I read the article yesterday regarding the upcoming retirement of C.B. Bucknor. And at the end of the article it listed more umpires that are going to retire at the end of 2026.

Andy FletcherThat’s alot of umpiring experience to leave all at once. Plus Phil Cuzzi retired at the end of last year. We might be seeing some younger umpires in 2027. Assuming, of course, there is indeed baseball in 2027.

I’m pretty sure Chip Caray said the umpire for Saturday night’s game was a guy named Moreno. Is there any way he could be added to the retirement list, or at least prohibited from calling balls and strikes? It was embarrassing watching him. Thank goodness the players were able to maintain a sense of dignity.

I can just imagine that long in the future a committee of experts will reassess C.B. as seen through the lens of their day and figure out that we did not adequately appreciate his greatness.
