Cards.TV // KMOX // WIJRMets are a totally different animal than Tampa.
Interested to see how the youngsters handle this series.
The season opening series showed a strong offense, but lousy pitching, especially the bullpen. Also Marmol again does odd things, like not bringing Soriano back for a second inning yesterday in a game still winnable, plus hitting Herrera at 2 and Winn at 4.
I think it was the opening game where Herrera doubled, then Marmol pinch-ran for him. If you have to pinch run for a number 2 hitter then you probably have the wrong guy hitting there. Get the speed at the top and the run producers in the middle.
Yeah, I was going to say that the kiddos aren’t out of school yet and the weather was bad, but the kiddos don’t go to school on the weekends and the weather was absolutely picture perfect beautiful and ideal for enjoying a baseball game…
I’d say so too, Bling. Redbird fans absolutely love to hate HoJo, Dykstra, Straw Man and the rest of those degenerate villians from gotham.
I’ve been led to understand that the Mets are supposed to be pretty good this season. They finished up 13 games behind the Phillies in ’25. I’d like to see them improve to about 20 games off the pace in ’26. I’ll be rooting for them…
For some reason I never got into the whole Mets-hating thing of the mid-to-late ’80s. They were just another team, with more drama when they got good starting in ’84 and Keith Hernandez on them. I still was more anti-Cub than anti-Met in those days.
But at that time, the Mets had mostly been really bad from the time they started and into the ’80s. They had the magical 1969 season, and were pretty good in the early ’70s – even winning the pennant in ’73 despite a record barely over .500. But I liked seeing Willie Mays get one last shot at a World Series that year, and then they were bad again up until the mid ’80s.

I got to see Willie in Houston that year. My dad was working there. We lived in KC.
The pitch Lindor hit a triple on was a changeup out over the middle of the plate. This is something Leahy often struggled with when he was a minor league starter. It was the same as a reliever, but he could throw a bit harder with shorter stints. The difference now is he has refined some of his pitches a bit and he now has a nasty sweeper.
In my view, for 3 or 4 seasons in the mid 80’s the Cardinals/Mets NL East rival was leaps and bounds more intense and extreme than the Cardinals/Cubbies ever was in my lifetime. It was a genuine blood feud from ’85 to ’87. At that time I was in my mid to late 20’s and attended somewhere in the area of 30 to 40 games a season with tickets that were normally a general admission that allowed me through the gate. I took those Cardinals/Mets baseball games very, very seriously and I absolutely detested those lousy so and so’s from gotham.
I will concede that I was awestruck anytime I saw a very young Dwight Gooden take his turn in the Mets rotation. He was no joke at 19 and 20 years of age, and if not for some really lousy choices, I believe he would have had a decent chance to put numbers up on the board that would have placed him in an echelon that ranked with some of the greatest pitching names in history.
That run started with the first batter and Winn letting that grounder to his right get under his glove. Would have taken a pretty good play but not spectacular by any means. Didn’t want to get dirty, I guess.
The 6th was a different story. Leahy losing sharpness. Control issues, getting it up. Good outing though. We will see how he gets along start to start.
This pitcher’s ERA dropped to a bit lower than his jersey # after retiring the first Mets batter of the 6th…
