this spot usually goes to the next guy up if my memory serves…well deserved Flaherty…Reyes would have been fun but with his recovery it’s best not to push anythign with him

Two years ago, they gave it to Gomber because they were playing his alma mater. Lyons started the second game. Last spring, Weaver and Mayers started the first two games.

i forgot about that Gomber start! still fun honor for whomever gets it. I remember i was at the one Hawksworth got a while back.

btw…where is Hawksworth it was so unfortunate to see him get hurt with the Dodgers after showing pretty well with them…always liked that guy

    According to Wikipedia:

After his baseball career ended due to injury, he became an assistant basketball coach at Eastlake High School.

Props to Mags Sierra. I wish him well and hope he has a nice career. He is a good player.

Do the Fish plan to use Alcantara at the MLB level this year or at AAA?

No game chatter? Flaherty was perfect, Gant had some good work, but gave up some hits, too. Saved by a nice running catch by Mercado. 3Ks for Bader in 3 ABs. Cards up 3-0 mid-5th.

Mercado has two hits and a walk. Scott Van Slyke took Conner Greene way deep on a ball that bounced off the roof of a building a distance beyond the LF wall. Cards up 3-1 through 6.

Thanks for the recaps, Brian. I am unable to watch today’s game due to prior commitments and that pesky thing I have to do to pay my bills called work.

Jordan Schafer’s transition to the mound did not go well at all today. VanSlyke’s grand slam puts the Fish up, 6-4. Pulled for Ryan Sherriff with one out in B7th.

    Glad you are following, BHC.

feel bad fo Schafer a bit…i feel like his potential role would potentially never be a full inning assignment like he got today…maybe it’s just work and it doesnt matter….but ouch…cant feel good even if the team doesnt really care

Welp, so much for my dark horse, Rangel Ravelo.

Ravelo grounded into a bases-loaded double play to end the 6-4 loss. Hicks looked good in his inning of work. Cards open the spring 0-1.

outside of Greene going to his breaking ball one too many times in a row he looked good too…Van Slyke just wasnt goign to fall for that curve again so he belted it

then Schafer…well he just didnt have anything

outside of that…pretty good looking game

everyone but Schafer looked good…which is a good sign

    impressed with Mercado’s speed

How did Sierra look for those guys.

Others should comment as Sierra did not stand out for me. Then again, he was out of the game pretty fast, replaced by Van Slyke, who hit the two home runs.

Hopefully, Ravelo will get a few more ABs before he is sent out. 😉

Greene looked good in that he is big and tall and strong and throws hard. But for a pitcher who’s been around as long as he has, he sure has major control issues.

Mercado looks like a major league centerfielder, IMO.

First impression of Munoz is that he will not be an everyday player in the major leagues. Hopefully, that will change.
