Cardinals Minor League Notebook – September 6th, 2026

The St. Louis Cardinals minor league system was a perfect 4-0 on Saturday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Memphis SP Jurrangelo Cijntje, pitched six scoreless innings with five strikeouts for his first Triple-A win. Other standouts: Chase Davis, Jack Gurevitch, Jack Martinez, Jayden Lobliner, and Gabe Camacho.

Memphis Redbirds 3, Durham Bulls 1

The Triple-A Memphis Redbirds clinched the series win over the Durham Bulls at AutoZone Park on Saturday.

Jurrangelo Cijntje made his ninth start for Memphis. The switch-pitcher threw exclusively right-handed and fired six shutout innings on four hits, one walk, and five strikeouts. Cijntje earned his first Triple-A win.

Bobby Olsen pitched two scoreless innings with a strikeout in his Triple-A debut in relief of Cijntje. Matt Svanson tossed a shutout ninth frame for his second save of the year with Memphis.

Memphis struck first with a run in the bottom of the third inning. Trey Paige doubled and moved to third base on a Colton Ledbetter single. Brody Moore brought Paige home on a sacrifice fly to put the Redbirds in front 1-0.

The Redbirds doubled the lead in the fourth. Ramon Mendoza hit a double and came home on a Chase Davis single for a 2-0 lead.

Memphis added a run in the home fifth. Dakota Harris legged out an infield single. Paige hit a single to move Harris to third base. Ledbetter brought Davis home via a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 3-0.

The Redbirds scored three runs on nine hits. Davis was 2-for-3, including a walk, a double, and an RBI. Paige was a perfect 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Mendoza doubled and scored a run. Ledbetter singled and collected an RBI. Moore notched an RBI.

On the bases, Bligh Madris was caught stealing second base. Ledbetter was picked off first base.

On defense, shortstop Moore committed both a fielding and a throwing error. Pitcher Cijntje picked a runner off first base.

Memphis is 28-34 in the second half and 75-62. They will look to take five of six from Durham with a win on Sunday.

Springfield Cardinals 6 at Corpus Christi Hooks 5

The Double-A Springfield Cardinals edged the Hooks in Corpus Christi on Saturday night to secure the series win.

Blake Aita started for Springfield. The right-hander threw five innings and allowed five runs on seven hits, three walks, and five strikeouts.

Domenic Picone pitched two scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts in relief of Aita and collected his third win. Joseph King fanned two in a shutout eighth frame. Christian Worley struck out two in a scoreless ninth for his first Double-A save.

The Cardinals pounced early with a two-run top of the first inning. Tre Richardson III hit a lead-off single and moved to second base with two outs on a wild pitch. Jack Gurevitch launched a two-run home run, his fifth with Springfield, to put the Cardinals in front 2-0.

Springfield added a second pair of runs in the third frame. Luis Pino walked and Richardson III singled to begin the frame. Richardson III and Pino advanced to second base and third base, respectively, on a passed ball. Rainiel Rodriguez hit an infield single to score Pino, with Richardson III also home and Rodriguez to second base on the play via a throwing error for a 4-0 Springfield lead.

The Hooks plated a run in the bottom of the fourth inning for a 4-1 contest. Springfield immediately took the run back in the top of the fifth.

Richardson III walked and stole second base. Jesús Báez lined a two-out single to bring Richardson III home for a 5-1 Springfield lead.

Corpus Christi scored four runs in the home fifth to knot the game 5-5. The Cardinals regained the lead with a run in the eighth.

Gurevitch drew a lead-off walk and moved to third base on two consecutive wild pitches. With two outs, Gurevitch scored on the third wild pitch of the inning to put the Cardinals on top 6-5.

Springfield’s bullpen allowed just two hits over four scoreless innings in the win.

The Cardinals scored six runs on five hits. Gurevitch walked, scored twice, and hit a home run for two RBI. Báez singled and drove in a run. Rodriguez walked, singled, and tallied an RBI. Richardson III singled twice and scored three runs. Pino drew two walks.

On the bases, Richardson III swiped his 22nd bag at Double-A.

On defense, Rodriguez was charged an error on catcher’s interference and picked a runner off third base. Pitcher Aita picked a runner off second base.

Springfield is 42-20 in the second half and 73-57 overall. The Cardinals will look to go 5-1 in the series with a win on Sunday.

Peoria Chiefs 5, Quad Cities River Bandits 3

The High-A Peoria Chiefs bested the Quad Cities River Bandits at Dozer Park on Saturday.

