Cardinals Minor League Notebook – August 14, 2026

The St. Louis Cardinals minor league system was 3-2 on Thursday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Memphis SP Jurrangelo Cijntje, pitched 6 ⅓ innings of one-run ball with a career-high 11 strikeouts. Other standouts: Joshua Báez, Liam Doyle, Tai Peete, Cade Crossland, Michael Dattalo, Nathan Shinn, Ryan Mitchell, Domingo Mejía and Jhon Franganten.

Memphis Redbirds 2 at Durham Bulls 3 (10 innings)

The Triple-A Memphis Redbirds lost a close extra-inning contest to the Bulls in Durham on Thursday.

Jurrangelo Cijntje made his fifth start for Memphis. The switch-pitcher threw exclusively right-handed and pitched 6 ⅓ innings of one-run baseball on two hits, one walk, and a career-high 11 strikeouts.

Ryan Murphy recorded the final two outs of the seventh inning in relief of Cijntje. Cade Winquest struck out the side in a scoreless eighth. Hancel Rincon tossed a scoreless ninth. Austin Love yielded two runs, one earned, and failed to record an out in the 10th inning to take the loss.

Memphis broke the scoreless tie with a run in the top of the fifth inning. Joshua Báez blasted his 34th home run of the season, a solo shot, to put the Redbirds in front 1-0.

Durham tied the game at one in the seventh. The game remained locked at one apiece to force extra innings. The Redbirds plated a run in the 10th to regain the lead.

Victor Scott II pinch-ran for Nolan Gorman at second base to begin the inning. Báez singled home Scott II to give the Redbirds a 2-1 lead.

The Bulls scored twice in the 10th to walk off the 3-2 win.

The Redbirds scored two runs on four hits. Báez was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Gorman and Colton Ledbetter singled. Noah Mendlinger drew the team’s only walk. The lineup struck out 14 times.

The Redbirds did not steal a base nor commit an error on defense.

Memphis is 18-24 in the second half and 65-52 overall.

Friday’s game: at Durham. LHP Mason Molina (3-4, 4.33) vs. RHP Logan Workman (1-6, 6.66) 5:45 PM CT.

Springfield Cardinals 10, Northwest Arkansas Naturals 3

The Double-A Springfield Cardinals won in dominant fashion over the Northwest Arkansas Naturals at Route 66 Stadium on Thursday.

Liam Doyle made his 19th start for Springfield. The left-hander pitched a career-best six innings and allowed one run on two hits, four walks and six strikeouts. Doyle earned his third win.

José Davila threw a shutout seventh frame in relief of Doyle. In his Double-A debut, Joseph King yielded two runs in the eighth. Andrew Schultz tossed a scoreless ninth to finish the game.

The Cardinals opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Rainiel Rodriguez and Jesús Báez began with back-to-back singles. Won-Bin Cho grounded into a forceout, with Rodriguez out at third base. Deniel Ortiz roped a double to score Báez and Cho and put the Cardinals ahead 2-0.

Springfield extended the lead with three runs in the fifth. Chase Heath reached on a fielding error and Dakota Harris walked. Tai Peete grounded into a forceout, with Harris out at second base. Rodriguez scorched a double to plate Heath for a 3-0 lead, with Peete to third base.

Báez scorched a single to bring Peete home for the fourth Cardinals run, with Rodriguez to third base.

Cho singled for the third consecutive hit to bring Rodriguez home for a 5-0 Springfield lead.

The Naturals dented the score to 5-1 in the top of the sixth.

Springfield added two runs in the home half of the frame. Tre Richardson III began the frame with a home run, his seventh with Springfield. Harris launched a solo shot, his 10th home run of the year, for a 7-1 score.

The Naturals scored twice in the eighth to narrow the score to 7-3.

The Cardinals tallied three insurance runs in the home eighth. Richardson III began the inning with a walk. Heath lined a single and the runners advanced on an error. Peete crushed his first Double-A home run, a three-run long ball, to put Springfield in double digits at 10-3.

The Cardinals collected five hits in scoring position while holding the Naturals to three hits in the game.

The Cardinals scored 10 runs on 10 hits. Peete scored twice and hit a home run for three RBI. Ortiz doubled and notched two RBI. Rodriguez was 2-for-3, including two walks, a double, a run scored, and an RBI. Báez went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, a run scored, and an RBI. Harris walked and hit a home run. Richardson III walked, scored twice, and hit a home run.

The Cardinals did not steal a base or commit an error.

Springfield is 26-16 in the second half and 57-53 overall.

Peoria Chiefs 5, Beloit Sky Carp 3

The High-A Peoria Chiefs edged the Beloit Sky Carp at Dozer Park on Thursday.

Cade Crossland made his second start for the Chiefs. The left-hander pitched 5 ⅓ innings and allowed one run on three hits, four walks, and five strikeouts. Crossland earned his first win with Peoria and lowered his High-A ERA to 1.93.

Trey Pooser yielded a run and secured the last two outs of the sixth in relief of Crossland. Dylan Driessen gave up a run and fanned three across two innings. Bobby Olsen tossed a scoreless ninth with two strikeouts for his fifth career save.

The Chiefs struck first with a run in the bottom of the third inning. Ryan Weingartner walked and stole second. Jalin Flores doubled him home.

