RHP Miles Mikolas (6-6, 4.68) vs. LHP Andrew Abbott (6-6, 3.40)
BSM // KMOX // WIJR
Also BS South and Southwest ExtraJune 26, 2024 at 11:06 pm #257977As I was looking at the box from last night’s game it occured to me that there were 5 position players who were in the starting lineup that were drafted by the Cardinals and then manufactured thru their minor league system. That’s pretty good. It also occured to me that when LL takes his turn in the rotation or Helsley closes out the final inning, even the SP’er and closer can be claimed as a native Redbird…
June 26, 2024 at 11:30 pm #257978On a good note……
The Cubs just lost to the Giants for the 3rd straight night. 4-3 San Francisco the final at Candlestick Park. The Cubs lost three runners on the bases to aid their losing effort. The finale of the four game set tomorrow afternoon.
June 27, 2024 at 5:30 am #257979Rats-I never liked that punk Council. Enjoy this time. They have a lot of talent. I assume they straighten it out eventually.
June 27, 2024 at 7:35 am #257987Here is a long list of all of our relievers who are rested and wouldn’t be pitching on back-to-back days:
Ryan Fernandez
Who is likely not available today:
Leahy
Liberatore
HelsleyI think they’d also strongly prefer not to throw Kittredge out there again. It’s going to be a short pen today.
June 27, 2024 at 7:38 am #257988Backing into post season will be fine with BillMo and will keep the loaded nachos munchers filing through the turnstiles.
June 27, 2024 at 7:53 am #257991Prefer not to use either, but I think JoJo and Kitty could be summoned in a pinch, Jnevel. And speaking of Kitty, I’m still anxiously awaiting for Kitty to have a nice little 2 year extension bestowed upon him. And then after Kitty hangs em up, maybe a coaching opportunity is dangled under his nose. I think a toast is in order for having Kitty in the Cardinal nest for many years to come……may each of us here this morning extend our coffee or orange juice cups skyward in honor of Kitty…..”to Kitty”.

Unfortunately, we are in a stretch where it seems likely to be a short pen every day. Libby helped us out with his game last night. Miles would really help us by going deep in this one. We will see how it goes. It would be great for the offense to bust it open early and for Mikolas to give us 7, even if that comes at the expense of 3 or 4 runs.
June 27, 2024 at 11:48 am #258007What to do tonight?
First we have the Reds and Redbirds. Then we have the 1st Presidential debate which will start around the 4th inning. Maybe we will luck out and the Redbirds will be way out in front of the Reds that we can switch over and watch Don and Joe.

