Guilmet seems to be getting a lot of work…good for him

Loved seeing Motte get all worked up in his last outing…first ST game and he was barking like it was the WS…he may have lost somethign since we last had him but he didnt lose that fire

    BRian…quick question

I know Carp has been slow to start for his back…but why is Gyorko not been playing?

    Did I miss an injury?

I’d like to see Rangel as a doable option in LF. The guy can hit.

Nice catch by Grich on the action from yesterday on MLBtv.

Regarding Gyorko, this is from the “Injury Report” section in our “MLB Notebook” posted for free on the front page each Monday morning. There is also injury info on several other players there.

IF Jedd Gyorko is dealing with some minor wrist irritation. It is expected that Gyorko will remain out of Grapefruit League games for a couple of days, but may get into Wednesday’s game against the Orioles in Sarasota.

The Orioles’ first batter reached in all three innings against Flaherty, but he worked around it until the third. Bases loaded and no outs and some guy named Manny Machado launched a grand slam. O’s are up 4-0 in B3rd. Brebbia in with bases cleared and no out.

Hit and steal for Bader. Another RBI for Munoz. Good work by Brebbia and Motte. Cards down 4-1 heading into B5th.

Very, very rough outing for Poncedeleon. Four more runs in on two homers. Gant relieves with no out, still in the fifth.

Gant joins the gopherball derby, serving up a solo shot in the 6th. O’s up 9-1.

Munoz doesn’t have a good-looking body, but continues to impress early with a solo HR to LF. .462 BA so far. Cards down 9-2 in the 7th.

Munoz just may hit himself onto the opening day roster.

    They tied it. Munoz!

An eight-run 7th inning as the Cards pecked their way back. Munoz tied the game with his 2nd HR of the inning, a two-run shot hit very deep to left. Munoz has 4 RBI on the day. 9-9 with Cards still batting.

As hot as he has been, Munoz would have to call Jeff Gillooly to make a visit to Greg Garcia to have a reasonable shot to make the team. 😉

    Credit to Craig Edwards:

    Breakdown of Munoz’s 2017 positions.

    3B: 36
    CF: 20
    RF: 5
    LF: 3
    2B: 2

We had a long discussion about this on several other threads. The A’s have two top 100 nationally ranked shortstops, one at AAA and one at AA, that pushed Munoz into a utility role last year.

Its interesting looking at the breakdown. Munoz could supplant Garcia as the UT. Munoz is more of a Super UT whereas Garcia is limited to only the IF.

Only if you believe they would displace a 2+ year MLB veteran for a spring training phenom.

It might be unlikely but you act like Munoz is a scrub who just got lucky in spring training and completely ignored his minor league states.

If you have read what I have written about Munoz, you would not say that. I have also been around enough to know that veterans are not easily bumped off an MLB roster by a prospect with a hot first week of spring training.

P.S. I have already said multiple times that I expect this will be Garcia’s last year with St. Louis. He hits arbitration after this season and will get too expensive considering there look to be several replacement candidates, so he will be non-tendered. That is my prediction.

I don’t have a lot of first-hand input on Munoz’ defense, but if he could pick it like Alex Mejia, he might be good enough to start! 😉
