Arenado and Goldschmidt were 0-8 in the Sunday game against the Mets.

    Are they washed up?

Are they playing themselves out of St. Louis at the deadline?

What in the world is wrong with them? Sub par years last year and on pace for even worse years this year. Yes, I know it’s still April but does anybody see any signs of them being able to do anything offensively???

Are they playing themselves out of St. Louis at the deadline?

They would have to be playing well enough for somebody to trade for them at the deadline.

So, no, they are not playing themselves out of St. Louis at the deadline.

And our old oft-injured buddy Tyler O’Neill just walked off the Red Sox over the Cubs with a rbi single in the last of the 9th on Sunday night. 5-4 Boston the final.

And our old buddy Harry Bader tormented us today with a two strike rbi single to center to tie the game.

Funny how our old players just keep coming through but none of our current $30,000,000 a year players seem to be able to.

So….every other year the team comes to Detroit, so you all get the honor of potentially seeing little old thejager on TV. I treat myself to the series and get front row behind the plate tickets. I “think” i will be on screen, but you never know. It may be poor weather, so you may only get a a Cardinals cap represent. Tuesday game i will probably have a jersey on though. 🙂

BTW weather is looking a little iffy tonight for this game folks. I live about 1 mile from the field. Rain looks to start before game time and be a bit nasty, leading to prolonged raining. I am no meteorologist obv. so i am sure it can all change

I am wondering if they will get it in, maybe a double header tomorrow.

    Anyways

    Go Cards!

Maeda vs Matz isn’t exactly Gibson vs Koufax , now is it?

Hopefully we get this one in and see you, jags!

If we do play I am predicting a loss – Matz does not communicate “confidence.” And Detroit is pretty good; a younger club on the rise.

As for O’Neill, I kept thinking every year would be the one he puts it together and is an MVP candidate. He finally did it 2021 and I pegged him as the MVP for 2022. Alas he just never got untracked here. I wonder if Shildt had been retained if maybe Ty would have had it better here. Probably not as the injuries were always the bug-a-boo, but Marmol does not strike me as a stronger leader who inspires people.

Ty did get the game winning single last night, but it was a high pop-up that Swanson ran out on and almost had. It hit his mitt but he had his back to the infield and was sort of twisted around and could not make the catch. Not much of a hit but it beat the Cubs so we are happy.

Yeah, but despite ripping 9 taters so far, he’s only collected 13 RBI’s which is one less RBI than Redbird slugger Brendan Donovan…At any rate, Red Sox media and fans seem to think Johnny and the Cardinals hoodwinked them out of Nick Robertson and Victor Santos.

I think O’Neill is another player whose game is at philosophical differences with the Cardinals.

He strikes out too much for the Cardinals. He frequently got benched because of them. He also has an extensive injury history.

Boston doesn’t seem to have the aversion to strikeouts the Cardinals do. I think better environment + health are leading to his performance so far this year.

I do not think he would be having the same performance in a Cardinal uniform.

I can’t really recall O’Neill ever being placed on the bench as a result of his propensity to K. He simply seemed to be perpetually skint-up and sitting on the IL. As for “philosophical differences” I’d say that an abundance of K’s falls right in line with “The Cardinal Way” as of late. He fit in pretty well with that particular Redbird philosophical trend. I mean, it’s all about launch and lift, right?

The Doppler Radar looks questionable for Detroit at game time. The green stuff might be just west of metro Detroit and this game could be played with no delays. Or, come game time, it could be pouring at Tiger Stadium. I guess time will tell. It’s going to be close.

Din-din today was a Hungry Man’s Turkey dinner along with an ice cold slushy Mt. Dew. And then a big bowl of Turkey Hill Vanilla Bean ice cream.

Me and Whitey Herdog will be tuning in as we sit on the couch tonight. Along with a 7×50 Palma Real Presidente cigar. I just got three new bundles of the cigars so I am good to go for awhile. Then later tonight it will be the Reds game out west at San Diego. And if that’s a blowout I can tune in to the Dodgers at Arizona game.

p.s. the over/under tonight for Arenado AND Goldschmidt is 1.5 for them getting hits. You got the over or under? I will take the under. That means they both have to get a hit, or one of them gets two hits.

Anybody notice that teams are starting to pitch Winn up in the zone? Just like they did Vic Scott? They want them to hit the ball in the air to negate their speed. And, of course, both Winn and Scott are swinging at those high pitches. And yes, I do realize that some of those high pitches are strikes.

When they do he sees and hits it well. He leads this team in hitting at a .311 clip and is second to only Contreras in OBP at .384…The only thing wrong with Winn is that he’s liable to hurt Goldschmidt with a rifle shot from the left side of the IF…I’d also have to say that comparing Scott with Winn in the batter’s box is not unlike comparing a 4th grade school girl with a 27 year old centerfold model…

rats, let’s look at recent numbers. In the last six games, Winn is 5-for-18 (.278) including two doubles. He also drew three walks for an OBP of .381 (compared to his .384 mark for the year). In that period, he struck out six times, including three on Sunday, which suggests you may be dealing with recency bias.

I can’t speak for you, but if Winn maintained a .381 OBP over the long haul, I would be delighted and I bet the Cards would be, too. There are about 10 hitters on this team I’d be more concerned about than Winn right now. At .808, he has the second highest OPS on the team (after Contreras) with Arenado the next closest, a long way away, at .683.

As long as he brings his A-Game mitt to the SS position they’ll be delighted if he maintains .250/.330.

    Well phooey!

It’s also raining here in SW Indiana. I was looking forward to watching this one since there’s nothing else to do. I guess I can watch the Cubs/Mets game from Shea Stadium and have a cigar. Yep, that’s what I will do.

p.s. I wasn’t ragging on Winn. I was just pointing out teams are pitching him up in the zone. Just like they did Scott.

Well, the difference appears to be that Winn is handing the pitching up compared to Scott who did not.

    Alright, two for Tuesday.

In my on again, off again between retirement and working, I am heading back into the office tomorrow. The company I have contracted with since June 2021 hired a new guy, and asked if I would do some onboarding with him. For those of you not familiar with the term “onboarding”, it is basically the modern corporate buzz word for “training”. Kind of like the “Personnel” department became “Human Resources” back in the ‘90s sometime, now new hire training is “onboarding”.

So I won’t see the afternoon tilt. Should be good to go for the evening shift though. Not sure on din-din. The formerly knock out gorgeous and still good looking Lady Bike has several options in the fridge and we will pick what we have a hankering for each evening.
