99 RBI’s in 129 games this year including 37 in 41 games for Memphis. Weird stat…he hit .298 for Worcester and .198 for Memphis with an equal number of AB’s – all in the International league.
Numerically his BAbip drop forced his BA down. The HR’s and bb/k remained constant. His doubles are down, as if his STL gappers didn’t find grass. An eyeball of his STL time may confirm. Infielders may have made plays on grounders down the line robbing doubles.
Kyle Reis talked often on Wednesdays with Walton and Reis about Jordan. He’s from near Memphis and it seems like he was really pressing, at least to start. I think he’ll be fine…probably just needed some time to settle back in.
As mentioned on the 40-man thread, Jordan is on the bubble as far as being protected from Rule 5. He was a bonus to the Cardinals as their primary objective was apparently to get another team to take Matz’ entire remaining contract. The Red Sox did that and threw in Jordan, too.
Brian, it was somewhat reminiscent of the DeJong for Svanson trade. We were just happy to find any suitor to take DeJong’s salary and then actually got a decent pitcher too. We will see with Jordan. But any real prospect return we got for Matz was kind of unexpected from a team also picking up Matz’ salary.
The cardinals basically saved $4 million on the Matz deal…it’s a little scary that it was that much of a priority when if they finished 5 games over .500 they could have been in the playoffs…to me just shows they are focused on money/profits than winning games at least for this year….Think that is why they also saw a drop of 750,000 in attendance.
The Cardinals are loaded with 1B/DH types, but they are all Mo guys. Jordon came over from Boston, and Bloom may have had a say, or at least has some familiarity. So that may be a factor weighing in Jordan’s favor. Ideally, they find a way to off Contreras, and Herrera is a potential trade piece that actually has some value if Bloom is hoping to find a pitcher or outfielder. Some roster churn wouldn’t be a bad thing.
I think Herrera might be one of the only guys who they won’t trade Bling. Only because he’s right handed and our roster is so lh heavy.

Also, Herrera was their best hitter this season by a considerable margin despite being a minimum salary guy. If you think it is a fluke, you sell high. If you think he is for real, you keep him.
I didn’t think they should sell everything. It appears that the Cardinals have really upgraded the minors with the last 2 drafts and a little development this year. They might be closer to competing than some think. They need some quality starting pitching and a good hitting OFer.

So they need mid and upper rotation help and MOTO bats, same as every year recently. How is that closer to competing than some think? Especially since they won’t be spending any money.
We will be relying on a collection of complementary type bats. Mostly young, so they can get better. They can also get worse and they can also just spin their wheels. There will probably be examples of all that. We need a couple lunkers plopped down in the middle of the order but that won’t happen. We should also note that we got pretty lucky this season with pitcher injuries. We can’t expect that to repeat, and we will have zero depth. If we can come away with .500 I will call it a success, all things considered, while hopefully the PD makeover progresses.

Forsch correctly identifies the areas as of need, and they are the most expensive roles in baseball. Pretty good chance thats the reason we lack those players.
Bills interview with Kilkoyn had him promising “we will do all we can to win”.
Try adding 50mil MORE towards the 2026 budget mcScroog. Poor Bill wants to win on his terms, which means we’re not close.
No way I would trade Herrera. He is by far our best hitter and is still making league minimum!
Our second best hitter is Burly and he is only at arb1 salary. I am keeping him too and would kike to shift him to 1B.

If they trade those 3 guys, it thins the lh herd. It also leaves us needing 2 outfielders if you move Burly to first. Where Willy? Traded? DH? You playing Saggesse at third? It’s going to be interesting.

It isn’t likely they would trade both Nado and Gorman but you can’t completely rule it out. If so 3B would be Donnie, Saggese, or Wetherholt.
Either Noot or Donnie probably gets traded. The one that stays ends up in LF or RF.

As to Blaze Jordan, he better hit this year in Memphis. You can’t cherry pick your way around a BA like that, especially a first baseman.
My expectations of Blaze Jordan are very tempered. Until proven other wise I expect him to be no more than a Luke Voit or Luken Baker. Voit would be the best case scenario.

You are right. Blooms going to earn his paycheck. I still think we will need a couple years to straighten it out and Bloom is the right guy for the job.
That’s disappointing. Let’s hope Blaze gets back in form with another full season in the minors. It’s just as well, 2028 is when any openings will come available with the big league club.
