I don’t understand pitching Mikolas here unless somehow the Red’s fate has not been decided.

If it’s all over with, just let this be a bullpen game and eliminate any chance that Mikolas arm falls off….

Mikolas wants to get to 200 innings pitched for the year. He is currently at 194.1.

Looking at it in terms of ‘innings depth’: Mikolas already has 34 starts, which I think is a league leading number. I like a guy who answers the bell. 194 IP comes to 5.7 per start. That’s a little light for your #1, who needs to be the guy who gives the pen a break. It would be fine for your #3, so I don’t fault him for being a #3 on a team with no #1 or 2. Went 6 or more 20 out of 34. If we could get that from our 3rd best guy next year it would work.

    Here we go.

    Game #162.

Hard to believe the season is over.

2024 will be here before you know it.

No more din-dins for awhile after today.

Should be an interesting off-season for the Redbirds.

Happy to see that neither the Cubs nor the Reds made the post season.

The final game of the year is always a bit emotional, just as opening day is. While this season may not have gone as we had all hoped, there’s still baseball to be played one more time before the magic of the playoffs and the long wait for the GM meetings, free agent bonanza, winter warmup and finally, opening day. There’s a rhythm to the game of baseball and it’s about to be shaken up for 4-6 months, and that’s a little sad. We are used to playing a bit longer than this, but with some significant revamping it should be possible to be back in the playoffs next year. Go Cards!

Barely being over .500 is all it takes to be in the WC race to the end.

I would love to see WC 3 at least go away and really WC 2.

The occasional season when a 2nd place team wins 95+ games and then having 4 teams from each league get in makes WC 1 tolerable and ok in my book.

Even better would be to have 4, four team divisions in each league with only the division winners advancing. Add 2 more franchises to get to 32 total and boom!

Pitchers and Catchers always report to ST in mid February, which is 4 1/2 months away. Last year I think it was the 15th. I have probably managed to stay married for 40+ years because of the happy coincidence that report day approaching always reminds me about Valentine’s day coming up.

2024 will be here before you know it.

Let’s see there’s October-November-December-the snows of January, February and March. April 1st is six months away. That doesn’t sound like “before you know it”. Rats…. if you feel that way good for you…. me…. I dread the long hot stove season.:(

I’m not too confident that Mo will help.

ZTR, additional playoff teams mean additional $$$ for MLB. They aren’t going back.

Guessing Mikolas has some contract incentives for 200 innings, maybe starts as well. Otherwise is it kind of dumb to have him throw today.

Mikolas grooved that 2-0 pitch. That is the pitch that Masyn Winn has let go a few too many times from my observation. The 2-0 and 3-1 are pitches as a hitter you need to be ready to jump on.

Is “Nick Martini” the Sheldon Leonard character’s name in “It’s A Wonderful Life”?

Like the way Richie Palacios hits the ball. Hope he gets a legitimate look in the Spring. Could be one of those surprise players ala Lars Nootbaar.

Here in the second Knizner up with the tying run on second and nobody out. On gameday I can’t tell if he’s trying to bunt. Is he trying to bunt the guy to third?

And then Lopez with a sac fly to bring him in. Some of these guys have not been around here long enough to forget how to play this game. If they are, they will get their swing optimized.

Tuned in only for the reason that I can’t recall not watching at least part of a last Cardinal game of the baseball season. As disappointing as this one’s been, like always I’ll miss baseball over the winter months. Seems like it was April just a minute or two ago. Oh well, can’t win ’em all. At least it’s time for some play-off action. Hope to see some of the gang on the post-season game threads.

Rats mentioned that there’d be, “No din-dins for awhile after today”…I hope he doesn’t plan on going a full six months without supper! If so, he may lose a lot of weight…On second thought, as much food as he devours during the season at his favorite Amish restaurant, he can probably go all winter without any food at all and simply hibernate like one of those Grizzly bears…Haha!

I checked in on gameday and was looking at the lineup when it hit me. It was seeing Walker 3rd and Baker 4th. I imagined them manning the corner infield next year. Mo could get two nice starters for Goldy and NA money. He could get another one for Contreras money. And some real relif pitchers for Wainwright money. All without costing Bill anything. Maybe then Bill could spring some payroll increase money for a bat. Something nice to sit in that corner that looks so empty without the bronze bust. Or maybe not. But the possibilities are endless.
