    My hoped for lineup tonight:

    CF Pham
    3B Gyorko
    1B Martinez
    LF Ozuna
    SS Dejong
    RF Bader
    2B Wong
    C Kelly

Expect we’ll still see Marp and Fowler in the lineup, maybe with Wong sitting out. This will be very dumb but there will be some random justification they’ll have for it.

Is there any way Carpenter could be sent down to Memphis for a week or two to try and get his hitting straightened out? Same with Fowler?

    We need some lineup adjustments.

Against righties I would go with:

    CF Pham
    2B Wong
    SS DeJong
    1B JMart
    LF Ozuna
    RF Fowler
    3B Carp
    C Kelly
    P

Against lefties I would go with:

    CF Pham
    SS DeJong
    3B Gyroko
    1B JMart
    LF Ozuna
    RF Bader
    2B Wong
    C Kelly
    P

Obviously this would change once Yadi gets back.

If it weren’t for Pham, Mikolas, and Norris this team would be in Reds territory.

Martinez? Molina? DeJong? Are they not contributing?

I agree that Carpenter should sit against LH pitchers. Bader and Martinez should absolutely be in there every game when a LH is going.

This is a big game for Weaver. He really needs to find his groove after the last couple of outings.

Gant and Flaherty (and Gomber and Reyes) will be putting a lot of pressure on him if he doesn’t get it together.

Man, we are fortunate to have “Pham the Man as Usual” in the lineup. Without him last night, we could very well have been shutout.

With Weaver going tonight, two runs won’t get it done. And as has been discussed for awhile now, the evidence is getting overwhelming on Carpenter. You would think he has burned his goodwill and Gyorko would be in there.

Plus you are playing the Padres, Jedd’s old team. It’s getting ridiculous. Fowler is in the same situation, although his backup is not quite as proven as the option for Carpenter. But Bader is one of those “toolsy” guys (speed, defense, some pop in the bat), the kind I would go with if your de facto starter is not gettin’ ‘er done.

Fowler looks something like a slightly below average hitter against RHP this year…92 wRC+. Marp is in a slump any way you put it, with a 78 wRC+ against RHP. Against lefties, Marp is at 30 wRC+ and Fowler…well, let’s not even go there.

I don’t think you have to jettison them to spot duty yet, simply due to their career history (I’d bet on both being above average by seasons end) but the long side of a hard platoon where they *only* face RHP for a while, and probably hit in the #6-7 hole is a good plan IMO.

Weaver has not had a good outing since big head Dan and McCarver bragged on him three weeks ago.

Memphis? I think they’d stand a much better chance of getting a hit in Peoria, Rat.

Sweet! Past 2 days i have been unable to post. After hitting the “submit” button, my posts have been getting highlighted in a soft pink hue with words something like “sorry we are presently unable to receive your post”…. those were not the exact words, but something like that. Anybody else experiencing the same thing? If I didn’t know Brian better I’d think he was intentionally toying with me, as the same thing occurred a couple weeks ago.

    Martinez last 14 games, 63 PA, .207/.254/.328

I think hes showing his true self now and the league has him. Should have traded him while they could.

Martinez will be fine. He’s had bad stretches before and he’ll get back on track.

Good lineup tonight. I like the smart play with Bader and Gyorko.

pugs perhaps the site picked up on the fact you lied about your age and thought you were an unauthorized user : )))

I was on the road for most of the day and bernie miklasz spent a good majority of his show talking about how MM was doing this team a huge injustice by not starting gyorko…i remember a similar show last year with a pham grichuck comparison…

I really hope carp isnt at the end of his rope..but there is really no excuse to put him in the lineup at this point

Weaver allows singles to the first two batters. Bad sign.

Two Ks and a pop out later and he’s out of the jam. 0-0 after 1.

Gyorko hits the third solo shot of the 3rd inning. 6-0!

All of a sudden, the Cards can hit lefties! At least for a game.
