The St. Louis Cardinals system went 2-4 on Saturday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Lizandro Espinoza, went 4-for-5 including two doubles, an RBI and two runs for Palm Beach. Other standouts include Nick Dunn, Thomas Saggese, Jimmy Crooks and William Sullivan.

The Memphis Redbirds (17-21) were defeated by the Durham Bulls (TB, 22-16) on Saturday night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
In his second Memphis start, Sem Robberse gave up one run in four innings on four hits and three walks. TCN’s no. 13 prospect struck out six. The Redbirds tied the game in the fourth inning as Juan Yepez grounded into a forceout to score Masyn Winn.
In relief, Kyle Leahy struggled, yielding five runs in one inning on five hits, a walk and two punchouts. The right-hander took his fourth loss. Grant Black surrendered four runs in 2 1/3 frames on five hits and two walks. The 29-year-old struck out four. To close out the final 2/3 of an inning, Chris Roycroft had a scoreless outing.

DH Iván Herrera went 3-for-4, all singles. César Prieto and Tres Barrera both singled twice. Dunn recorded a double and a home run. The lineup left eight runners on base.
In the field, Barrera and Dunn both committed an error.
Sunday’s game: at Durham, RHP Michael McGreevy (7-3, 4.32) vs. TBA 4:05 CT
The Springfield Cardinals (20-18) edged the San Antonio Missions (SD, 18-20) at Hammons Field.
Alex Cornwell earned his first Double-A win after he was charged with two runs in 5 1/3 innings. TCN’s no. 40 prospect yielded six hits, two walks and two strikeouts. Matt Svanson surrendered two runs in 2/3 of an inning.
After the Missions scored twice in the first, Springfield answered with five from the third through fifth innings. Arquímedes Gamboa tied the game with a triple in the third and Noah Mendlinger singled to bring him home. In the fourth, Aaron Antonini scored one with a sac bunt. Thomas Saggese blasted a solo homer in the fifth, his fourth with the Cardinals and 19th of the season.

Nick Trogrlic-Iverson tossed a scoreless 1 1/3 innings with two strikeouts. To close out the game, Andre Granillo saved his Texas League leading 14th game with 1 2/3 hitless frames with two punchouts.
Saggese went 2-for-3 with a home run and one walk. Gamboa had the only other extra-base hit, a triple. The lineup left eight runners on base.
On the bases, Saggese stole his 10th bag of the season. Behind the plate, Antonini committed a throwing error.

The Peoria Chiefs (24-17) were out-slugged by the Beloit Sky Carp (MIA, 20-21) on Saturday night at ABC Supply Stadium.
In a bullpen game required after starter Trent Baker was a late scratch, Joseph King tossed the first two innings and was touched for six runs on seven hits and one walk. The 22-year-old took his second High-A loss.
The Sky Carp opened the game with three runs in the first but Jeremy Rivas brought in a run with a sacrifice fly in the second. Beloit answered with three more runs in the bottom half. In the third, Jimmy Crooks cleared the loaded bases with a double. Rivas scored Crooks with a single to cut the deficit to one at 6-5.

From there, the Chiefs would get no closer as the Sky Carp pulled away against the Peoria pen. Dionys Rodriguez gave up three runs in two innings and Nathaniel Heredia surrendered two more in three innings with three hits, four walks and one strikeout. In the ninth inning, Jack Ralston fanned two for a scoreless frame.
Alex Iadisernia tripled in the sixth inning to bring two runs across and make the score 11-7.
The Peoria lineup recorded 10 hits and three walks but went 3-for-14 with runners in scoring position. Crooks was 3-for-4 with two doubles, three RBI and two runs scored. Thomas Francisco doubled and singled. Francisco Hernandez recorded a single, two walks and scored two runs.
On the base paths, Hernandez took his seventh bag of 2023. In the field, Rivas committed his 17th error of the year and Luis Rodriguez had a passed ball.
Sunday’s game: at Beloit, RHP Zane Mills (4-5, 5.76) vs. RHP Alex Williams (2-5, 4.84) 1:05 CT
The Palm Beach Cardinals (19-20) topped the St. Lucie Mets (NYM, 12-29) at Clover Park on Saturday.
The Beach Birds put up five runs in the first two innings. In the first, Michael Curialle doubled to plate one. Sammy Hernandez drove in one with a single in the second. Won-Bin Cho and Zach Levenson scored via sacrifice flies. Curialle closed out the inning with an RBI single.
Starter Hancel Rincon pitched 4 1/3 innings and gave up four runs on eight hits and no walks. The 21-year-old fanned five.
Out of the bullpen, Angel Cuenca earned his second win after he surrendered a run in 2 2/3 innings with three punchouts. Henry Gomez yielded two unearned runs in the final two innings.
In the sixth inning, Lizandro Espinoza’s double scored one. Cho grounded out with a runner coming home to make the score 7-4. Curialle walked with the bases loaded and Chase Davis plated two with a single in the eighth inning.
Espinoza went 4-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. In his first game with Palm Beach, Hernandez was 2-for-3 with two walks, three runs and one RBI. Curialle and Davis scored two runs each. William Sullivan singled twice, tripled and came across two times. The lineup still left nine runners on base.
Tre Richardson took his third bag of the year. Espinoza and Brayden Jobert both committed an error.

FCL Cardinals 2, FCL Marlins 11
The Florida Complex League Cardinals (17-27) fell to the Marlins (24-22) on Saturday afternoon in Jupiter.
In a bullpen game, Wilmer Ortega tossed three scoreless innings with one strikeout. In relief, Omar Yanez yielded four runs in 1 2/3 innings. The right-hander struck out three and took his third loss. Diorys Guerrero threw two scoreless innings and fanned two.
Alejandro Loaiza blasted a solo home run in the fifth inning, his second of the season. Anyelo Encarnacion brought in a run via groundout in the ninth.
Luis Gastelum was touched for one run in 1 1/3 frames. Alejandro Cervantes gave up six runs, five earned, and could not record an out. Randel Clemente had a scoreless inning.
The lineup went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position with only four hits and four walks. Jonathan Mejia, Felix Taveras, Luis Pino and Loaiza had the only hits. Raul Guzman walked twice.
On the bases, Taveras and Pino both stole a base. In the field, Fernando Diaz and Pino both committed an error. Loaiza had two throwing errors. Yaisel Ramos threw a runner out at second from center field.
Monday’s game: vs. FCL Mets, TBA vs. TBA 11:00 CT (The Cardinals are off Sunday)
DSL Cardinals 3, DSL Phillies White 16
The Dominican Summer League Cardinals (14-32) were destroyed by the Phillies (39-9) on Saturday afternoon after the defense committed seven errors that led to eight unearned runs.
Seven different pitchers were used in Saturday’s game and runs were scored against each, though the defense had a big part in it. Stiveen Rojas took his fourth loss after he yielded four runs, one earned, in three innings on five hits, two walks and five strikeouts. Jovi Galvez surrendered four scores in the fourth inning. Jarol Baez was touched for three runs, two earned, in one inning with two punchouts.
In the sixth, Kener Perez was charged with one run. Juan Severino and Bernard Mack both allowed unearned runs in one inning each. In the final inning, Emisael Carrera gave up two unearned runs.
The only Cardinals runs came in the ninth inning. Arfeni Batista doubled to score one and Fernando Roquez drove in two with a double.
Bracewell Taveras and Roquez had two hits. Four different hitters doubled, but the lineup went 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position and left 10 runners on base. The pitching yielded 16 runs but only half were earned.
Roquez took his second base of the year. Batista and Roquez committed two errors each. Rojas, Taveras and Chris Lopez all had one.
