Any word on the lineup.
One would think this would be a good day to get Martinez a day off and have at Carp at 1st. Could even play Garcia but that would leave no lefthanded bat on the bench. So I would play Gyorko.
Matheny can be very stubborn with his lineup. Carp seems to be in a Allen Craig like death spiral but MM won’t budge and play Jedd at 3B on a regular basis. If I recall Mo had to intervene in the Craig situation.
Gonna be a long day if Weaver’s gonna try and nibble against Chatwood. That, plus he can’t miss a bat to save his life.
Cards now battling back, taking advantage of walks and cubs’ error. 4-2 in the 4th with a chance to add more, runners 1st and 3rd, 1 out, and Carp batting.
Some snazzy defense (NOT) by Schwarber in LF on Carp’s fly leads to two more redbird runs, now tied 4-4. Carp on 2nd for a double (or error, not sure which).
Chatwood with a BB to start the 5th and gets yanked. Need to make him pay again for the free pass. Both starters will want to forget this one, although Weaver had very little luck fall his way.
Weaver is not ready for prime time and should be shipped out to Memphis. What is this now, three lousy starts in a row.
Darnit, Sherriff gives up the lead to Baez on a HR on an 0-2 pitch — not a bad pitch though. A bullpen game against the cubs might not be our best bet, although better than the blowout it was looking to be.
Holland with a scoreless 8th, but now without a struggle. He stranded two. Cards have two more cracks at the cubs’ pen, down 6-4.
