Watubi nailed a two run homer in the 1st in the afternoon game of the Wednesday DH against the Reds. Then, after not pitching for ten days, has to come out in the 2nd inning after 26 pitches. The reason given was arm fatigue.

Issues like this might keep him from getting that 10 year, $500,000,000 contract this off-season.

Saw a blurb somewhere that Mikolas has been just awful for the last month+.

My theory is Mikolas is 35 now so getting worn down late in the year could happen, like it did to Wainwright last year. The concern is that he will stay worn down, like Wainwright has. It is true that 35 is not 41, but Mikolas is not Wainwright either.

I happened to notice that Mikolas leads the NL in GS’s with 27 and and hits allowed with 167. It’s the only two categories out of about 35 columns in which a Redbird pitcher’s name appears in the top 10. Other than the Cardinal W/L record, I think that’s the foremost picture book illustration of the entire season.

On paper Phillies should handle the Cardinals so…… Cards will probably win this series.

Anyone think Palacios will be on the 2024 big league roster?

It depends on who gets traded. We will need CF coverage. Right now, besides Noot, we have Edman, Carlson and O’Neal, so Palacios is AAA depth filling in due to injuries.

He certainly could be on the roster. Our OF is a jumbled mess and no one really knows who will still be on the roster once spring training rolls around. Noot is probably the only one close to a sure bet to be here.

Just last year with Cleveland, Palacios had 123 plate appearances and registered a .588 OPS. That is probably a good indication why he was DFAed and made available to the Cardinals for cash this summer.

He has been very hot in his first 19 PAs with St. Louis, but at age 26, he probably is what he is. Good to have depth guys to fill in when needed.

I agree with Brian on this one. Palacios is almost surely better than the .588 OPS he put up in Cleveland. But it’s not like he’s going to jump to .750 or .800. I think .700 is about the best OPS we could expect over a longer period. The fact that he plays everywhere pretty well makes him a valuable reserve to have in Memphis to call up in case of injury or potentially to have him as the final player on the MLB bench. I am positive on keeping him around because this sort of player is valuable to have around. Just don’t get too excited by a handful of at bats. Carlson or Edman would be preferable CF candidates to start.

Why don’t people say this about O’Neill and keep thinking there’s more?
Carpenter was 26 when he finally got a chance, how old was Jose Bautista, Skip was 27. Odds are against him, but maybe there’s something.

O’Neill’s situation is different. He has done it before, but it was only one season that is getting to be a long time ago.

Cards667 – because O’Neill put together one really good year in 2021.

blingboy – Verhagen on the bereavement list? The WHOLE team should be on the bereavement list!

Quite a game last night down in the desert. Arizona wins over Cincinnati 3-2. Corbin Carroll a two run homer in the last of the 8th the difference.

The Redbird manager’s getting Manny tuned up for that September run…It won’t be long now!

Maybe the most important thing about this game is how Mikolas does.

Hopefully Gorman will get in the game once their lefty starter is out. Motter will have ravaged them with his prowess by then and will be deserving of taking a seat.

Hancel Rincon is flirting with a sub 3.00 ERA as a starter at Palm Beach. He’s on the mound right now with 4 innings and 1 hit so far today. 116 innings on the year. He’s been one of my favorite underrated players the last couple years. 21 years old out of the Dominican. The Cards are going to have to start moving him up the ladder though if he’s ever going to get a chance before he becomes a minor league free agent (I think he has just 2 seasons left to get there after this one).

I don’t at all expect the lefty Sanchez to work to Manny, but if he’s foolish enough to pitch to him and not take his chances with Winn, I’m all but entirely certain we’ll see that Manny Motter type .227 SLG spike during tonight’s game. I may need a calculator to tally up the TB’s.

Rincon finished with 6 innings, 3 hits, no walks, no runs, and 8 strikeouts.

Its good to see Rincon striking out some guys. I have been thinking his rather pedestrian K/9 over 100+ innings at Palm Beach might be what’s held him back. Especially now, with swing and miss being in style.

O’Neill fails to advance Edman, who led off with a double. Why he is batting second I don’t know.

Mikolas got a lead in the 1st and gave up the lead in the second.

Nobodys advancing anybody since the Goldy bomb. Can’t get 2 hits in a row. Walkers been all over right field without snagging one yet. Nado left a hole on the third base line big enough to drive a big rig thru. Phillie pounced on it to score multiple runs. Good defense?
