everybody who could hit and bunt, including the pitchers? Well this team has some definite power hitters and some guys who wanna be but really should just be trying to get the ball out of the infield. Just doing what you are capable of doing would me them overall much better. Go Cardinals!

Cards might be getting a break. Reds lead the Cubs 6-0 in the top of the 7th at Cincinnati. Brewers the early lead, however, on the Pirates 2-1.

What a great play by Tommy Edman. I like this kid.

Runners at the corners with none out. Bader is up and needs to do a little damage.

May take some luck to score a run after the bases were loaded with none out. Wong grounds to the pitcher for a force out, and now Wacha up.

Well, that’s wonderful. Pretty much par for the course, except there was a little hope that they might have actually scored a run, even two. Enough for me for tonight. I could write the story for this one already.

How did Bader get out at 3rd? Gameday doesn’t give a good enough description. I don’t understand how he could be out while everyone else is safe.

Ozuna got picked off 1st to end the top of the 3rd and injured his hand diving back to the bag. He appeared to be safe at first removed his hand from the bag when he jammed it. Padres challenged the call and it was overturned.

    Munoz replaced Ozuna.

Tommy Edman catches a line drive bullet from Tatis. Whew. I’m not 100% certain Carp makes that play.
