Yesterdays loss was a tough one, but there is good news. Gray starts today, and during his last start, he posted a GmSc of 96. That’s the highest SP game score of the season, in baseball (Skubal also has a 96).

A sac fly beat us yesterday. They cashed in on their opp, we didn’t. A simple sac fly can be a W, or an L.

Ignoring a stagger makes sense, our RH bats have two regulars missing. Best bats up front. I prefer Gormans arm at 3B, and deep short in a shift, but there may be reasons for this infield today.

This team has not scored in 23 innings now.

Didn’t somebody say that don’t have anybody that can hit?

Seems like I have heard or read that somewhere before.

It is beginning to look like our pitchers need to start holding other teams to negative runs scored for us to get the W. Let’s work on that and see where we can get.

Just now able to tune in and the box says that 2 of 3 doubles from the Redbird bats were of the lead-off variety. This team can’t spell RBI.

We’ve stranded so many guys at 3B this series I’ve lost count.

The Cardinals will have 6 outs to avoid being victimized by the last place Pirates in the form of a 3 game sweep in which they couldn’t push a solitary run across HP. That’s a genuine first rate humiliation.

Welp we are staring at a 3 game sweep from the last place Pirates without scoring a run. Not exactly how we drew it up. Not much momentum as we head into another possible three game sweep this weekend.

Wonder if there is any serious introspection going on right now.

This is such a weird streaky team. The first two games of the Cub series were great then the last two we got throttled. Then we sweep the very decent Guardians before getting swept by the last place Pirates.

    The team is bipolar.

This is exactly what you wanted to see…if you are in the camp of wanting the Cardinals to sell at the deadline. If they are playing well, the temptation would be to keep the band together and add some pieces to be more competitive to get in the playoffs. If they lose a bunch and are our of contention, pieces like Helsley and Fedde (and others) might be moving on. The worst spot to be in would be just close enough that you don’t want to trade anyone but have no real chance of making a run in the playoffs. Then you get nothing for the players with expiring contracts and lose a chance of restocking the minors.

I get the concept c64 but I refuse to root for the Cardinals to lose. I don’t assume that if we are sellers we are going to get a big haul of top notch prospects back. I also don’t assume that if we squeak into the playoffs we will be one and done. That is the thing with a bipolar team. You never now what might happen next.

That’s 15 games in 14 days, straight. We went 9-6 w/l. We were 38-35 starting these 15 games, and are +6 now, at 47-41 w/l.

I couldn’t root for the Cards to lose, either, though this series could be a blessing in disguise. I don’t want any potentially valuable future assets sacrificed for a rental in pursuit of a third wildcard I’m not even sure this team could achieve.

I wouldn’t want them to do that either Mort but I don’t think they would have to give up too much to get another bullpen piece or something like that. In fact they could both sell and buy.

They could trade Fedde for a couple of prospects, insert McGreevy into the rotation, then trade a prospect for a bullpen upgrade. The team would probably be better and the reset would not be harmed.

As for upgrading the offense I am going to borrow an old Mo line and say that our biggest deadline pickup is going to be Ivan Herrera.
