The St. Louis Cardinals system was 2-2 on Tuesday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Peoria LH Quinn Mathews, went six scoreless innings on three hits and eight strikeouts. Other standouts include Jordan Walker, Adam Kloffenstein, Nick Raposo and Joshua Baez.

The Triple-A Redbirds beat the Tides in a 4-1 road win on Tuesday. Starter Adam Kloffenstein pitched five scoreless innings, allowed two hits, struck out six and walked three to earn his third win of the season.
Connor Thomas threw two scoreless innings of relief. Kolton Ingram hurled a scoreless eighth. Ryan Loutos surrendered one run in the ninth.

Memphis took the lead in the first inning on a solo home run by Jordan Walker. The Redbirds added a run in the fourth on a solo home run by Thomas Saggese.
In the top of the ninth, Jared Young singled and scored on a two-run home run by Nick Raposo to increase the Redbirds lead to 4-0. Norfolk finally answered in the home half of the ninth to end Memphis’ shutout bid.

The Redbirds offense scored four runs on nine hits. Walker was 3-for-5 with an RBI. Young was 2-for-4. Raposo plated two.
On defense, Walker had an outfield assist at second base.
With four straight wins, Memphis is 34-30, in fifth place in the International League West, 10 games back of Omaha.
Wednesday’s game: at Norfolk, Sem Robberse RHP (5-4, 4.46) vs. Justin Armbruester RHP (1-5, 10.40) 5:35 CT.
The Double-A Cardinals lost to the Naturals by the score of 7-4 at Hammons Field on Tuesday. Starter Steven Matz, on a rehab assignment from St. Louis, pitched 1 2/3 innings, gave up five unearned runs on three hits, struck out three and walked one. Matz took the loss.
Benito Garcia relieved Matz and threw a scoreless inning. Another St. Louis rehabber, Giovanny Gallegos, hurled 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Regular starter Edwin Nuñez surrendered two runs in four innings, from the fifth through eighth. Andrew Marrero tossed a scoreless ninth.
The Naturals took a 5-0 lead in the second inning, helped by a Jacob Buchberger error and two miscues by Matz. The Cardinals came back with three small ball runs in the fourth to cut the lead to 5-3. Mike Antico singled, stole second base and advanced to third on an error. Matt Lloyd plated Antico on a single. Noah Mendlinger singled. Jacob Buchberger walked. Chandler Redmond walked and Lloyd scored. Mendlinger came home on a wild pitch.

Springfield added a run in the fifth to shrink the lead further to 5-4. Bryan Torres doubled and later crossed the plate on a single by Jimmy Crooks.
NW Arkansas answered with two more runs in the sixth for a 7-4 lead.
The Cardinals scored four runs on 10 hits. Antico was 2-for-5. Mendlinger was 2-for-3.
On the bases, Antico stole his seventh base of the season. Buchberger was caught stealing.
Springfield is 33-25 on the season and is tied with Arkansas for first place in the Texas League North.
Wednesday’s game: vs. NW Arkansas, Cooper Hjerpe LHP (0-0. 0.00) vs. Noah Cameron LHP (2-2, 3.03) 11:15 am CT.
The High-A Chiefs defeated the Cubs by three runs at Dozer Park on Tuesday. Starter Quinn Mathews pitched six scoreless innings, allowed three hits, struck out eight and walked one to earn his second win in Peoria.

Newcomer Osvaldo Berrios relieved Mathews and surrendered two runs, one earned in two innings. Tanner Jacobson tossed a scoreless ninth to earn his second save.
Peoria put up two runs in the second inning. Dakota Harris doubled and stole third base. Joshua Baez followed with a two-run home run.

The Chiefs made it 3-0 in the sixth on a solo home run by Harris. The Cubs finally scored in the top of the eighth to cut the lead to 3-2.

Peoria came back with two runs in the home eighth to increase the lead to 5-2. Baez singled and scored on a triple by Zach Levenson. Levenson came home on a sac fly by Alex Iadisernia.
The Chiefs offense scored five runs on eight hits. Baez was 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Harris was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
On the bases, Harris stole his third base of the season. Michael Curialle swiped his second bag.
On defense, Harris made two errors, one fielding and one throwing.
Peoria is 21-37 on the season and is in last place in the Midwest League West, 16 games back of Wisconsin.

Palm Beach at Daytona (postponed)
The Beach Birds’ series-opening road game was postponed due to wet grounds in Daytona Beach. It will be made up on Wednesday, June 12 as part of a doubleheader.

FCL Cardinals vs. FCL Astros (postponed)
Tuesday’s rookie level game was postponed due to inclement weather in Jupiter. It will be made up on Thursday, June 20.

DSL Cardinals 4, DSL Mariners 5
The Dominican Summer League Cardinals lost to the Mariners by one run on Tuesday. Starter Jefferson Moran pitched four innings, gave up two runs on five hits, struck out seven and walked one.
Giovanni Vargas relieved Moran and threw one scoreless inning. Brailyn Paulino surrendered two runs in 1 1/3 innings. Jose Suriel yielded one unearned run in two innings pitched and took the loss. Bernard Mack tossed the final 2/3 of a scoreless inning.
The Mariners took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. The Cardinals responded with two runs in the third to lead 2-1. Yairo Padilla drew a walk. Facundo Velasquez plated Padilla on a triple. Velasquez came home on a sac fly by Rainiel Rodriguez.
The Mariners came back to tie the game in the fourth and recaptured the lead at 4-2 in the top of the seventh.
In the home seventh, the Cardinals put up two runs to re-tie the game at 4-4. Brayan Amoroso drew a walk. Padilla singled. Velasquez was hit by a pitch. Rodriguez grounded into a force out and Amoroso scored, Padilla advanced to third and Velasquez was out at second. Padilla came home on a single by Bracewell Taveras.
The Mariners scored one run in the top of the ninth to take the final 5-4 lead. The Cardinals could not answer.
The offense scored four runs on six hits. Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Padilla was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
On the bases, Padilla stole his second base of the season. On defense, shortstop Padilla made two throwing errors. Mack picked a runner off first base.
The Cardinals are 2-3 on the season.
Wednesday’s game: vs. DSL Tigers 2, TBD vs. TBD 10:00 am CT (makeup of June 3 game).
