stlcard25ParticipantNo Kershaw this series, which is nice. There will be a couple lefties to face though, which I haven’t checked the stats lately but it seems the team has hit a bit better against the left-handers lately. Hopefully another series win on the road against a wild card contender is coming up.
August 20, 2018 at 8:36 am #66040The Cards have improved to 21-15 vs. left-handed pitching this year. However, only because of the recent spurt has the team’s mark against winning opponents inched over .500. They are just 35-33 against the better teams this season and both opponents on this road trip have winning marks in 2018.
August 20, 2018 at 9:43 am #66042Absolutely love these late games from the west coast. The Colts are on ESPN at 8:00 and then the Redbirds out west against the Dodgers. This will be a two cigar night for me. Plus I’ll have the DVD recorder going for the Cards/Dodgers game soes I can watch it this winter when I need my baseball fix.
I am going to pull a Yaisel Pugs here and all this one 4-1 in favor of our beloved Redbirds.

August 20, 2018 at 12:21 pm #66065You “pulled a Yaisel Pugs” alright, Rat. You downright fleeced the final score exactly as I wrote it down earlier this morning….4-1 Birds on a Jose round tripper with 2 mates aboard. But at the risk of appearing to plagiarize the esteemed RatsBuddy, I’ll make my official call 4-2 Birds tonight. If it finishes 4-1, please remember to include me right along with Rat, in your unwavering praise. I definitely get the feeling that a curtain call is in the cards for me and RatsBuddy come about 1am this evening. While we are at it, anyone who calls tonight’s score perfectly will receive a box of sports collectibles big enough to choke a horse, compliments of your’s truly. And speaking of sports collectibles, I had the opportunity to frequent a Denver sports collectibles store with our very own BicycleMike this past friday and what a treat it was!! Thanks again, Mike!!

ParticipantThis looks like a trap series to me. The Dodgers are better than they’ve been playing lately and the Cardinals are playing above their heads. Although, I think this is where the Cards should’ve been playing all year, but Carpenter, Wong, Ozuna, and Fowler started the year horribly and Holland, Gregerson and crew were awful in the bullpen.
August 20, 2018 at 3:14 pm #66080Good point, Pads. In the Cards’ favor is the fact that the Dodgers’ closer is on the DL and their pen has been in disarray.
August 20, 2018 at 5:40 pm #66084Molina rests after 27 straight.

August 20, 2018 at 5:58 pm #66086Apparently Jansen to be activated for tonight’s game.
August 20, 2018 at 7:01 pm #66090Why not rest Carpenter and put JMart at 1B and O`Neill in RF?
August 20, 2018 at 7:33 pm #66091Is OhNeill 100%? There is one player that I am particularly anxious to see tonight…..Patrick Wisdom. This fellow just might be a real MLB gamer! I predict that if he gets 2 hits in this game that he’ll never step foot in a minor league stadium ever again.
August 20, 2018 at 8:37 pm #66096Winning tonight is key to taking the series. I don’t recall our record against Ryu being very good.
August 20, 2018 at 9:01 pm #66097Molina a much needed day off. Carpenter hit a couple of balls hard yesterday so maybe he’s about ready to bust out of it.
We will have a Yasiel Puig in RF tonight and a Yasiel Pugs calling the PBP here on the forum.

August 20, 2018 at 9:06 pm #66098Final score 7-5 redbirds. Some runs off their pen in the 7th and 8th. Yep, that’s what I’ll go with.

ParticipantGreat play by Wong! That’s what makes him so valuable.
August 20, 2018 at 9:28 pm #66103I like your spunk, Euro! Hope you take home the grand prize! Hate to be Mr. Wimpy, but I have an important early morning meeting, so I’ll be counting sheep in 30 minutes, Rat. Hopefully our Birds will be counting runs aplenty tonight too! Go Birds!

Participant4 hours plus game. 5-3 good guys. Gyorko and Carpenter back to back save the day. Good work by bullpen. 2:23 am east coast time.
August 21, 2018 at 1:24 am #66116Gyorko and Carp hit solo HRs in the top of the 9th off Jansen for a 5-3 win.

stlcard25ParticipantNice win for the Cards. Obviously I didn’t stay up to watch it, but wins on the road against talented foes are big pluses. Now let’s win the series tonight!!
August 21, 2018 at 7:13 am #66122How often does a team allow nine walks and win?
August 21, 2018 at 11:47 am #66144For those that missed it Cecil came on with two outs in the 8th and retired Bellinger on a flyball to CF to keep the game tied 3-3. Dan and Al mentioned that being successful in high leverage situations might build his confidence.

August 21, 2018 at 12:08 pm #66145great win…didnt give up, didnt melt down…stayed in it and took what they could get
stayed up way too late to watch the end but it was worth it…even if i am feeling it today
Cecil really stepped up, and Shildt made the call…which i am sure he will be given kudos for though i can only imagine the hate MM woudl have gotten regardless if it worked or not
Keep it up Cecil
it’s been af ew week coming but i am little concerned about Hicks…i dont think he shoudl eb the 8th inning guy for sure any more…we haev too many option to just hand it to him…he has been giving up runs and inherited runners a bit too much for my liking for a8th inning no doubter guy
i think he’s gonna be great…but with the options in the pen right now im not sure he shoudl be written in pen for the 8th…
August 21, 2018 at 1:22 pm #66151NJ315
ParticipantWhat can you say haters gonna hate. MM is history and the team is better for that.
August 21, 2018 at 3:12 pm #66180That is not necessarily a 1+! = 2 scenario… we will never know what MM would have done with all the changes trades, and injuries that Shildt walked into
the team is better…no doubt…but with so many other factors happening at the same time we cant definitively say anything…which is unfortunate for those haters as it would have been so easy to have real proof
the team seems like it needed a change, it will remain to be seen which change or combination is the one that actually worked
August 21, 2018 at 3:24 pm #66182Probably a combination of all the changes have resulted in the turnaround but to think that MM would have rallied the team to a 21-10 mark the last 31 games seems doesn’t seem plausible to me.
