This series has meaning to one of the teams.

I see the Cardinals have put 2024 season tickets on sale. I wonder if the fans are rushing to scoop them up.

I hope we can crush the Reds playoff hopes. I also hope the Marlins gets in over the Cubs.

Personally, I think we have too many wildcard teams now. Why play a 162 game season and still have basically .500 teams ‘in the hunt’?

If you win your division – fair enough – but otherwise I say no.

Since this game is meaningful to the Reds, in order to ‘respect the integrity of the game’, I wonder if Marmol will throw the best lineup he can put out there?

I’ll be curious to see if we actually try at least until the Reds are eliminated…

With so many on the IL or worn out or stinking lately maybe we’ve been seeing the best lineup.

Z: I agree with you 100 percent. Too many teams clogging up these “playoffs” making them devoid of meaning.

If the Cardinals are not in it, I simply don’t care about the outcome.

Let’s cut back to two leagues with two divisions playing for the pennant, then winners on to the world series.

Or, as Madame CiF keeps asking, “Why do they call it the world series when only American teams are in it?”

Somebody explain this to me. The Marlins and Mets game last night got hit by rain in the top of the 9th. The Marlins were leading 2-1. The game could not be continued. I see now it’s a suspended game.

So, since the game was rained out and it was official why isn’t Miami declared the 2-1 winner?

I was wondering the same thing Rat. I guess since that game has such high playoff implications (especially for the Cubs) they decided that they have to finish the game. It will be finished on Monday if necessary. The Marlins have a 1/2 game lead on the Cubs for the last wild card spot and own the tiebreaker. Go Fish.

As to the season tickets, a lot of that is companies. I would expect they will hang in there.

Apparently there is some rule when a team scores in the top of the inning to take the lead the other team must have their atbat in the bottom of the inning.

I guess it really doesn’t matter if it has playoff implications or not.

Din-din today was a trip out to Lakeview, the Amish restaurant north of town that sits on the lake. Catfish fiddlers, meatloaf, mashed potatoes/gravy, grean beans, noodles, dressing, sweet tea, a piece of Red Velvet cake and some vanilla soft serve ice cream.

Then tonight it’s the Castle Knights at the Jasper Wildcats. Castle comes in 3-3 and Jasper is 4-2. I am going to call this one 28-14 in favor of the Wildcats of Jasper High School.

Kind of a silly lineup. I know we are down for the count but I would have gone:

    Edman
    Nootbaar
    Goldschmidt
    Baker
    Walker
    Palacios
    Knizner
    Fermin
    Winn

Could flip the last two and it would be no big deal.

Woody had the batter in the hole 1-2 with two on and two out and gives up a homer. Why even throw it over the plate in that situation. You basically have a free chance to let him get himself out. If he doesn’t bite, its a 2-2 count. Given the wretched pitching we’ve had all year, some of it might be that they are just not smart enough. It sure seems like it.

This team is pitiful! When we used to play the Redsv I always thought of them as a rag tag AAA team! Now that is us! So sad we fallen this far and that all those resposible for this fall will be back in their positions next year like this didn’t happen!

Well….hell. To be expected I guess but with the Reds still in the mix for a WC spot I thought we’d at least put up a fight, lol.

Remember when everyone was convinced that Woodford was a cure for the rotation if he only got his chance? That seems like forever ago.

One of the homers in the second was on a 1-2 count just like the one in the first. Incredible.

    Cardinals need the Mercy Rule.

    This is embarrassing.

That seems like overstating the matter. As I recall, when the team was struggling and failing to find 5 competent starters, some, including me, couldn’t understand why Woodford didn’t get a fair chance. As it turns out, he has done nothing but disappoint with the chances he has gotten.

Bling – last year, everyone was upset that they kept demoting/barely using Woodford, because when he was up, he pitched exceptionally well – 2.23 ERA in 48.1 innings.

    This year, Woodford is atrocious.

Well dang-o. Mrs BikeMike and I were out looking at kitchen countertops and cabinets as we are going to remodel. Thought I would check the score and see that it is way out of hand.

Was hoping for a nice outing from Woody to finish up 2023 and have some confidence going into next Spring as a candidate for the rotation. As former Fleetwood Mac original member Peter Green would say, “Oh Well”.

LA, that’s what I mean. He pitched well in 2022 and they only gave him one start the whole year. Before we picked up Monty and Q we were hurting for starting pitching. Packy got 3 starts for goodness sake. Well, he got his chance this year and went up in flames.
