If Cecil isn’t ready soon, and Lyons still scuffling, maybe we need to take a look at Gomber. I hope he is more than a LOOGY, but you have to get to the bigs somehow.

That should go down as bast performance by one of our pitchers this year, CMart has the stuff to equal or better it, but the bar is set high.
Considering he’s already on the 40-man and with his wipeout breaking ball, he wouldn’t be a bad option out of the ‘pen. Definitely would give the rotation a different look from the left-side, too.
Yeah I would still like to give Gomber some time to stay as a starter. We have the depth in the bullpen for now.
That draft (2014) may end up as one of our best if Weaver, Flaherty, and Gomber all end up in the rotation at some point. The draft also included Poncedeleon and Ronnie Williams.
Then the 2015 draft included Bader, Hicks, and DeJong in the middle rounds. There’s still time for Plummer, Denton, and Woodford from the top to make their mark.
Plummer has to be having one of the oddest stat lines ever with a .200 BA and a .300 SLG, but a 130 wRC+ coming from his 23.9% BB-rate.

I’m thinking that 92 is a realistic number for Gomber’s performance. Ks are important, IP are important.
In that regard, it may turn out to be the best pitched game in the organization for ’18.He was in big trouble right off the bat in the first. A HBP and two singles had bases loaded and 0 outs.
He struck out the next hitter and then got a 1-2-3 DP. When things could have gotten ugly, he was able to bear down and get out of the jam.Caution: although Gomber has been good in ’18 this one game doesn’t put him ahead of Reyes, Flaherty, Hudson or Hicks. He’s still the third best pitcher for Memphis, but it was an extraordinarily pitched game.
Gomber really had to work to get out of the eighth after two leadoff singles. He got the job done with two Ks and a harmless fly ball, but he had to be gassed at that point. I will be most interested in how he bounces back in his next start. He is big and strong, but I wonder if he has ever thrown 112 pitches in a game.