Jack Martinez made his seventh start in his eighth game with Peoria. The right-hander pitched five innings and allowed two runs on four hits, one walk, and eight strikeouts. Martinez earned his second win with the Chiefs in his final start of the season.

Nelfy Ynfante fanned three and yielded a run across two innings in relief of Martinez. Trey Pooser followed with a shutout eighth frame. Patrick Galle tossed a scoreless ninth for his fifth save.

The Chiefs broke the scoreless tie with a two-run bottom of the third inning. José Suárez drew a lead-off walk. Suárez stole second base and moved to third base on the play via a throwing error. Andrew Williamson hit a two-out single to bring Suárez home and put the Chiefs in front 1-0.

Caden Ferraro followed with his first career triple to score Williamson for a 2-0 lead.

The River Bandits answered with two runs in the top of the fourth to tie the game at two. The Chiefs immediately retook the lead with a pair of runs in the home half of the frame.

Tristan Bissetta singled and scored on a double from Anyelo Encarnación to put the Chiefs ahead 3-2. Suárez doubled home Encarnación to extend the lead to 4-2.

Peoria added a run in the fifth. Williamson walked and swiped second base. Brayden Smith singled to move Williamson to third base. Bissetta brought Williamson home on a sacrifice fly for a 5-2 Chiefs lead.

Peoria pitchers combined for 13 strikeouts in the win.

The Chiefs scored five runs on nine hits. Suárez was 2-for-3 with a walk, a run scored, a double, and an RBI. Encarnación doubled, scored a run, and drove in a run. Ferraro tripled and notched an RBI. Bissetta singled, scored a run, and collected an RBI. Williamson drew three walks, singled, scored twice, and tallied an RBI. Smith was 2-for-4 with a triple. 

On the bases, Suárez swiped his 26th bag. Williamson stole his third base of the year and was caught stealing second base.

On defense, second baseman Smith committed a fielding error. Catcher Alex Birge was charged with both a throwing error and a catcher’s interference error. Center fielder Williamson made a spectacular diving catch in the ninth inning.

Peoria is 31-33 in the second half and 63-67 overall. The Chiefs will look to conclude their season with a win on Sunday.

Palm Beach Cardinals 8, Daytona Tortugas 7

The Low-A Palm Beach Cardinals won a tight contest over the Daytona Tortugas at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium on Saturday.

Ethan Young made his 10th career start for the Cardinals. The right-hander tossed 2 ⅓ innings and allowed one run on four hits, no walks, and one strikeout.

Jaden Alba pitched 2 ⅔ innings and allowed three runs in relief of Young but was awarded his first career win. Jesús García struck out four over two scoreless frames. Justin Militello yielded a run in the eighth inning. Kaden Echeman gave up two runs in the ninth but held on to pick up his first career save.

Palm Beach opened the scoring with a three-run bottom of the second inning. Matthew Miura and Gabe Camacho hit back-to-back singles to put runners at the corners. Jayden Lobliner crushed his third home run of the year, a three-run blast, to put the Cardinals in front 3-0.

Daytona scored a run in the top of the third to narrow the score to 3-1. Palm Beach added three runs in the home half of the frame.

Ryan Mitchell singled, Dee Kennedy reached on a fielding error, and Owen Henne was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. Miura drew a bases-loaded walk to force Mitchell home for a 4-1 Palm Beach lead. Camacho scorched a double to plate Kennedy and Henne and stretch the lead to 6-1.

The Tortugas scored three runs in the fourth to move within two runs at 6-4. Palm Beach added an insurance run in the home fourth.

Alexander Frias hit a single and ended up at third base on the play via a fielding error. Frias crossed home plate on a wild pitch for a 7-4 Cardinals lead.

Daytona moved back within two with a run in the top of the eighth. The Cardinals took the run back in the home half of the frame.

Lobliner blasted his second home run of the game, a solo shot, for an 8-5 Cardinals lead.

Palm Beach held off a late Daytona rally in the win.

The Cardinals scored eight runs on nine hits. Lobliner was 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI. Camacho went 2-for-4, including a double, a run scored, and two RBI. Miura walked, singled, scored a run, and drove in a run. Mitchell walked twice, singled, and scored a run, Sebastian Dos Santos hit a double.

On the bases, Kenly Hunter was caught stealing second base and picked off first base. Henne was picked off first base.

The Cardinals did not commit an error.

Palm Beach is 33-32 in the second half and 66-65 overall. The Cardinals will look to conclude their season with a win on Sunday.

Sunday’s game: vs. Daytona. Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 11:30 AM CT.
