Nice starts by Helsley and Walsh. If Helsley keeps pitching like this, he and Walsh may see a promotion in their future. I’d venture a guess Helsley is pitcher of the day, but it’s close.

Helsley’s GS = 71….. Walsh’s GS = 71. I’d give it to Walsh because this is his third superb start.(out of 4)
I think it goes to Helsley because he is pitching to higher level competition. Now I’ll have to check and see who got it. It sure is great to have a prospect like Walsh, which prior to the season wasn’t very high on my radar.
Nogowski and Knizner keep on hitting. Knizner seriously could take over as top catching prospect if his defense is even average
with Lyons seemingly figuring things out and Cecil out and Sherriff borderline and hurting… anyone thinking Helsley may jump a level straight to the bullpen? Gomber might be in this discussion as well
Re POD – you got it, C27. I typically give the Player of the Day nod to the combination of best performance/highest level.

Jager, don’t forget that Tuivailala is starting his rehab and in a month, they are going to have to clear spots on the 40-man and 25-man for Reyes. There are too many arms ahead of Helsley and he is not yet on the 40-man roster. For that reason and his higher level, Gomber should get a chance before Helsley. A Memphis promotion would be a nice next step for Ryan, IMO. He could still make his MLB debut later in the season, but it seems early now until the other pitchers shake out.
Wow, where did Nogowski come from? I don’t remember much said about him during the spring but he is tearing it up at Springfield.
Big Helsley fan but I dont see him in the immediate mix. Heck, Greene has just as good an arm and has been better so far this year. We have Myers who has pitched well at the MLB and MiLB levels wasting away at Memphis. Gant and Poncedeleon are there also. If Helsley can get his act back together he could get into the mix but for now, I dont see it.

i guess with the hype Helsley got before ST the idea of him contributing sooner rather than later is on my mind… it wasnt too long ago that everyone said Hicks wasnt an option for almost all the same reasons Brian mentioned
i personally dont think it is time to push him up here…i am just thinking the considerations for him jumping the line so to speak is already in the minds of those in management as they definitely played up Helsley and Hicks all offseason
