LHP Miles Mikolas (7-10, 4.63) vs. RHP Hunter Greene (3-6, 4.75)
ESPN+ // BSM // KMOX
(and Bally Sports South/Southwest Extra)September 10, 2023 at 8:35 am #233597Mikolas could use a good, clean start. It’s been pretty rough with him lately.
September 10, 2023 at 8:45 am #233598Agreed ZTR. It seems possible Miles is wearing down toward the end of the season. If so, it is something that would factor in if we are ‘competative’ next year. I hope he gets a second wind.

jj-cf-stlParticipant20 outs, 3 ER vs ATL. Keep it up!
September 10, 2023 at 10:05 am #233609Day game today so I’ll get to watch it in real time. Soon as I’ve finished tucking into a din-din of roast beef and Yorkshire pudding with baked potatoes, carrots and a salad, I’ll probably bring my apple crisp dessert into my library to enjoy in front of the screen. Our birds have provided some fun baseball on this road trip. Rah Cardinals!

SS Masyn Winn RSeptember 10, 2023 at 12:39 pm #233615We’ve been winning the last game of the series lately. Maybe we can do it again today. I see Goldys sitting today. Went 0fer yesterday. Seems like when any of our guys are out any legnth of time it takes em 2 weeks to be able to hit a ball again.
September 10, 2023 at 1:36 pm #233620What? No hits through three innings. Off with their heads.
September 10, 2023 at 2:40 pm #233623So far, Winn has not been terribly impressive. I know, I know, he’s young, inexperienced, etc. etc.

ParticipantThrough 7 and down 6-1. Oh well off to BAL.
September 10, 2023 at 2:49 pm #233625Beer league lineup with Baker and Burleson. Mail it in Marmol is at it again. 1 hit today so far.
Winn needs a day off.
Where is Palacios
September 10, 2023 at 3:27 pm #233626We got one hit. They should be running the stairs for a couple hours.
I think we should be concerned about Mikolas.
September 10, 2023 at 4:55 pm #233629Yeah on Mikolas.
Other than he’s already ‘under control’ why are we happy to have him as one of our starting 5 next year?
September 10, 2023 at 6:17 pm #233630He only gives up one run an inning.
September 10, 2023 at 6:56 pm #233632Mikolos has been good enough in the past, but he just turned 35 and it would not be shocking if he is running out of gas. Counting on him to hold down a mid rotation spot, or any rotation spot, all year would not be a smart bet. It is unfortunate that guys like Graceffo and McGreevy, who were pencilled in for 2024, aren’t rounding into what we will be needing to replace Wainwright, Monty and probably Mikolos. Its also unfortunate that Liby and Thompson seem marginal.
September 10, 2023 at 8:50 pm #233639He’s thrown a lot of innings this year. Maybe he is running on empty. Maybe the defense hasn’t been as good in the past and that has lead to more runs being scored on him. The shift has been abolished He has given up a lot of hits in the past.
I wouldn’t just write him off yet. He may be a 4.50 ERA guy moving forward with 170-180 inning pitched.

So, Jake Westbrook.
September 11, 2023 at 4:51 am #233643What to do with Mikolas next year very much depends on the three wonderful new starting pitchers Mo has promised us.
September 11, 2023 at 5:25 am #233644We will get “three wonderful new starting pitchers” in the same way that payroll went up.

I would rather him simply waste Bill’s money on second tier fa’s than to waste our upcoming high draft choices and trading our young core talent. How many teams have we seen fail with this strategy the Cardinals are talking about? He did right at the trade deadline. Continue down that path. At least that way there’s hope beyond 2024.
September 11, 2023 at 6:06 am #233646I still believe that the World Baseball Classic had a lot to do with the dismal showing of our pitching staff and the underperformance of many of our start players. This year we had more of our top-tier players spread across the world participating in this “tournament” than ever before and, therefore, not experiencing their normal Spring Training regimen. THe classic is a very high-intensity, lay-it-all-on-the line tournament held in a short amount of days. It is very taxing, not to mention the players are under different styles of managers and practices. You can’t tell me that it did not take some kind of toll on the players, both physically and mentally!
While I am disappointed in the level of play our Cardinals have provided this year, I also don’t kid myself into thinking that I can manage or play at the level these guys are expected to day-in and day-out. How many of you that are on here bashing a player or a pitcher every time they “fail” never fails at your daily job! Or for that matter how many of you ever put on a MLB uniform and hit or pitched. If you have, I value your input but if not then everything you say is just the opinion of another armchair quarterback.
Be passionate about your team but don’t be mean or disrespectful to the players who are doing something that we will only dream about doing!
September 11, 2023 at 7:34 am #233653TNR, I think that the WBC along with the new pitching and hitting coaches and replacing Yadi with a guy from outside the organization all combined to the horrible first half.
September 11, 2023 at 12:22 pm #233670Tnr I agree that it’s not necessary to name call. And there’s no need to pound away at the mistakes and weaknesses that exist. And no, there’s none of us doing this professionally. But there’s plenty whom have watched a lot of ball and are educated enough to have informed opinions that have some degree of accuracy. It’s false to say that just because you don’t have one of those dream jobs, that your views and opinions don’t matter.
September 11, 2023 at 12:40 pm #233671They have a talent and they get obscene money for that. Name calling not good holding them accountable for subpar performance absolutely.