Peoria extended the lead with a four-run sixth. Ian Petrutz led off with a double and moved to third on a Flores single. Sammy Hernandez grounded a single to bring Petrutz home. Yordalin Peña legged out an infield single to the pitcher, with a throwing error allowing Peña to move to second base and Flores home. Michael Dattalo brought Hernandez home with a single. José Suárez hit a third consecutive single to score Peña and widen the lead to 5-0.

Beloit rallied for two runs in the sixth and one run in the eighth, but Peoria’s pitching staff held in the win.

The Chiefs scored five runs on 12 hits. Dattalo was 3-for-4 with an RBI. Flores was 2-for-5 with a double, a run scored, and an RBI. Hernandez singled, scored, and notched an RBI. Peña went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Suárez singled and drove in a run. Weingartner singled, walked twice, and scored.

Weingartner stole his first two bags with Peoria. Peña was picked off first base.

On defense, Petrutz nailed a runner at third base from right field.

The Chiefs also turned an impressive double play in the first inning.

Peoria is 23-21 in the second half and 55-55 overall.

Palm Beach Cardinals 9 at Daytona Tortugas 10

The Low-A Palm Beach Cardinals’ ninth-inning comeback fell just short in Thursday’s road loss.

Gabriel Chinchilla started for Palm Beach. The right-hander threw 1 ⅔ innings and allowed seven runs on five hits, two walks, and two strikeouts.

Jacob Haley gave up two runs across 2 ⅓ frames in relief of Chinchilla. Nathan Shinn struck out four over 2 ⅓ shutout frames. Justin Militello gave up a run across the final 1 ⅔ innings.

The Cardinals struck early. Ryan Mitchell clubbed a leadoff home run, his 12th of the year.

The Tortugas tied the game in the home first and scored eight runs in the second to jump ahead 9-1.

The Cardinals grabbed two runs in the third. Alexander Frias singled and scored on a two-run home run from Sebastian Dos Santos, his fifth with Palm Beach.

Palm Beach scored twice in the fifth. Dos Santos drew a walk and moved to third on a Matthew Miura single. Dos Santos crossed home plate via a balk, with Miura also awarded second base. Miura moved to third on an errant pickoff throw and scored on a J.P. Cabrera groundout to move closer at 9-5.

Daytona scored an insurance run in the home eighth to take a 10-5 lead into the ninth.

The Cardinals looked to rally with three outs remaining. Miura began the frame with a single. After back-to-back strikeouts, Trevor Haskins walked. Heriberto Caraballo ripped a double to bring Miura home. Mitchell singled home Haskins and Caraballo to narrow the score to 10-8. Mitchell took second on defensive indifference and scored on a triple from Yairo Padilla to bring the Cardinals within one at 10-9, though a strikeout ended the rally just short.

The Cardinals scored nine runs on 16 hits. Every hitter in the lineup recorded a hit. Mitchell was 2-for-4 with two walks, two runs scored, a home run, and three RBI. Dos Santos went 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored, a home run, and two RBI. Padilla was 3-for-6 with a double, a triple and an RBI. Cabrera doubled and drove in a run. Caraballo was 2-for-4, including a walk, a run scored, a double, and an RBI.

On the bases, Miura swiped his 17th bag of the year. Padilla was caught stealing second base.

On defense, third baseman Dos Santos and catcher Jayden Lobliner each made a throwing error. Lobliner picked a runner off second base. Pitcher Militello picked a runner off first base.

Palm Beach is 22-23 in the second half and 55-56 overall.

Friday’s game: at Daytona. Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 5:35 PM CT.

DSL Cardinals 6 at DSL NYY Yankees 2 (7 innings)

The Dominican Summer League Cardinals won over the DSL NYY Yankees in Thursday’s seven-inning road contest.

Jordan Beltrán made his first professional start in his 12th game for the Cardinals. The right-hander pitched 3 ⅔ innings and allowed two runs on two hits, two walks, and eight strikeouts.

Domingo Mejía fired 3 ⅓ shutout frames on just one hit to finish the game and collect his third win.

The Cardinals struck first with a run in the top of the second inning. Jesús Pérez doubled and moved to third on a wild pitch. Diego Conseción brought Pérez home via a groundout.

The DSL NYY Yankees scored twice in the home second to jump ahead 2-1.

The Cardinals tied the game at 2-2 in the sixth. Lucas Takahashi walked and Sebastian Rojas lined a single. Jhon Franganten hit a second consecutive single to plate Takahashi.

The Cardinals came through late with a four-run top of the seventh. With two outs, Roberth Castillo singled. Christian Sáez and Lucas Takahashi drew back-to-back walks to load the bases. Rojas took a third consecutive walk to force Castillo home. Franganten cleared the bases with a triple to widen the lead to 6-2.

The Cardinals held the DSL NYY Yankees to just one hit with runners in scoring position.

The DSL Cardinals scored six runs on six hits. Franganten was 2-for-4 with a triple and four RBI. Rojas was 2-for-3 with a walk, a run scored, and an RBI. Pérez doubled and scored. Conseción walked and logged an RBI.

The Cardinals did not steal a base.

On defense, pitcher Beltrán made a pickoff error. Takahashi nailed a runner at home plate from center field.

The DSL Cardinals are 26-24 on the season. They will play a home contest with the DSL Tigers 1 on Friday.
