A tough lefty. That means we are beat. Doomed again.

All Goldschmidt does is swing and miss anymore. Every time he comes up I always say outloud to Whitey Herdog….”What’s he got that bat in his hand for???”

And Masyn Winn is falling into a really bad habit. They talked on the ESPN broadcast about how he wants to hit it hard. Slug, slug, slug. He really needs to focus on contact and keep that batting average up around .280 to .300.

Again, it makes me wonder about the hitting coach. And the hitting approach in general for the entire team.

The Cards are the only team out of the top 8 wild card teams that are under .500 in their last 10 games. We’ve lost considerable ground and this is a very important game for getting the ship righted.

Someone in the lineup has to hit for power. Our problem offensively is we have a bunch of singles hitters with SLG under .400 or Gorman hitting Ks. We are up to 13th in BA as a team.

Winn’s shouldn’t be the power hitter on our team, but I think he will find himself hitting 15-20 HRs a year on good contact quality.

This team really needs Gorman and Walker to develop into middle of the order bats. We have a lot of top of the order types like Donovan, Noot, Winn. Contreras and Burly have been nice, but we need more oomph.

I DON’T WANT WINN TO HIT 20 HOMERUNS A YEAR!!!!!!!

YES, YOU READ THAT RIGHT – NOT!!!!!

I want him to focus on contact, put the ball in play, be a .280 to .300 hitter. That’s where his strength lies. Not in slug, slug, slug.

Power is nice. Speed, pitching and defence are nicer. Remember when we had McGwire, Edmonds and Tatis? What did we win?

Remember when Harvey had Wallbangers Gorman, Molitor, Cecil Cooper, Yount and Ted Simmons?
Hell, even their #8 hitter Oglvie hit 29 homers!!! We had Jack Clark.

Remember when the Yankees had Mantle, Maris and Pepitone and Elston Howard? We had Boyer and White

This team is just not put together the Cardinal way. Bringing back Pham??? Old man Pujols last year. WTF??? This is the plan for the future? Clog the roster with has beens for old time sake?

This team gets set down in a hurry. If you blink or open the fridge to grab a quick snack you miss the Cardinal half of the inning.

They will probably do with Winn like they did with Donovan after his first year. Sent him to a guru to optimize his swing. Donnie has been on a steady downward slide ever since, going on two years. They took a great up in the order hitter with almost a .400 OBP and turned him into a down in the order hitter who seldom factors in. Great job.

Lots of negativity, which is understandable with the poor play of late. I am not sure what has me more depressed, the lousy stock market of late or the lousy Cardinals of late. Probably the Cardinals as the market will rally back. The Cardinals do not give me much hope that the pieces are there for a late summer rally.

I see that the batter Pallante walked ended up scoring on a wild pitch. jeesh.

Man, both Contreras last inning and Pages this inning swing at what would have been ball four, to strike out.

If I am coaching, with Scott leading off next inning I have him try bunting for a hit at least once in the at bat.

Yeah, those BB’s that lead-off an inning sometimes seem to come around to score more often than lead-off doubles. Probably has something to do with evil baseball gypsies.

Contreras has been hitting down to the level of most of his team mates.

One ground ball gets through. Then Pallante gets smacked around on 2 pitches down the middle. Perhaps he’s tiring on a hot day.

Either that, or he can’t make a pitch…5-0 Mets.

A pair of timely x-base hits. We should try that.

    They found grass for sure.

Our boys couldn’t “hit” water, even if they fell out of a boat, w/no land in sight.

A 4.2 inning start doesn’t work for me. But at least Pallante isn’t getting paid $18 Million for short starts.
