The St. Louis Cardinals system went 2-2 on Sunday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Palm Beach DH Jose Cordoba, hit a home run, drew three walks and drove in three. Other standouts include Steven Matz, Jordan Walker, Quinn Mathews and Ramon Mendoza.

The Memphis Redbirds (19-20) defeated the Gwinnett Stripers (18-21) 5-4 on Sunday at AutoZone Park. Starter Steven Matz continued his rehab assignment, pitching four innings, and allowing one unearned run on two hits while striking out three.
The Stripers took an early lead in the first with an RBI double.
The Redbirds responded in the bottom half of the inning with César Prieto’s sacrifice fly and a wild pitch by the opposing pitcher that allowed Matt Koperniak to come home.
Jordan Walker crushed one for a solo homer in the third to make the score 3-1.

A passed ball in the fourth brought home José Fermín to increase their lead to 4-1. Thomas Saggese’s RBI single in the fifth capped off Memphis’ scoring for the day at five runs.
Gwinnett fired back in the seventh with an RBI double to cut the deficit to 5-2.The visitors brought the game to within one in the eighth with a two-RBI single after Walker committed a throwing error in right field, but they could not tie.
Connor Thomas earned his fifth win this season, allowing one run on three hits in three innings pitched while striking out one. Jacob Bosiokovic pitched 2/3 of an inning, yielding two runs on two hits while walking two. Ryan Loutos earned his 13th save while striking out three in 1 1/3 innings pitched. Memphis allowed four runs, three earned, on seven hits while walking two and striking out seven.
Prieto was 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored. Walker was 2-for-4 with a homer, an RBI, and a run scored. Saggese went 1-for-4 with an RBI. The Redbirds totaled five runs on seven hits with five walks and 11 strikeouts.
The Memphis Redbirds won four of six in their homestand against the Gwinnett Stripers. They will travel to Jacksonville to face the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (19-18, MIA) on Tuesday.

The Springfield Cardinals (23-16) blew a late lead against the San Antonio Missions (18-20, SD) to lose 5-4 on Sunday at Hammons Field. Starter Quinn Mathews threw five innings, allowing one run on two hits while walking two and striking out six.

The Cardinals struck first in the first with Noah Mendlinger’s RBI single and Ramon Mendoza’s two-run moonshot to make the score 3-0.

The Missions responded with an RBI groundout in the fourth.
R.J. Yeager added a solo shot in the seventh to make the score 4-1.
San Antonio took the lead for the first time in the eighth with three RBI singles and a fielding error by left fielder Mendlinger which allowed the final run to come home.
Leonardo Taveras threw two scoreless innings, yielding a walk while striking out three. Andrew Marrero pitched 1/3 of an inning, allowing three runs on no hits while walking three. Wilfredo Pereira pitched 1 2/3 innings, taking his first loss after giving up one run, none earned, on three hits while striking out one. Springfield allowed five runs, four earned, on five hits while walking six and striking out 10.
Mendoza was 1-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, and a run scored. Yeager hit 1-for-5 with a homer, an RBI, and a run scored. Mendlinger went 1-for-3 with an HBP, an RBI, and a run scored. The Cardinals totaled four runs on 12 hits with two walks and nine strikeouts.
The Springfield Cardinals split six against the San Antonio Missions at home. They will travel to Frisco to face the Frisco RoughRiders (23-16, TEX) on Tuesday at 6:05 CT.

The Peoria Chiefs (21-21) fell to the Cedar Rapids Kernels (21-21, MIN) 4-3 on Sunday at Dozer Park. Starter Ixan Henderson threw four innings, allowing three runs on six hits while walking one and striking out five.
The Kernels took the lead in the first with a sacrifice fly after a leadoff triple. They extended their lead to 2-0 in the top of the third with an RBI single.
The Chiefs took the lead in the bottom of the third with Tre Richardson’s RBI triple, Chase Davis’ RBI single, and Johnfrank Salazar’s RBI single.
The lead was short-lived as Cedar Rapids tied the game in the fourth on an RBI single. The visitors took the lead and kept it in the eighth after reliever Tanner Jacobson allowed a sacrifice fly.
Benjamin Arias threw two scoreless innings, yielding a walk. Jacobson took his seventh loss this season, pitching two innings, and giving up a run on one hit while walking and striking out one. Hunter Hayes closed out the ninth with a scoreless inning. Peoria allowed four runs on seven hits while walking three and striking out six.
Davis went 2-for-4 with a walk, an RBI, and a run scored. Richardson was 2-for-4 with a triple, a walk, an RBI, and a run scored. Salazar was 1-for-4 with an RBI. The Chiefs totaled three runs on eight hits with three walks and six strikeouts.
The Peoria Chiefs split their six-game home series with the Cedar Rapids Kernels. They will travel to Wisconsin to face the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (25-16, MIL) in a six-game road trip.

Palm Beach 10 at Dunedin 4 (10 innings)
The Palm Beach Cardinals (29-11) capitalized on Dunedin Blue Jays (19-21, TOR) mistakes to win 10-4 on Sunday at TD Ballpark. Starter Gerardo Salas was not sharp, pitching 3 2/3 innings and allowing four runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out two.
The Blue Jays struck in the first with a sacrifice fly. Dunedin extended their lead to 4-0 in the second with a solo home run, a sacrifice fly, and an RBI single.
The Cardinals started their comeback in the fourth with Cade McGee’s RBI single. They continued to fight back in the sixth with Jose Cordoba’s two-run bomb to left-center field.
Palm Beach tied the game in the seventh on John Kross’ RBI forceout, with the 4-4 tie remaining through nine innings.
In the 10th, the visitors scored six runs without recording a hit when the opposing pitcher balked in a run, plunked Anyelo Encarnacion with the bases loaded, threw a wild pitch that brought McGee home along with a throwing error from the catcher that let Christian Martin score, walked Bryce Madron with the bases loaded, and walked Cordoba with the bases loaded.
Cordoba was 1-for-3 with a home run, three walks, three RBI, and a run scored. McGee was 1-for-3 with two walks, an RBI, and a run scored. Encarnacion went 1-for-5 with an HBP, an RBI, and a run scored. The Cardinals totaled 10 runs on four hits with 15 walks, three hit by pitches, and 11 strikeouts.
Angel Cuenca threw 3 1/3 scoreless relief innings, yielding four hits while walking and striking out one. Henry Gomez earned his fifth win this season, pitching three scoreless innings, giving up three hits while walking one and striking out two. Palm Beach allowed four runs on 14 hits while walking four and striking out five.
The Palm Beach Cardinals won five of six games in their series at the Dunedin Blue Jays. They will return home on Tuesday to face the Jupiter Hammerheads (20-20, MIA) in a six-game homestand.

DSL Cardinals – Off Sunday
The Dominican Summer League Cardinals (24-22) were off Sunday. They remain in fifth place in the eight-team Central Division, 10 ½ games behind the Giants Black. They will return to play on Monday at home against the Tigers 1 (27-21, DET).
