I am intrigued to see what they will do with Reyes if he continues to pitch well in a starting role at Memphis.
Oviedo and Seijas seemed to have improved this year. Oviedo had a very good second half last year, and Seijas seems more dominant with an improved strikeout rate. It seems both have matured this year.
Oviedo has thrown 27 pitches in 2 innings tonight. He often threw the same amount in single innings last year.
Correction. Chris Beck is listed on the Memphis roster and Game Notes wearing no. 55. However, the pitcher wearing no. 55 tonight who forced in two of Reyes' runners in Omaha is the former no. 51, John Fasola. #switcheroo

Peoria Chiefs at Beloit Snappers were rained out on Thursday night. The teams will attempt to play a double header on Friday at 5:00 p.m.

It’s good to see Oviedo starting to build on his promise. Are there any reports of anyone seeing him? I know that he had lost some velocity and that his second half improvement last year may have been in line with a gain in pitch speed.
A question on minor league travel please. I know that AA team travels on bus to their Texas League opponents. I always thought that AAA Memphis went by plane to all games but I read the other day that they were traveling by bus from Round Rock back to Memphis. Do they travel by a mix of plane & bus depending on distance? Thanks.
Also thanks for that info on the derivation of the Sod Poodles name. I tend to believe that as I spent some time in school at Amarillo Air Force Base in the 60s and prairie dogs were sure not a rarity. Palo Duro Canyon, just south of Amarillo, is a great place to see lots of the little guys.
Not a very encouraging outing for Reyes. If he can’t get his pitches under control he is in trouble.
Sounds like another good performance by Shew. He should be in Memphis at some point this year.
Reyes outing would have appeared to be much better had Fasola not hit a batter and walked another, forcing in two of Reyes’ runs. I had hoped Reyes would be allowed to get his final out, but he apparently reached his pitch count.
On the positive side, none of the Omaha batters were getting around on him. The three hits were all singles to the opposite field. Throwing more strikes is clearly his job no. 1.
Minuteman3, your travel assessment is correct.
gscottar, Nogowski is playing well, but he is second on the team in OPS, behind no. 8 hitter Johan Mieses. How about that oddity?
stlcard25, I have not seen Oviedo pitch in games in 2019. He was throwing side sessions when I was in spring camp. But I will be in Palm Beach in a few weeks and should be able to report on him then.
I have seen Oviedo pitch and he is impressive. He’s a big framed hard throwing youngster. Looks like a major league pitcher. If he keeps working on command look out!!
UncleDenny, have you seen him this year? What’s standing out that is helping him to have such success as compared to previous years?

Tommy Edman seems ready for a utility role with the big club. Robinson’s 40 man spot could be in jeopardy later in the year if a need arises. Until then, Edman can play most every day at Memphis.
Edman can play 2B, SS, and 3B. Good glove, but his bat is good, and the fact he is a switch hitter helps.
It’s the other way around, Minuteman. Edman’s a shortstop by trade.
So far as a minor leaguer, 2,000 innings at short, 600 at second, 200 at the hot corner. Defensive rep is solid, probably not quite as good as Edmundo Sosa at shortstop. But he’s a better asset on the bases by far than Edmundo. Real good speed & instincts for Tommy.
And of course Edman is a switch-hitter, which doesn’t hurt. Very nice prospect right now, edging close to Sosa for top 10 in the organization on my list.
Because Sosa is a better defensive SS (and is also hitting well), Edman is playing more 2B this season. But they are all moving around.
Edman and Sosa and Urias need to get some time at the major league level so that their trade value can go up. They need to show that they can hit major league pitching. It’s looking like any of them are good enough to be on a major league team.
The Cardinals do not promote players to enhance their trade value. They want the players that will help them win games.
P.S. Urias is hitting just .218 for Memphis. He should get his house in order before there is even a whisper of a call up to St. Louis – especially with so much competition.
