Does it seem odd to anybody else that the Cards don’t play on Memorial Day this year? I thought it was a given that on the three holidays (Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day) that each and every team would have a game.
When was the last time we didn’t play on Memorial Day?

It stinks when your team doesn’t play on a Holiday. Four teams are off on this Memorial day, Cards, Phils, Giants and Braves. This has been going on for a while now. I have some fond memories of past Memorial Days that were loaded with double-headers, July 4th and Labor Day too. In the yesteryears there was plenty of baseball being played to large holiday crowds.
I don’t understand the way the game has evolved regarding this topic. Follow the money trail as always.
Rats…. have a cook-out party to pass the day or watch some TV marathon and catch up on some sleep.
ps. the Cards will have three days off in eight days with Memorial day being the third. And they will have the next Monday off as well. That’s why we start our schedule in March.
July 4th we play in Seattle and Labor day we host SF. So there’s that.
With the Cardinals having Memorial Day off, you can bet your life that Rat will be immersed in a Barnaby Jones/Mannix tv extravaganza, Nyquist. I offer this challenge to Rat……no food whatsoever on Memorial Day. We’ll see if Rat has the discipline and the heart to succeed with his challenge. Rat brings up a good point though…… I do not ever recall the Birds being off on Memorial Day, other than possibly due to in climate weather. Matter of fact, I think I recall them playing a twin bill vs the cubbies a time or two on Memorial Day when I was a little shaver…..though I actually did not shave at the time. Maybe they didn’t play on Memorial Day during WW1 & WW2? Could the winds of war be starting to swirl yet once again? Let’s hope not, but it’s the only thing that could ever reunite these once united States again.
With the revenues MLB bring in these days, it would be a great token to the fans to bring back holiday double-headers. They could be part of an all-day extravaganza with entertainment between the games, and maybe a big concert afterwards.
We are only talking a 2-3 games a year, and I would bet the marketing and finance guys could create revenue streams from these days to offset the loss of a single game. You would think concessions alone from a long day at the park with a big crowd would offset a game played on a Tuesday night, as an example. Probably need to increase security and crowd control measures, but it could really be a big eve2nt.
The more I think about it, the more I think it will happen some day. It is just too natural of a way to combine nostalgia, fun, and revenue. MLB has to be for that, at least for the third reason anyway.
Completely a miss by MLB but I’m sure the players enjoy having a Memorial Day off.
Cardinals should play on every holiday. There’s certain places where you should play on Memorial, 4th and Labor day. LA, NY, STL, CHI, WAS, BOS, PHI.

In today’s society 14Ny, Ladies Day would not be possible. It would be considered treating people different based on gender. Even though it is a nice gesture towards women, no one would support it unless it co-existed with “Mens Day” games.
We have made great strides in our social relations towards acceptance of people regardless of physical characteristics. But some of the consequences, such as the demise of Ladies Day games, are sort of sad to see having gone by the wayside.
