The St. Louis Cardinals system went 4-3 on Thursday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Brycen Mautz, earned his first win of 2024 with five scoreless innings pitched for Peoria. Other standouts include Connor Thomas, Mike Antico, Chase Adkison, Yordy Herrera and Andrew Bolivar.

Memphis 2, Norfolk 3 (10 innings)
The Memphis Redbirds (8-7) lost to the Norfolk Tides (6-8, BAL) in extras on Thursday at AutoZone Park. Starter Connor Thomas threw four scoreless innings, allowing three hits and a walk while striking out two.
The Tides struck first in the sixth with a solo bomb and an RBI single.
The Redbirds tied it in the seventh with Jared Young’s RBI single and Arquímedes Gamboa’s RBI single.

Norfolk’s sacrifice fly in the 10th gave them a one-run lead.
Ryan Shreve threw three innings and yielded two runs on four hits while walking two and striking out one. Ryan Loutos pitched two scoreless innings while striking out two. Jacob Bosiokovic took his second loss this season, throwing an inning, and giving up one run, none earned, on no hits while recording three straight outs. Memphis allowed three runs, two earned on seven hits while walking three and striking out five.
Young went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Gamboa was 2-for-4 with an RBI. César Prieto was 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, and a run scored. The Redbirds totaled two runs on eight hits with six walks and 14 strikeouts.
Friday’s game: vs. Norfolk, RHP Ian Bedell (1-0, 4.02) vs. Chayce McDermott RHP (2-5, 4.00) 7:05 CT.
The Springfield Cardinals (9-6) defeated the Wichita Wind Surge (5-10, MIN) 6-4 on Thursday at Hammons Field. Starter Max Rajcic threw 5 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out five.
The Wind Surge struck first in the top of the first with a solo moonshot to center.
Jimmy Crooks tied the game in the bottom of the first when he reached on a fielders choice that scored Bryan Torres.
Wichita took the lead in the second with another solo shot and a third solo home run in the third gave the visitors a 3-1 lead.
Matt Lloyd’s sacrifice fly and Mike Antico’s two-run dinger to left gave Springfield a 4-3 lead.

The visitors tied the game in the top of the seventh with their fourth solo longball of the game.
The Cardinals responded in the bottom of the seventh with Matt Lloyd’s RBI double and Nathan Church’s RBI single.

Designated hitter Tommy Edman went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in the second game of his rehab assignment. Lloyd was 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored. Antico hit 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, and a run scored. The Cardinals totaled six runs on 11 hits with two walks and six strikeouts.
Andrew Marrero earned his second win this season, throwing 2 1/3 innings, and yielding one run on two hits. Matt Svanson earned his 13th save, pitching a scoreless inning, and giving up a hit while striking out one. Springfield allowed four runs on eight hits while striking out six.
Friday’s game: vs. Wichita, RHP Trent Baker (3-6, 6.02) vs. Marco Raya RHP (0-2, 5.12) 7:05 CT.
The Peoria Chiefs (11-7) shut out the Quad Cities River Bandits (7-11, KC) 8-0 on Thursday at Modern Woodmen Park. Starter Brycen Mautz earned his first win this season, throwing five scoreless innings, and allowing five hits and five walks while striking out five.
Tre Richardson’s RBI single in the second gave the Chiefs a 1-0 lead. Peoria extended their lead in the third with Johnfrank Salazar’s sacrifice fly, Won-Bin Cho’s RBI single, and Zach Levenson’s RBI single.
Brody Moore’s RBI single and Chris Rotondo’s RBI single added two insurance runs in the sixth to make it 6-0. The Chiefs added two more runs in the ninth on Richardson’s RBI double and Michael Curialle’s sacrifice fly.
Cho was 3-for-4 with a double, a walk, an RBI, and two runs scored. Curialle went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored. Levenson hit 1-for-3 with two walks, an RBI, and a run scored. The Chiefs totaled eight runs on 15 hits with four walks and seven strikeouts.
In relief, Zane Mills threw three scoreless innings, yielding one hit and three walks while striking out three. Tyler Bradt pitched a scoreless inning while striking out one. Peoria allowed no runs on six hits while walking eight and striking out 10.
Friday’s game: at Quad Cities, RHP Inohan Paniagua (7-5, 3.20) vs. Hunter Owen LHP (6-4, 4.00) 6:30 CT.
Palm Beach 5, Clearwater 4 (Game 1, 8 innings)
The Palm Beach Cardinals (11-5) walked it off against the Clearwater Threshers (5-12, PHI) 5-4 in the first half of their doubleheader on Thursday at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. This was the continuation of Wednesday’s suspended game. Before the rain, starter Juan Salas threw 4 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on four hits while walking one and striking out two.
The Cardinals struck first in the third with Chase Adkison’s two-RBI single and Kade Kretzschmar’s two-RBI triple.
The Threshers brought the game within one in the fourth with a three-run homer to center. An RBI single in the sixth tied the game at four apiece.
Chase Davis’ sacrifice fly in the eighth walked it off for Palm Beach, taking the 5-4 win.
Adkison went 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Kretzschmar was 1-for-3 with a triple and two RBI. Lizandro Espinoza was 1-for-3 with a run scored. The Cardinals totaled five runs on three hits with three walks and 10 strikeouts.
Taking the ball on Thursday, Luis Gastelum threw 2 1/3 innings, yielding a run on three hits while walking one and striking out three. Angel Cuenca earned his second win this season, pitching an inning, and giving up a hit while striking out one. Palm Beach allowed four runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out six.
Palm Beach 4, Clearwater 7 (Game 2, 7 innings)
The Palm Beach Cardinals (11-6) split the doubleheader with the Clearwater Threshers (6-12, PHI), losing 7-4 in the second game on Thursday at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Starter Ixan Henderson threw four innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on two hits while walking two and striking out five.
Clearwater took the early lead in the top of the first with a solo home run.
The Cardinals tied it in the bottom half of the inning with Chase Adkison’s solo bomb to left.

