As of 3:15 est – 2:15 cst – there is a band of storms and showers in the SE Missouri area. It appears to be heading in a leisurely direction towards the metropolitan St. Louis area. Stay tuned as it is still over four hours from first pitch at Sportsman’s Park.

And it’s currently raining – a light rain – here in SW Indiana.

Din din today is a Philly from Subway. Along with some baked beans, an ice cold slushy Mt. Dew, and a chocolate shake.

Libby is pretty decent and Freeland is bad. Hopefully the right handed bats can do some damage and Libby has a good start. He’s got to be tired after the ramp up in innings this year.

I sure hope that’s all it is. And I hope some of McGreevy’s levelheadedness rubs off on Liberatore and Pallante. Both are talented, but neither can get his head screwed on tight.

i don’t know who’s going to replace him in the bullpen. But lately it’s been looking like Leahy is a lock for the rotation next year.

Here we are, about 90 minutes before first pitch. And according to the Doppler Radar there is a Flash Flood warning for the St. Louis area.

There appears to be some smaller cells in and around the metro St. Louis area. And much bigger areas of green stuff just east of St. Louis now. Looks like us folks over here in Indiana might get pounded again.

We will be lucky this game gets played tonight. At least lucky if there is not another delay.

Beautiful meteorological reports, Rat! As previously mentioned, where else can one get an ACCURATE weather lowdown for both the greater metropolitan St. Louis area and S.W. Indiana…….all in one fell swoop.

Wouldn’t it be beautiful to sweep these Coloradoians and the Jays do likewise to the suddenly hapless cubbies. That would put us within sniffing distance of overtaking them in the standings. I know I’m dreaming because let’s face it and call a spade a spade here……they without question have a more abundant amount of quality horses in the stable than we presently have.
But, this is baseball so you never know.

And what’s for din-din one may ask? It was a trip earlier on over to Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse, where I gobbled up a medium rare ribeye, mashed potatoes, broccoli and then afterward I ventured on over to the drive-thru lane at Popeye’s to snag not one…..not two…..but three scrumptious apple cinnamon pies, which are sitting smack dab in front of me as we speak. I’m contemplating jazzing them up with 3 scoops of Breyers vanilla bean ice cream……not that they really need any jazzing.

As predicted we are in a weather delay.

The tarp is currently on the field at Sportsman’s Park.

No idea at the moment when we can expect first pitch.

And taking a gander at the out-of-town scoreboard:

Reds lead the Phillies 3-0 in the last of the 5th at Riverfront Stadium.

The Cubs trail Toronto 1-0 after two innings up near the Rogers Centre.

Are you saying that Colorado has more horses in the stable than the Cardinals? That is not true.

The cubbies, not the Rockies, GameCard.

Are we going to be playing baseball tonight, Rat? And if so, what is the exact time when the first pitch will be hurled? It never ceases to amaze me how Rat predicts these rain delay resumptions to the exact minute.

Libby has looked good through 3. The offense not so much.

Feels weird to say this, but the Cards are within shouting distance of the playoffs. 3 games behind the Mets after their recent collapse. Reds are ahead at 2 games behind. I don’t think the Cards make the playoffs. Just noting as it feels wrong for this team to be so close to the playoffs.

It’s the logical result of the 3 WC’s in each league, Albert. Everyone gets ice cream or a snow cone after the game.

Pugs – That weather combination is indeed amazing. Nowhere else can you get that other than right here in this commentary. I dare you to try to find it elsewhere. Maybe one. Maybe the other. But never both.

Ok. We need to wake up from whatever funk we’re in. I think sometimes so many games lull you into going through the motions.

WAKE UP Bats! Jobu – if you no help me now . . .

Is Kris Bryant a top 3 worst contract signing ever? The Rockies still have him through 2028 at $27 million per season.

The first 3 years have netted the Rockies -1.8 WAR. I’m not sure it gets any better the rest of the way.

Bryant is up there. Above him is easily Anthony Rendon though.

Rendon is at least positive 3.8 FWAR thus far. But he’s getting paid far more than Bryant so I’d probably agree there.

    Well phooey!

It’s storming and raining here in SW Indiana and I’ve lost my satellite feed.

Time to fix my center cut rib chop in the air fryer for my late supper.

Not missing much yet Rats. Solid pitching by Svanson. A few deepish Cardinal fly outs.

Three double plays now for the Cardinals. That last one by Herrera was devastating after our first two reached and the game is getting later.

We’ve only had 6 base runners through 6 innings and half have been erased by twin killings.

No runs through six innings again tonight.

When you don’t have any hitters you don’t score any runs.

Cubs lost to the BlueJays 5-1.

    Milwaukee pounding Pittsburgh late.

Cubs will soon be 7.5 games out.

It shouldn’t be shocking. He has limited plate discipline. That would be his 12th GIDP in about 240 AB.
