If I recall one of them was a little dribbler that Arenado couldn’t throw him out on. Solid hits are different from slow rollers. Maybe that explains it.

And in regards to O’Neill, is he really a true CF? Or just an outfielder that can play CF? I am sick and tired of not having players playing their one true position. We’ve got enough of that going on. We’ve got the following players playing their #1 true position.

    Wong – 2B
    Ozuna – LF
    Bader – CF

    And that’s it.

Rats-The damn Fowler crap is screwing this team badly.Fowler needs to be glued to the bench and Oneill needs to play every day.Contract be damned.Fowler is not the best option for this team. Why make all the moves getting younger and retooling the bullpen and then leave that underperforming bum in RF? As for ONeill`s hits ….he still got on base twice….Some on this board used to slobber all over the TB OF when he got on base. 2 for 3 in the box score still counts. As you know sometimes a hard hit ball is caught and a dribbler or bloop falls in.

My mistake. We have a catcher that is playing his true position too.

And its hard for me to understand why Shildt is keeping DeJong in the #3 slot. All he does anymore is strikeout or hit a flyball to RF.

Rockies threaten in the first. 1st and 3rd with two outs but Story fans to end the threat.

Time for a leadoff dong by Carpenter.

Weaver with the nibbly approach again. It costs hin in the 3rd. He’ll be lucky to make it through 4.

Weaver doesn’t last 3 innings. His ERA is 5.50 over his last 10 starts and he has averaged a little less than 5 1/3 innings per start during that span.

Hate seeing a young Cardinal pitcher regress. Earlier this year it looked as if Weaver was going to be a stud, but now the word “dud” unfortunately springs forth in conjunction with his name. But it’s way too early to give up on him. You just have to keep trotting him out there in hopes he begins to get somewhat of a handle on pitch efficiency. Same with Flaherty, Hudson and Poncedeleon…keep giving them the ball. And by all means give Carlos Martinez and Dexter Fowler the remainder of the season off. Carlos to get physically ready for ’19 and Fowler to send out to pasture……permanently! It truly is getting ridiculous giving Fowler all of this playing time. Ok, the team made a huge mistake by signing Fowler to that insane contract. But now they are doubling up on that debacle by taking playing time away from young players who deserve a chance. If our owner doesn’t recognize this as a grounds for dismissal for the person(s) responsible for this, then we Cardinal fans are going to be in for one heck of a long drought.

How can you continue to run Fowler out there? Play the youth

They play O’Neill at every outfield position and spell the regulars. Since we traded Pham that was the idea, right? The best overall outfield we can have is Ozuna in left, Bader in center, O’Neill in right. Bench Fowler as much as possible, and spell the other 2 spots with O’Neill.

Can we possibly score a few more tallies?

    We do and it’s 6-2

And why do you continue to run Fowler out there. Well because your wanting something on your return. They’ll play him 400 AB’s next year and hope for a Heyward bounce back. In all fairness he’s been a little better since July 10th. His issue is he can’t get on base because no one respects him. He can’t hit the fastball to save his life and he’s trying too hard to make something happen.

This game went pretty well after Ponce came in to put out the fire on the mound, and then knocked in the tying run. Mayers in to close it in the 9th with a 4-run lead.

Good win but you need to manage and play tomorrow as if this is a tie going into the 2nd wild card. I don’t see it but dare to dream.

Where were you Pugs. Very little but complaints and little coverage of a great game where most of our young guys shined.

Hey Sooner. Am battling a nasty summer cold that finally went into full swing yesterday. Up until about 2 years ago, when I got a cold, it came on quickly, lasted a few days and then it was gone. But now I get these kind of dizzy feelings about a week before it finally kicks in….which sucks! I heard once that there are approximately 200 cold viruses and once you get a particular strain, you cannot get it again. That’s why you don’t see a lot of old people with colds. I think I’ve knocked out about half of the 200, so hopefully my usual 2 colds a year will soon be cut in half. Go Birds!

This is the kind of game that felt like it would have gotten out of hand in the past and that the Cards would have lost 8-3. Good to get a W. I really like the young guys in the bullpen; they’re pitching quite well and there’s a lot of flexibility as lots of them can go multiple innings if needed.

I agree with booyah…today’s game means a lot and so will the weekend trip to Pittsburgh. They can make up some ground on two of their WC rivals, fast.

Gomber, Hudson, Mayers, Gant, Hicks….great pitching with more to come as well. Helsley is the next big relief option imo. It’s unfortunate that half of these guys have to start with Wacha, Martinez, Wainwright, and Reyes all on the DL.

I’m not familiar with all of the recent guys that have been traded for this year ~ Elledge, Ramirez, Cabrera, Gallegos, Greene, Meisner, or even Ellis.