The Threshers regained the lead when first basemen Ross Friedrick made a fielding error after a runner stole second, allowing the runner on third to come home.
Palm Beach took the lead for the first time in the fourth when a wild pitch allowed Sammy Hernandez to score and Friedrick’s two-RBI single made the score 4-2.
A Clearwater RBI single and an RBI double in the fifth tied the game at four apiece. The visitors retook the lead with another solo longball in the sixth.
The Threshers continued to add insurance runs in the seventh with a sacrifice fly and a bases-loaded hit by pitch.
Friedrick went 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI. Adkison hit 1-for-4 with a homer, an RBI, and a run scored. The Cardinals totaled four runs on six hits with five walks and 11 strikeouts.
Ettore Giulianelli threw 2/3 of an inning, allowing two runs on three hits while walking two and striking out one. Augusto Calderon took his fifth loss this season, pitching 1 1/3 innings, and yielding one run on two hits while striking out two. Zack Showalter pitched an inning, giving up two runs on no hits while walking two and striking out two. Palm Beach allowed seven runs, six earned, on seven hits while walking six and striking out 10.
Friday’s game: vs. Clearwater, RH Jose Davila (2-5, 5.05) vs. TBD 11:05 CT.
FCL Cardinals 2 at FCL Astros 1 (Game 1, 8 innings)
On Thursday, the Florida Complex League Cardinals (17-28) narrowly defeated the FCL Astros (20-23, HOU) 2-1 at Roger Dean Stadium Complex. Starter Leonel Sequera threw 2 1/3 innings, allowing one run on five hits while walking one and striking out five.
A solo shot to left field gave the Astros an early 1-0 lead.
The score did not change until the top of the seventh when Luis Pino’s pinch hit sacrifice fly forced extras. Chris Lopez’s sacrifice fly in the eighth gave the Cardinals their first lead.
Felix Taveras was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Jonathan Mejia went 1-for-3 with a triple and a walk. Yordalin Pena hit 1-for-4. The Cardinals totaled two runs on four hits with a walk and nine strikeouts.
Yordy Herrera earned his first win, pitching 4 1/3 innings of relief, yielding one hit and no walks while striking out nine. Samuel Fabian earned his second save this season, throwing a scoreless inning while striking out one. The Cardinals allowed one run on six hits while walking one and striking out 14.
FCL Cardinals, FCL Astros (Game 2) suspended
The second half of the FCL Cardinals (17-28) doubleheader against the FCL Astros (20-23, HOU) was suspended in the bottom of the fifth with the Astros up 6-3 due to rain. The game will be completed as part of a doubleheader on Monday, July 15th.
Friday’s game: at FCL Marlins (35-11, MIA), RH Ronny Oliver (2-3, 5.63) vs. TBD 11:00 CT.
DSL Cardinals 4 at DSL Angels 5
The Dominican Summer League Cardinals (12-13) fell to the DSL Angels (17-10, LAA) 5-4 on Thursday at the Los Angeles Angels DR Complex. Starter Andrew Bolivar threw five scoreless innings, allowing three hits while striking out seven.
Christian Saez led off the scoring with an RBI single in the first. The Cardinals extended their lead in the third with Rainiel Rodriguez’s two-RBI single.
Brailyn Paulino took the mound in the sixth and yielded an RBI single, two wild pitches that allowed two runners to come home, and a two-RBI single to give the Angels a 5-3 lead.
Facundo Velasquez brought the game within one with an RBI single in the seventh.
Velasquez went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, an RBI, and a run scored. Rodriguez hit 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI, and a run scored. Saez was 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. The Cardinals totaled four runs on 11 hits with three walks and 12 strikeouts.
Paulino took his first loss, throwing 2/3 of an inning, and giving up five runs on two hits while walking one and plunking two. Kener Perez pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings, yielding two hits and a walk while striking out one. The Cardinals allowed five runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out eight.
Friday’s game: at DSL Giants Black (21-5, SFG), RH Branneli Franco (0-2, 7.88) vs. TBD 10:00 CT.
