6:20 p.m.
RH Dakota Hudson (5-1, 4.02) vs. RH Spencer Strider (16-4, 3.56)
BSM // KMOX
(and Bally Sports South Extra (Kentucky)/Southwest Extra)September 6, 2023 at 1:37 pm #233282This one could get ugly although Dak has thrown the ball fairly well. Like all pitchers, when his command is there he is tough, and that sinker is a great weapon. When he cannot hit the strike zone though, it gets brutal.
September 6, 2023 at 1:59 pm #233284Dakota is a much cooler name than Spencer.
September 6, 2023 at 2:09 pm #233285Like you pointed out, what makes watching Hudson work that’s so frustrating is that when the command of his sinker is even marginal he can string together and record outs with remarkable efficiency. I’ve watched him work countless times when he’ll breeze through an inning without having to offer up more than 8 to 10 pitches only to follow up with an inning that is as slow and painful as anything ever conceived by the architects of the Spanish Inquisition.
September 6, 2023 at 2:12 pm #233286Yeah, and “Dak” sounds really cool, but I think “Dax” would be even cooler. At any rate, I still say we need a Manny…
September 6, 2023 at 2:16 pm #233287But that Spencer dude uncool name and all can really strike a bunch of guys quickly. 245 in 159.1 innings.
September 6, 2023 at 2:44 pm #233288K’s are good and all, but they’ll never supercede a really kool name.

jj-cf-stlParticipantHere’s a true test of who can have success vs an elite K pitcher.
O’Neill not starting surprises me, unless he has an ouchie, which would be his norm.
September 6, 2023 at 4:56 pm #233297JJ – No one wants to see O’Neill strike out in every at bat against Strider.
September 6, 2023 at 4:57 pm #233298I’m a fortune telling gypsy who forsees Gorman winning the battle and placing two more taters in his season HR column tonight…Haha!
September 6, 2023 at 5:06 pm #233299I’ll take two taters and two Ks from Gordon.
September 6, 2023 at 6:57 pm #233301If the pitch location feature on ESPN Gamecast is accurate, Winn got a center cut fastball on a 1-2 count and fouled it off. Then went on the strike out with Edman on 2nd and nobody out. He has to at least advance the runner over to third with less than two outs. If he doesn’t yet have the bat skills to put it in play to the right side, then he should bunt. He has done exactly this same thing before. Its infuriating that a young player is not versed in the fundamentals of winning baseball.
September 6, 2023 at 7:11 pm #233302Lets see how Winn does here with two outs in the third. Runners on 1st and second.
Strider lifted, pen guy in.
September 6, 2023 at 7:20 pm #233303Struck out again. Looked at two 94 MPH sinkers, one of them in his wheelhouse. Then swung and missed on a 78 MPH pitch. Probably screwed himself into the ground. Welcome to the show sonny.

jj-cf-stlParticipantIf you had questions about our lineup….
September 6, 2023 at 7:28 pm #233353I wonder what will be left of it on opening day.
September 6, 2023 at 7:34 pm #233354
jj-cf-stlParticipantExactly.
September 6, 2023 at 8:05 pm #233355Just one question ladies and germs – what is wrong with the Cardinals? They have either stumbled on some impressive PEDs, or are using the Astros electronic sign stealing contraption.
September 6, 2023 at 8:12 pm #233357
jj-cf-stlParticipantTonight will be the 29th time that the lineup has scored at least 7 runs or more.
September 6, 2023 at 8:15 pm #233358
jj-cf-stlParticipant6 runs or more? Low 40’s. Sometimes it hard to believe this season.
September 6, 2023 at 8:28 pm #233359Hudson can look good, but he needs to regularly go 6 or better.
September 6, 2023 at 8:40 pm #233360Four SB’s for the Cardinals tonight. I would have liked to have see them do more running earlier in the season and had expected them to do so. I’ve also noticed that the hit and run seems as though it has fallen victim to the same rule changes that have rendered the IF shift a thing of the past. I just never see it anymore. At any rate, I like to see a team put pressure on the opposing defense with some sort of a running game. I don’t even mind seeing SB attempts when down by a couple of runs prior to the late innings.
September 6, 2023 at 8:46 pm #233361Cardinals starting to look like themselves as the lead has shrunk to 2. I think we have a good chance to end up putting this one in the “L” column, with a 9-8 finale in favor of the high riding home ball club, and the world will make sense again.