June 27, 2024 at 12:01 pm #258008I’d try to find something wholesome like Macgyver or Hawaii-5-0 Rat.
June 27, 2024 at 12:05 pm #258010Two old men pizzin all over each other doesn’t really exited me. My wife will give me the blow by blow.
June 27, 2024 at 12:41 pm #258012The show Hawaii 5-0 sure brings back memories, Bling. When I was a kid, they had this one episode where they had to travel to Phoenix and it showed the city near sunset with the beautiful mountains in the background and it was at that moment where I thought to myself that if I were to graduate high school one day, that Phoenix, Arizona was the place I was going to head……and at age 19, I did for 18 years. Can’t wait to see Miles deal tonight as he’s been so efficient of late. And Gorman has to be ready to explode in this series. Do NOT lay down any cash on it, but let’s call it 6-4 Cards tonight with Stormin Gorman going downtown.
June 27, 2024 at 12:59 pm #258014Mikolas with a couple of good starts of late – hope he can do that tonight. It certainly would be nice to coast to say a 7-2 win, but our club never does that.
Pugs, you saved yourself some moola as a 19-year old going to Phoenix rather than Honolulu. I did something similar at 21 – growing up in Wyoming I got antsy to see the exciting city life. So that summer I got up the nerve to tell my parents I was dropping out of school at the U of Wyoming, and heading to LA. Had a buddy who had moved out there early in the year, and I worked all summer living at home to save for my own venture west.
Only stayed 2 years though, before coming back to the Rocky Mountain region.
June 27, 2024 at 2:10 pm #258017I bet those were 2 memorable years out there in LA, BicycleMike. Wyoming is certainly not a bad place to head back home to. It was said that most people that move out to Arizona at a young age from the Midwest, eventually return home. While at ASU, we had a group of 4 of us whom took monthly road trips, alternating mostly between LA and Vegas. We’d leave Tempe late Friday afternoons and go directly to the large pier in Huntington Beach for a late night swim. Then the next morning, which almost always was foggy, we’d head down the coast to hit the beach in Laguna Beach for the day and night…..back to baseball.
June 27, 2024 at 2:24 pm #258018Back to baseball, roger that.
Me and Whitey Herdog are about to sit down to our din-din today which will be a Hungry Mans Roasted Turkey TV dinner. Along with some Sun Chips and an ice cold slushy Mt. Dew and then a big bowl of Turkey Hill Vanilla Bean ice cream. We will begin this feast around the time of the first pitch from Candlestick Park as the Giants go for the four game sweep against the Cubs. After din-din is over a Palma Real cigar to carry us through the middle innings.
Then later tonight we will be back on the couch for the Reds and Redbirds. Probably sneak a few peaks in to see what Don and Joe have to say.

June 27, 2024 at 2:52 pm #258020Although it’s only Thursday, I enjoyed a catfish lunch platter at King Edward’s earlier this afternoon. Two searing hot fillets with french fried taters, fresh made cole slaw and creole style hush pups washed down with a tall iced tea garnished with plenty of lemon. Can’t hardly do better than King Eddie’s for catfish in StL. county.
June 27, 2024 at 3:11 pm #258022Din-din of the day for TD with the catfish culinary! And Rat’s din-din is nothing to sneeze at either. Hey Rat, I’ve always wondered if you mingle anything in with your Turkey Hill vanilla bean ice cream? With vanilla ice cream, I always load it up with Hershey chocolate syrup and Planter’s dry roasted peanuts. And every once in awhile I’ll toss in a couple of big scoops of Jiff peanut butter with vanilla ice cream. Go Cards.

Oops, another Giant miscue as I am typing the above. 3-0 Cubs now.
June 27, 2024 at 3:48 pm #258025Good stuff on our younger travels. Did-din here will be Mexican. We harvested some cilantro from the garden so will go the south of the border route this evening.
What a stupid lineup. You have your hottest hitter at 6, although the other hot hitter is at 2. I would have gone:
Winn
Donovan
Burleson
Goldschmidt
Arenado
Contreras
Carlson
Fermin
PagesGet those top three a chance at an extra AB……at least he got the last three right.
June 27, 2024 at 4:18 pm #258027The fact that the Reds are throwing a lefty tonight probably impacted our batting order but yes Donnie has been hot lately.
June 27, 2024 at 5:04 pm #258028Like some others have mentioned, I think it may have been a good idea to allow a couple of games to Contreras to get acclimated before slotting him in the most important position in the order. He’s 1 for 11 since returning, so hopefully he can get untracked in tonight’s game.
June 27, 2024 at 5:43 pm #258029Bad news from San Francisco.
Ian Happ’s two run dong in the top of the 10th gave the Cubs a 5-3 win today at Seals Stadium. They avoid the four game sweep. They now head to Milwaukee for a three game weekend series. They are now 10.5 games back. This weekend could put an end to the Cubs chances.

June 27, 2024 at 6:00 pm #258031Counsell plans to stay with Bernie Brewer over the weekend.
June 27, 2024 at 6:58 pm #258034Despite often times taking on the persona of a division composed of weak baseball teams, I just now happened to notice that no other division in the Big Leagues has a last place team with a W/L pct. as high as the last place .463 displayed by both the Reds and Cubs.
