This is an important game in my mind. The Pirates trail 4-0 in the 8th at home against San Diego and the Cubs lost game one to the Reds 5-4 in 11 innings but they lead the 2nd game 7-0. Milwaukee is tied 4-4 in the 6th at Minnesota.

I can’t remember the Cards being able to put a lineup like this on the field in mid-May. It could be called “the break out of a slump” lineup.

    c- Baron .200
    1b- Carpenter .177
    2b- Wong .183
    ss- Munoz .105
    3b- GGarcia .231
    lf- Ozuna .234
    cf- O’Neill .182
    rf- Fowler .156

I see 5 of these 8 are starting today.

And on the other side of the coin, what’s likelihood today’s infield costs us more runs today? Seems like this team has been trapped in this maze for a couple years now.

Alex Reyes looked great last night. See the link in the Reyes thread.

Garcia is a good shortstop so we will be fine as long as our co-ed softball player of a 1Bman doesn’t have to dig any balls out of the dirt.

I might lose my mind if Holland pitches today if it’s a close one. I can’t believe how awful he’s been.

I would have put JMart in RF, Carp at 1B , and Gyroko at 3B. Not that JMart is any good in RF either but having Carp anywhere but 1B makes my arm hurt.

I do like O’Neill in LF. I called that one yesterday.

No Ozuna! That had to come down from Bowtie. Bout damn time!

Gyorko on punishment. Matheny really knows how to kick em while their down.

Why couldn’t plop treebeard in LF today and play Carp at 1st?

Constructing a lineup out of this current roster right now must be a giant headache. We have too many platoon level players.

Carp- Can only play 1B and bat has been weak but has built up a lot of good will with MM.
Fowler- Can’t field or hit but has a big contract so MM feels pressure to play him.
JMart- Can’t field at all anywhere but brings a good bat to the lineup. Should be a DH.
Wong- Can’t hit much but is a very good 2B.
Gyroko- Pretty good at 3B and can crush LH pitchers. Gets exposed against too many RH pitchers.
DeJong- Obviously hurt now but when available plays adequate SS and has power potential if he can develop plate discipline.
Munoz/Garcia- Adequate defense and any offense you get out of them is a bonus.
    Pena-See above.
Yadi- Second best position player on the team when healthy.
Ozuna- Fair on defense and really pressing on offense. Plate discipline is atrocious right now.
PHam-MVP candidate if he can stay healthy. Reminds me of Bobby Bonds in his prime.
Bader- Best defensive OF we have and hits well against LH’s but can’t hit righties hardly at all.
O’Neill- Could be Grichuk 2.0 but let’s give him an opportunity to prove that wrong.

And I didn’t even get into the bullpen. Basically we have Norris, Hicks, and a bunch of question marks. Bottom line is this roster has too many misfits. Solid starting pitching is our only hope to stay in contention.

Battling Jack 9 up 9 down. Got his pitch count a little under control in the 3rd.

    Will we score?

Flaherty with a single! Let’s see if we can help him put some runs on the board…

Nola has faced 12 batters and 10 of those were first pitch strikes. Just sayin’.

The kid needs to keep playing until proven otherwise.

My other observation from this series is the Phillies defense is as bad as ours.

Also, who is going to close this game out? Can Flaherty go 9 innings?
