Just watched the replay of last night’s game. Liberatore pitched OK and it’s a shame he couldn’t hold on for the win. Baseball, it seems, has turned into a game of five innings.
The thing that bugged me the most, however, was those was those black uniforms. I wonder who dreamed up such a thing for the “Reds!” Those outfits looked like what I used to wear when I played for Jack’s Green Door on an old farts’ tavern league softball team. HaHa!
Anyway, for those who keep track of such things, the CiFs will be feasting tonight on the usual cold cantaloup, followed by tacos and refried beans, and I think there remains a couple of cartons of Haagen Dazs in the freezer itching to be slathered with chocolate syrup.

CiF, Help! I won a leg of lamb. Picked it up from the butcher shop just now. Fresh, not frozen. Boneless, in a net, 4.5 lbs. What to do? Google recipes and You Tubes have all kinds of craziness.
Bling: I’m more of a lamb chop man than a leg man, but for some reason (I think that’s because it’s what my Mom told me) we always had a leg of lamb at Easter, so I usually do one once a year (thanks Mom). And her version was really quite simple: Stab your meat with a sharp knife 20/30 times, take 10/20 cloves of garlic and slice them into several little sticks each, removing the core. Shove these little sticks into the meat one to each stab wound. Rub the lamb thoroughly with olive oil. Sprinkle all over with a mixture of salt, pepper, crushed thyme and rosemary. Roast at 325F until pink and juicy (about 2 – 2 1/2 hours). Remove from oven and let stand 20/30 minutes.
That’s what I remember from my Mom, but there are myriad other ways and herbs, depending on your taste. Tender juicy lamb is wonderful stuff.

Listen to cif Bling. I like mint or rosemary jelly on the side. If you have a Weber kettle wrap it in foil and put it out there not too hot of a fire. Use temp gauge medium rare no more. What he said with the prep is the trick.
OK its stabbed and rubbed inside and out and put back in the net. Charcoal will be ready about one beer from now.
Wow that lamb sounds delish. I have been eating low carb the last couple of weeks (6 days a week because I still do pizza on Friday nights) so for lunch today I had two low carb tortillas stuffed with ham and cheese accompanied by some tasty pork rinds and a tall glass of diet mountain dew. Tonight for dinner I am grilling burgers and will cover mine with a big caesar salad. There used to be a local restaraunt that served caesar burgers and they were the best thing ever.
I haven’t posted much the last couple of days. We had a big storm blow through here earlyThursday morning with some big time lightning. Both of my tv’s, apple tv boxes, internet modem, wifi router, and sprinkler system connected to wifi all got zapped. And I mean really zapped. I have slowly been trying to put the pieces back together and still have a ways to go.
I barely knew lambs had legs, and to be honest, they might have been extinct by now for all I knew, so I appreciate the advice.
Man alive, that’s a lousy shame, gscottar. Hope you get lined out. When I was still single I rented the first floor of a two family flat that took a direct hit by lightning during a storm. It fried my TV, an old electric can opener, and every last light bulb. The strike was late during the night and nearly knocked me out of bed. The girl that lived in the second story unit above me wasn’t able to salvage a solitary appliance that was plugged in. Mother nature doesn’t play around when she’s agitated.
That’s true 1td. All you can do is hunker down until it is over. Since then I have been pestering my insurance agent.

Meanwhile this does look like a tough one. We are not the best against lefties, and this guy is pretty good.
I put a crockpot of red chili together a couple of days ago, and we still have a lot so that will be tonight’s fare. Some cornbread on the side, and we always have Fritos with is as well. I put grated sharp cheddar cheese in mine, while the Lovely Lady Bike prefers sour cream. Chili and Saturday calls for a cold, frosty one to drink, and we will finish it off with ice cream.
Hope this Redlegs go back to their regular uni’s tonight. Those black ones were hard to take. Frank Robinson, Vada Pinson, and Pete Rose probably launched a heavenly protest.
That was one of the weirdest plays I’ve seen. Infield fly dropped with bases loaded so Herrera decided to run home but they threw it home so he jogged back to third but everyone had moved up a base so Herrera was just stranded and he jogged back home and got tagged out.
In general, average players are players with a WAR between 1.5 to 2.5 over 600 plate appearances. To be a good team, you need all the main guys to be there or better. You can probably live with 1 below if you have several above. Where are the Cardinals position players this season by FWAR if you prorate each to 600 plate appearances?
4 are clearly above average (although no one is all star 4.5 or more):
Winn – 4.13
Donovan – 2.9
Herrera – 2.84
Scott – 2.84 (yes, I know – you’re surprised)2 others are just above average:
Contreras – 2.53
Pages – 2.522 are average (or within .01 of average in this case):
Burleson – 2.03
Pozo – 1.49And 5 are below average:
Nootbaar – 1.38
Arenado – 1.07
Gorman – .94
Saggese – .63

There’s a good reason why Scott and Pages play a lot despite offensive limitations.
There’s almost no discernible difference between Gorman and Arenado. Although Gorman hasn’t been at 3rd all season and that so far has been a rough experiment.
Nootbaar and Arenado are the most disappointing this season compared to expectations. Walker too of course, but it was hard to have many expectations for him.
Church hits it through a monumental size hole on the left side to drive home 2 after Abbott loaded the bases with 2 walks and a hit batter.
Steamer Projections before season vs Prorated FWAR so far:
Winn – 3.6 vs 4.1
Donovan – 2.6 vs 2.9
Herrera – 2.5 vs 2.8
Burleson – 1.3 vs 2.0
Pages – .8 vs 2.5

Saggese – .6 vs .6All of those are good news – at or better than preseason expectations.
