Cardinals Minor League Notebook – September 20, 2026

The St. Louis Cardinals minor league system was 1-0 on Saturday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Memphis’s Jimmy Crooks, was 3-for-4 with three RBI.  Other standouts: Trey Paige, Chase Davis, Brody Moore and Jared Shuster.

Memphis Redbirds 9 at Nashville Sounds 3

The Triple-A Memphis Redbirds bested the Sounds in Nashville on Saturday, scoring at least eight runs for the fourth consecutive game.

Josh Fleming started for Memphis. The left-hander pitched 4 ⅔ innings and allowed three runs on five hits, no walks and one strikeout.

Jared Shuster struck out three across 2 ⅓ scoreless, no-hit innings in relief of Fleming for his sixth win of the year. Matt Svanson fanned two in the eighth inning. Hancel Rincon finished the game with a pair of strikeouts in the shutout ninth inning.

The Sounds pounced early with a two-run bottom of the first.

Memphis trimmed the lead in half in the top of the second inning. Zach Levenson reached on a fielding error and moved to second on a groundout. Trey Paige lined a single to bring Levenson home.

Memphis tied the game at 2-2 in the fifth. Graysen Tarlow and Colton Ledbetter drew back-to-back walks. Brody Moore grounded into a forceout, with Ledbetter erased. Tarlow scored on a sacrifice fly from Jimmy Crooks.

The Sounds regained the lead at 3-2 with a run in the home fifth.

Memphis immediately knotted the game at three with a run in the sixth. Chase Davis led off the frame with his sixth Triple-A home run.

Memphis took the lead with a pair of runs in the seventh. Moore and Crooks began the inning with back-to-back singles. Bligh Madris followed with a double to score Moore. Levenson hit a second consecutive double to bring Cooks home.

Memphis added three runs in the eighth inning. Tarlow was hit by a pitch and Ledbetter walked. Moore connected for a double to plate Tarlow. Crooks singled home Ledbetter and Moore to extend the lead to 8-3.

Memphis tacked on an insurance run in the ninth. Paige launched his second Triple-A home run, a solo shot, to stretch the score to 9-3.

Trey Paige

The Redbirds scored nine runs on 11 hits; five hits came with runners in scoring position. Crooks was 3-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI. Paige went 2-for-4, including a walk, a home run, and two RBI. Davis hit a home run. Moore went 2-for-6, including a double, two runs scored, and an RBI. Levenson doubled, scored a run, and drove in a run. Madris walked twice, doubled, and tallied an RBI.

On the bases, Ledbetter swiped his 26th bag of the season. Paige stole his first base with the Redbirds.

On defense, third baseman Paige committed a fielding error. Center field Davis threw a runner out at home plate.

Memphis is 36-38 in the second half and 83-66 overall. The Redbirds will look to conclude the regular season with a win on Sunday.

Sunday’s game: at Nashville. LHP Pete Hansen (4-5, 4.57) vs. RHP Coleman Crow (8-2, 3.70) 5:05 PM CT.

Springfield Cardinals (off day)

The Double-A Springfield Cardinals were off Saturday, as they prepared for the first game of the Texas League Championship Series, beginning Sunday.

After sweeping Tulsa in the best-of-three Texas League North Division Series, the Cardinals will face the Amarillo Sod Poodles in the best-of-three championship round. Game one will take place at Hodgetown in Amarillo, Texas, with games two and three (if necessary) at Route 66 Stadium.

Sunday’s game: at Amarillo (AZ). Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM CT.
