7:15 p.m. RHP Carlos Martínez (3-3, 2.50) vs. RHP Kyle Hendricks (4-6, 3.48) FOX Network/KMOX
June 16, 2018 at 12:26 pm #56620I have to say that I’m not very optimistic that we will win a game in this series. No, I’m not doing my Nate impersonation but things just don’t look good. As much as we complain about JMart being a misfit defensively the fact is that this offense really misses him. He is our best hitter and of all series he had to miss…oh well I know it was something he couldn’t control.
Getting him and DeJong back in our lineup will be a big boost. I just hope it isn’t too late . If we are 10 games out by July the front office may decide not to add at the deadline. I still believe we are two solid bullpen pieces away from being a contender.
June 16, 2018 at 1:10 pm #56625I beg to differ with you, GScott. Jose could indeed control his maternity leave issues. As we are all well aware of, these guys make some pretty decent coin. The least they can do is to refrain from having unprotected romantic daliances for an 8 month period. This gives them all a 4 month free-for-all period to live it up. A little pre-planning on Jose’s part and he’s playing in this all important series this weekend vs our arch rivals. I’ve always been amazed that teams did not have stiff ( no pun intended ) contractual financial penalties in place to safeguard their team from these sort of preventable absences. You watch….one day soon, there’s going to be a big star leaving his team high and dry ( once again no pun intended ) by sitting in some hospital waiting room for days on end playing computer games on his phone instead of being with his team during the world series….and all heck is going to break loose! But you know, maybe that’s what it’s going to take to bring light upon this all important topic.
June 16, 2018 at 1:27 pm #56627Just one more tidbit and then we’ll move on to the next topic. But almost all of the baseball greats adhered to the responsible practice of controlling their romantic urges for the betterment of their team. Almost to a man, these baseball greats had offspring born during the 4 month period between November 1st and March 1st.
June 16, 2018 at 1:43 pm #56632He could also move his wife’s C-section like Dexter Fowler did for this series…
June 16, 2018 at 2:32 pm #56640Dexter would be the exception to our “No Play No Way For 8 Months” Rule, Cardinals2016. With the way Dexter has performed….or better stated “not performed “, he should be encouraged to have as many offspring as possible….in season. So as to take as many maternity leaves as is humanly possible while the Cards are at play.
June 16, 2018 at 6:15 pm #56646Need a win. Let's get a win!

June 16, 2018 at 6:27 pm #56651Having served on several ships deployed overseas I have no tolerance for this type of absence. If poorly paid sailors can miss the birth of their children, so can overpaid ballplayers!
June 16, 2018 at 6:31 pm #56652Name one player in that starting lineup that you’d start above their Cub counterpart. I can’t name one.
June 16, 2018 at 6:48 pm #56654Wow! That bold statement is an eye-opener, TexasCard! But you are correct, sir. Yadi’s counterpart may prevail simply due to age……and I may even take Hendricks over Carlitos. I’m getting that sinking feeling that we may finish the campaign double digits off the pace. But they don’t play this game on paper so let’s get out there and get em tonight!
June 16, 2018 at 6:48 pm #56655And here here to Carioca’s post!!!
June 16, 2018 at 7:09 pm #56659Man, in the pregame no one even mentioned the cardinals for the central and discussed it as a two game race. Accurate but sad
June 16, 2018 at 7:12 pm #56660Other than Fowler, I guess we’re going with our defensive lineup tonight. Martinez better be very good.
June 16, 2018 at 7:22 pm #56665Martinez starts the game with a 5-pitch walk to Zobrist. Seemed like we were going to get more of the same, but then he settled down and got the next three in order.
June 16, 2018 at 7:31 pm #56668Ozuna is officially hot now. 2-run oppo shot put the Cards up 2-0 in the first.

Participanthaha Martinez did a great impersonation of a T-baller by initially running after the ball and not towards first.
June 16, 2018 at 7:47 pm #56670Euro…GACard….TexasCard & Carioca are in the house. I couldn’t think of 4 finer gentlemen to game thread with.
June 16, 2018 at 7:47 pm #56671Ditto for NJ315
June 16, 2018 at 7:48 pm #56672
stlcard25ParticipantI’m so glad Ozuna is out there, or we’d have a really horrid offense right now.
June 16, 2018 at 7:49 pm #56673Have to make Hendricks work harder than this in inning #2
June 16, 2018 at 7:51 pm #56674Carlos nearly goes yard, but it’ll go in the books as an 0-fer. Hey, anyone remember Elrod Hendricks of Baltimore back in the day? Wonder if this cubbies hurler is related in any fashion?
June 16, 2018 at 7:52 pm #56675I hear you, stlcard25…..and we were all ready to run Ozuna out of town just a few weeks ago.
June 16, 2018 at 7:53 pm #56676NJ315
ParticipantOzuna is carrying the offense right now. If he doesn’t get help soon teams will start pitching around him.
June 16, 2018 at 7:55 pm #56677
stlcard25ParticipantYeah, he has turned it around bigtime. We need a couple more guys to hi to potential and there really might be something going.
June 16, 2018 at 8:08 pm #56678NJ315
ParticipantMartinez with 62 pitches
