Marmol was buying fans tickets for this game and Saturday, but they are sold out.

It really was an energetic atmosphere there with those guys in attendance. Probably a net gain for the Cardinals financially as well. The cost of admission is nice but where they really make some good money is on concessions. And I’m guessing some of those guys bought quite a few alcoholic beverages which is where margins are really high.

Good job by oli. He may grow on me yet but not yet.

So do we count Leahy the #4 starter and Pallante #5 ?

In my estimation Pallante’s overall output of work thus far this season has been better than either May or Liberatore. At least the raw numbers say so.

Ollie has given new meaning to the term “paid attendance.”

In addition to holding a commanding lead for NL MOY consideration, the Redbird manager is now the undisputed #1 ticket broker for loud and boisterous Cardinal fans who not only really know how to create a raucous and hostlie environment for the opposition, but also how to genuinely have a lot of fun at the ballpark. I have no choice other than to salute the ingenious PR move and the 27-18 W/L record that his baseball team has placed up on the board well past the quarter mark of the ’26 season. He really may be developing into the Little Perfessor…

From the start, I’ve wondered whose idea it really was. Was it Oli’s or someone in marketing? Did he really buy the tickets out of his own pocket? If so, did he have to pay full price?

Doesn’t matter, I guess. It worked.

Brilliant idea bringing in these rowdy young men. But a name must be bestowed upon them. The first name that came into my mind was “The Herd”, but maybe a more baseball oriented name works better. Since Oli is springing for the free tickets, it might not be a bad idea to also buy the 21+ year old ones some beer too. I think what we’re seeing now largely is an extremely boisterous, rabid (in a good way), sometimes out of control…..but sober large group of young men showing the support for the team that they cherish. Now imagine adding alcohol to the equation. It has the potential to make those old 10 cent beer nights at the ol’ ballpark look like charity bake sales.

It was impossible not to observe the celebration in right field due to the fact that’s all they showed between pitches. But this group was fully engaged in the game. Tapping their heads to question calls and cheering at the appropriate times. Mix in too much alcohol and it’s just another Wrigley field drunk fest.

I got into it with the guy on the next barstool over that exact question. My position was that there is no reason to think the Cardinals marketing is smart enough to come with it. He came back with there is even less reason to think Oli is smart enough to come with it, and I had to concede, narrowly avoiding fisticuffs. We agreed that whoever is responsible gets a hat tip, and tilted one back in appreciation.

I wonder: Do they still sell the long neck bottled beers in the park?

There really are kids out there in this day and age that are still receiving proper parenting……very refreshing pic, Carter.

Mention of long necks brings back memories. My dad always drank Stag in returnable longnecks. A case came in a crate and the crate and empties had to be returned. You would get dinged for any missing bottles. Dad kept the beer in an old fridge in the garage that had a type of handle that could be fitted with a padlock, and the crate for empties sat on the floor next to it. Dad had four sons, so he had to keep an eye on things. A moderate amount of shrinkage would pass without comment. If it got excessive, or if he got dinged for missing empties, the dreaded padlock would appear for a few weeks. We all learned a lesson in moderation, responsibility, and not abusing a good thing. All qualities that seem lacking now days.

Bling, my Gramps did the same thing. I remember the wood box thing that held one case.
I walk to the market every day and pick up plastic bottles for excersize. You can’5 believe the amount of those damn things discarded!

I guess the plastics lobby is stronger than the glass. Too bad the bottle deposit makes too much sense for the present

May I remind everyone that this is a game thread and not a 100 bottles of beer on a wall drinking thread. If I may, I’ll redirect this thread in the proper direction……thank you.

My Sunday din-din will be a breakfast for din-din later today. Stepping up to the plate will be 3 medium poached eggs over 2 pieces of white toast, with butter, salt and pepper gracing it’s top. Also on the din-din docket will be hash browns with cheese and onion, all beef sausages and french toast heavily laden with butter and syrup.

Really cool atmosphere those young guys bring. There is a segment on the mlb app where Ollie brought the guys down to the clubhouse to meet the players. Masyn Winn said they really have made a difference in motivating the players. He likened it to a college atmosphere, and said the last two games are the most fun he has had playing ball.

Dealing with the empties that would pile up at the supermarket was an after school job for kids back then. Supermarkets would only carry beer brands that came in the standard dark bottles that were all the same. Beer that came in a different bottle had to be got at a liquor store. Soda pop bottles had to be sorted, which was a pain, and milk bottles had to go back to the dairy bottler they came from, so stores tended to just carry one, usually Pevely around here.

In 2012 or ’13 I got the idea in my head that if we can get 10 games over .500 in May we would win the division. We may not do it today, but it sure looks like it will happen 😉

Hat tip to Oli or whoever it was to buy the tickets for the rowdy boys from Stephen F. Austin. Apparently the young Lumberjacks had traveled to Alton, IL for a baseball tournament and got to stop in at Busch. Yesterday they got to go into the clubhouse after the game. I really like this!

OMG Pevely milk! That really takes me back. Our milk man would put a quart by our door every day (and it was never stolen)
