The #stlcards system was 0-1 on Monday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, DSL SS Miguel Hernandez, was 3-for-4, including a double, a run scored and an RBI. Other standouts: Pedro Olivero, Sebastian Dos Santos and Yaxson Lucena. We also set up this week’s series.… pic.twitter.com/IXCn08vPXm

July 30, 2025 at 6:08 am #288859The #stlcards system was 2-3 on Tuesday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Memphis 3B César Prieto, went 4-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored. July 30, 2025 at 6:30 am #288861Nice seeing Cade “Tall Timber” Winquest spinning a decent game. It’s not often that umpires are positively recognized too. But the 1st base ump in last night’s Springfield game is an absolute dandy. When Ethan “Eagle Eye” Gorsak is calling the balls and strikes, then home plate disputes are virtually non-existent. Watching “Eagle Eye’s” emphatic calls of the balls & strikes is almost worth the price of admission in itself.
July 31, 2025 at 7:49 am #289024The #stlcards system was 3-0 on Wednesday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, rehabbing Springfield 2B Nolan Gorman, hit a two-run home run and a double. Other standouts include Pete Hansen, Andrew Dutkanych and Jonathan Mejia. https://t.co/jQlv1se4Bf pic.twitter.com/UhzbgVMaWY

stlcard25ParticipantNice work for Dutkanych. Would be good to see one of the mid round gambles pay off after all the failures. Would be interested to see how his stuff looked, if he was throwing gas or got most of his Ks on off speed pitches?
July 31, 2025 at 12:21 pm #289067Koperniak is hitting homers like crazy lately. 2 already today and like 4 or 5 in the past week.
July 31, 2025 at 1:26 pm #289074
stlcard25ParticipantPerhaps he’s been working on something and it’s finally clicking. Or maybe he’s getting healthy. As mentioned before, he’s too good a hitter to have the stats he’s had this year. I’m on record as liking him much more than most as I think he could make Nootbaar redundant, quickly.
July 31, 2025 at 1:28 pm #289075I have always been on the Koperniak bandwagon. His drop off this year made no sense. Hopefully he has figured it out.
July 31, 2025 at 1:43 pm #289077Does Nootbaar’s drop off this year make sense? I know it’s not as big of a drop as Koperniakwho went from rather elite AAA outfielder to nearly unplayable AAA outfielder, but it could qualify in the same context as not making sense.
July 31, 2025 at 3:15 pm #289085Noot’s drop off hasn’t been as severe in my opinion. His OPS has gone from .758 to .712 in the last year but he could still end up with a higher WAR than last year if his most recent IL stint isn’t too long.
Koperniak’s OPS has gone from .882 to .654 in the last year. That is a big drop.
If you are saying that both could be caused by the randomness of the baseball world then I suppose it could be.
July 31, 2025 at 3:40 pm #289090
stlcard25ParticipantKoperniak has always been a good hitter. His four full season batting averages until now are .306, .291, .287, and .309. His drop to .237 suggests some unsuccessful tinkering or injury, or both. His July is looking better, though.
Nootbaar has always been a low average, good plate discipline guy who can’t stay too healthy. This year doesn’t feel too out of the ordinary for him.
July 31, 2025 at 7:51 pm #289174Weatherholt .327 and 5 HR’s in 14 games at AAA hitting leadoff
August 1, 2025 at 6:19 am #289198The #STLCards system was 2-4 on Thursday. TCN’s Player of the Day, Memphis RF Matt Koperniak, slugged two HRs for five RBI, his second multi-HR game in his last five. Other standouts: Curtis Taylor, Lars Nootbaar, Mason Burns, Reiner Lopez, Miguel Hernandez and Edward Guribe.… pic.twitter.com/e3qhZwVQlz

August 1, 2025 at 10:53 am #289221As a quick aside, not sure if many of you saw or heard the details of Springfield’s victory over Arkansas on Wednesday, but Ethan “Eagle Eye” Gorsak, called an unbelievably flawless game as the HP ump. If he’s not fast tracked to the show, then something is terribly wrong.
August 1, 2025 at 12:49 pm #289235Pugs, I assume you personally know Gorsak? Because I can’t even tell you who most MLB umpires are, let alone a single one in the minors even for the local minor league team where I’m at.
August 1, 2025 at 3:00 pm #289244Hey Albert! I don’t personally know “Eagle Eye”, but his ledger of work is an astounding one. How often do you see an ump go through an entire season without a disputed call? Never until Mr. Gorsak came along. I wouldn’t mind hopping in the car to see a game when “Eagle Eye” is calling the balls & strikes, but Springfield may be the closest Texas League location to Wisconsin……so it’s something to ponder.
August 1, 2025 at 3:28 pm #289247Astute observation, Pugs. Big League umpiring could definitely be improved. Bring ‘eagle eye’ up.
August 1, 2025 at 4:04 pm #289253Here here Mud! If Garrett Hampson can get the call up to the big leagues…………..why not “Eagle Eye”?
August 1, 2025 at 8:26 pm #289292I expected to check the box score for Memphis and see Mathews with a lot of walks. But I was pleasantly surprised to see he went 6.2 with 2 ERs and 9 Ks to 1 BB. He did hit 2 by pitch though so still needs progress. But what was nice to see what 94 pitches with 63 strikes.
August 2, 2025 at 5:52 am #289346Note Matthews’ lack of effectiveness with the fastball…
The #stlcards system was 2-3 on Friday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Memphis 1B Matt Lloyd, was 3-for-4 with five RBI and two runs scored. Other standouts include Quinn Mathews, Nathan Church, Chase Davis, Zach Levenson and Yeferson Portolatin. https://t.co/SR2epE4spK pic.twitter.com/995gAul7vm

August 3, 2025 at 7:35 am #289449The #stlcards system was 2-4 on Saturday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Springfield 3B Dakota Harris, homered and drove in three. Other standouts include César Prieto, Brycen Mautz, Chase Davis, Braden Davis and Angel Cuenca. https://t.co/rRxPCgn64n pic.twitter.com/wyZwkJFM03

August 3, 2025 at 2:09 pm #289491Jj 3for 4 with a homerun and 3 rbi. Jordan 1 for 3 2rbi. Today.
August 3, 2025 at 3:01 pm #289492I still wish somebody would explain why Matthews’ FB is 3-5 mph slower than it was in 2024 when he flew through the Cardinals’ entire minor league system.
August 3, 2025 at 4:07 pm #289499Mud – It’s got to be his shoulder injury. My guess is that affected him and there may also be part of him not wanting to push it. I don’t want to see him injured again so I’m hoping he gets a little stronger in the offseason and finds another 1-2 mph next season and just holds it there. With the rest of his repertoire, he should still be pretty good with that mix – just not a number 1 good.
