Peoria vs. Wisconsin – Jacob SchlesenerMempohis lost twice in two nights by way of San Antonio walk-offs and by identical 6-5 scores. Woodford is having a good start but the bullpen let him down again.
Springfield got smoked to run their record to 0-7. The pitching has been a disaster. There is a lot of good potential on the S-Cards and they just need a jump start.
First place Palm Beach has been getting some solid pitching performances as evidenced by being 5 up and 2 down. Their lineup is not as potent as Springfield’s but there have been a couple of guys stepping up. Prendergast is listed as tomorrow’s starer but he pitched 3.1 inninngs in relief of EMartinez last night.
Peoria got what they needed from Seijas (6.0inn 0ERs) who rebounded nicely last night. The Chiefs (3-4) are capable of putting up some big numbers on any night but also susceptible to being scored upon big time.

Alexander “The Great” dealing tonight…..sweet! Daytona better hope for a lot of P.B. errors, because they won’t be getting many hits.
CJ Saylor has been impressive out of the bullpen for Palm Beach. He didn’t make the opening day roster and he’s pitched better than 2-3 guys that did make the opening day roster. However, Palm Beach’s bullpen has been really, really good so far.
Palm Beach wins 6-0 behind a great pitching effort from Alex Fagalde and a bullpen of Saylor, Whitley and Fernandez.
Fagalde with 5 frames of scoreless 2 hit baseball to earn the W. He has to be destined for Springfield this year as he needs a challenge.
The other Alex the Great, aka Reyes pitched a solid 5th for Memphis. 11 pitches, 7 for strikes and 3 outs. Flyout, Popout, Flyout.
On another note, what’s with the low pitch count limit for Helsley? 52 pitches and 57 pitches.
Did Reyes just lose his strikeout stuff? He was K’ing guys like crazy before his injury last year and it’s like he’s tossing beach balls this year.
Reyes had a solid 2 innings. Outside of a 4 pitch walk, all else went well. Doubt he goes for a third inning.
Reyes threw 15 pitches in his second inning of work and 9 were for strikes. Both the stikeouts were swing strikes so that’s an encouragement.
Kruzel is coming off as an incompetent manager for Springfield so far this season. Kruczynski was already at 89 pitches after 5 innings and he’d already given up 8 hits and 5 runs including a HR and 8 strikeouts. I don’t understand sending him back out in the 6th when he’d all over the place. Anyways, two batters and 10 pitches later he give up another HR and gets pulled at 99 pitches with only 57 for strikes.
Fasola fanned the side in his inning for Memphis. Edman has three hits and finished 6-for-14 in the current series.

My guess is Reyes dialed back in the first inning just focusing on control. In the second he felt more confident and cut loose.
BHC, take a look at Springfield’s bullpen. Coming into tonight, they had only one reliever with an ERA under 6.23. Given that, I might stay with my best starter an extra inning, too.
Brian, I’m well aware of Springfield’s horrible bullpen. However, Kruczynski was already at 89 pitches and looked gassed after 5. I couldn’t believe it when I saw him going back out for the 6th. He struggled just getting through the 5th and threw 32 pitches that innings.
I get you disagree with his decision, but considering everything, it just seemed to me to be too strong to call the manager incompetent.
And while I type this, the Springfield pen just blew a three-run lead in the eighth.
The third run came home on a sac fly to medium center. Carlson made a terribly offline throw home that was at least 15 feet up the line. Sample size of one, though…
