Also BS South and Southwest ExtraUpdating the WC race. We are 6 back and would have to pass the Cubs, Braves and Mets. The Giants are 1.5 behind us.
Truthfully we are merely spectators in the WC race.
Will have missed the playoffs in ’16, ’17, ’18, ’23, and ’24 so, 5 of the past 9 years, and have made no noise in the post season since 2014 other than appearing in the ’19 NLCS and getting swept away there. A solid decade with only 1 decent result.
When this 2024 season started Mo and others were talking about how they anticipated bounce-back years from some people. And that would propel us into the playoffs this year.
I wonder if they will continue to expect bounce-back years from some people in 2025? If so I expect more of the same results in 2025 that we’ve seen the last two years.

The Cardinals’ current playoff odds per Fangraphs is 0.5%. In other words, 99.5% chance they will miss. I see no reason to hold out hope that this will be the one time out of 200 it will happen.
I fully anticipate our club officially eliminated from post season tourney action by the time Insee them out here a week from next Wednesday. Given that I hope the lineup looks like this:
Herrera – c
Baker – 1b
Sagesse – 2b
Winn – ss
Arenado – 3b (because we are facing the Rockies)
Donovan – lf
Siani – cf
Walker – rf
Burleson – dh
McGreevy – pLet the youngun’s play.
Until the Cardinals are mathematically eliminated, they’ll either make the play-offs or they won’t. So I say the odds be 50/50. Same as the odds of the sun setting in the West…

The point is that the Cardinals have not lived up to their historical standards for a decade yet ownership seems flabbergasted that the stadium isn’t packed. Time for a reality check.
I don’t think ownership’s at all what could be termed flabbergasted by an empty ballpark. Billy Jr. resides in a Cincinnati suburb, so he knows exactly what attendance numbers for a losing baseball team look like. He may be wealthy, but he ain’t stupid…
The odds were worse in ’64, wern’t they? Here’s the formula for us to swing it: Mets and Braves must play around .500 ball while we go on a tare. Get a good defender in right and platoon Goldy vs. righties.
Odds of those 4 things happening is slim, but 95% fail is rediculas. How about 80-20?

1td, as I recall BDW III made some ill advised comments a few months ago regarding how foolish it would be for fans not to attend games. As I said a reality check is happening. It reminds me of when Don Corleone said that it is obvious that he had spoiled his children because they spoke when they should listen.
It is not just Mets and Braves. Cubs are also ahead. Magic number for elimination is 10 Mets wins or Cardinals losses.
Despite the Cardinals having little or no chance for bonus baseball, I’m once again reminded of how foolish and idiotic it is that they have 9 games in Sept. against AL teams from Seattle, Toronto and Cleveland. If they were indeed in the hunt with a reasonable chance to catch a division foe, I’d really have the urge to break some furniture once seeing there were 9 games against the aforementioned teams and no games against a team they were attempting to run down and catch. It’s stupid.
Big time sports are indeed stupid in a lot of ways in these modern times 1TD.
College football, once possibly the greatest of all sporting passions, has deteriorated into maybe the worst of the lot. Players get paid big money, conferences are ridiculous. Being a west-based dude, it was great back in the day when the Big 8 had Nebraska-Oklahoma every Thanksgiving. Now my dad’s Cornhuskers are part of the “Big 18” (I think that is the count), and instead of playing regional rivals Kansas, Oklahoma and Colorado (although they did a two game set against the Buffs as non-conference affairs), they might play Rutgers, Maryland and the latest are UCLA or USC.
Stupid, stupid, stupid. I understand revenue drives the truck, but something bigger has left the building. Baseball is the same way. Still great, as is college football as we see these fabulous athletes do amazing things on the field, but man, those old days were special.
But maybe I am just an old guy living in the past and the younger folks today will have every bit as good of memories about the games today when they look back some 40 years from now.
Oh, and again on the lineup I would flip Donovan and Burleson. But I say that every game and it ain’t gonna happen.
Yeah, Bikemike, greed seems to always have a tremendous negative impact across the board in all of sports. One of the first gems that I can recall being tarnished by money and hyperbole was the NCAA Basketball Tournament. For a couple of decades it was really something special until huge corporate sponshorship interevened. Now it’s almost as bad as the modern day version of Super Bowl Sunday. I’ll take a pass.
I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen a Friday game thread veer so off track as today’s. Here it is 6:30pm and not a single word about catfish fiddlers, let alone din-dins. Some weeks I just can’t wait until Friday to feast on fiddlers. This was such a week, as I indulged on a fat plate of tasty fiddlers on Tuesday. Tonight it was breakfast for din-din. Three poached eggs over two pieces of white toast(heavily buttered, salted and peppered), all beef sausage links, Jimmy Dean biscuits & gravy and a steaming cup of Folgers black silk coffee with a dash of whole milk mingled in. Go Birds!
