5:35 p.m.
RHP Adam Wainwright (3-11, 8.19) vs. LHP John Means (2023 Debut)
BSM // KMOX
(and Bally Sports Southeast/Southwest Extra)September 12, 2023 at 8:43 am #233725Wonder if Flaherty will get a start against his old mates?
September 12, 2023 at 8:44 am #233726At this point, pitching Wainwright qualifies as making a mockery of the game.
September 12, 2023 at 9:00 am #233730Flaherty is not scheduled to start this series.
September 12, 2023 at 9:36 am #233733Apparently the decision has been made to let Waino ride that bronc until either him or that hoss drops.
September 12, 2023 at 9:40 am #233734Just looked up Flaherty for the Orioles. 6 starts and an ERA over 7.
His career may be pretty much done. He’d better have a backup plan unless he’s saved every penny…
September 12, 2023 at 10:00 am #233735For home games, they will sell more tickets when Waino is going for 199 (and 200) than if Joe Prospect was starting. At this point, winning the games and preparing for the future are secondary to $ and ensuring they don’t disrespect a team legend.
Stealing an old line, they will finish in last place with him or without him…
September 12, 2023 at 10:10 am #233736Wainwright OPS against by month:
May .919
June 1.059
July .955
August 1.053
Sept (one start) 1.233To help put that into context, Shohei Ohtani is the MLB OPS leader this season at 1.066. When I think about Ohtani-level results on average from every hitter Wainwright faces, I am surprised his ERA is so “low”.
September 12, 2023 at 10:57 am #233737The only way Wainwright gets to 200 wins is if they “Manufacture” two wins for him. And time is running out for that as well. They have a BIG lead in the 4th so they bring Waino in for a couple of innings and he qualifies for the win.
Then again, time is running out period……
September 12, 2023 at 1:37 pm #233743After all Waino has done for the club, at this point they sort of owe it to him to see if somehow he can get a couple more Ws. But if we were a contenda and he had those same numbers, all sentiment would be out the window.

jj-cf-stlParticipantHe didn’t find his pitches down until Santander, but located well after.
September 12, 2023 at 6:01 pm #233758Gorman out of the game. Possibly did something to his sore back running to 1st
September 12, 2023 at 6:03 pm #233759
jj-cf-stlParticipantContreras with a nice 2nd half. Playing hard.
September 12, 2023 at 6:03 pm #233760Palacios in to run for Gorman, so I assume Edman will move to 2B. Walker with a sac fly RBI.
September 12, 2023 at 6:05 pm #233761Contreras has sure surprised me with his second half.
September 12, 2023 at 6:08 pm #233763
jj-cf-stlParticipantPalacios reminds me of Jon Jay. Plays a clean game, doesn’t find ways to fail.
September 12, 2023 at 6:14 pm #233764
jj-cf-stlParticipantHe’s locating where he needs to be. Avoid the mistakes, see where this goes.
September 12, 2023 at 6:29 pm #233765
jj-cf-stlParticipantGot some D support, found a curveball…
September 12, 2023 at 6:42 pm #233766
jj-cf-stlParticipantNoot deep in the strike zone, he may catch one right.
September 12, 2023 at 6:55 pm #233767
jj-cf-stlParticipantFound a cutter too, and a timely ground ball. Picked up his D, he and Edman. He’s settled in. Gimme two more
September 12, 2023 at 6:55 pm #233768Does Wainwright have 1 more inning in him?
September 12, 2023 at 7:01 pm #233769
jj-cf-stlParticipantManage the damage. Let him be Oli
September 12, 2023 at 7:03 pm #233770
jj-cf-stlParticipantmistake, get Frazier
September 12, 2023 at 7:05 pm #233771
jj-cf-stlParticipantYes!
