This is my weekly trip to the Gasthof in Montgomery today. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes/gravy, green beans, noodles, dressing, fish, sweet tea, cherry cobbler, and some soft serve ice cream. I’ll have to forego the cigar on the porch area due to this game starting at 3:40 my time. Plus it’s going to be very hot here in SW Indiana the next few days so sitting out in the heat and smoking a cigar wouldn’t be all that fun.

Sure would like to win this one. And then sweep the Cubs, or at least take three of four. That would be payback for last weekend.

Taking a gander at the late Tuesday evening out-of-town scoreboard:

The Cubs down the White Sox at Comiskey Park by the score of 7-3.

The Reds hold on at Miller Park to beat the Brewers 4-3. It was 4-0 heading to the last of the 9th but Milwaukee rallied and then had two on and two outs but Mastureino flied out to end it.

Pittsburgh lost 5-1 to San Diego at Jack Murphy Stadium.

And I turned the Toronto/Dodgers game off in the top of the 9th when the Jays got up 7-3. But the Dodgers rallied for four runs in the 9th and then won it in the last of the 10th. 8-7 LA the final.

This will most likely be Flaherty’s final appearance in a Cardinal uniform.

Will miss this one as I am at the airport preparing to fly to Chicago for a couple of days at the National Sports Collectors convention. Any TCNers also attending?

Matz with a nice effort last night and certainly he is trending upwards. Doubt a contender takes a flyer on him though. Heck, if he can pitch like he has been lately, he is what we need in 2024.

Boy, wouldn’t it be nice if Flaherty could twirl 7+ innings of magic to up his trade value a bit? 10 Ks and 0 walks would do wonders for our return.

Hoping for the same magic from Monty before he gets shipped off as well.

I mention this a lot, but every time I see Goldy at 2 and Noot at 3 it looks like a misprint. It seems like it would be like looking at the ‘61 Yankees and seeing this at the top of the order:

    Richardson
    Mantle
    Kubek
    Maris

OlliMo’s computer knows best Mike. I can just imagine how many simulations were ran to Devine the optimized lineup.

Well if there are too many batters in a row that hit from the same side of the plate the computers will explode. They must be alternated.

Whoa! Manny Motter just drew a BB! They’re afraid to work to him…

I guess we can wonder about Arenado sitting out. Probably just getting a day off. Probably.

I thought for sure that DeJong would rip one into the gap to push Manny across…K.

Gorman now with a 21 HR’s. He’s got a decent chance to place 30 taters in his sack before season’s end and I think he may hit 40 HR’s in a season before he’s all done.

We were saying the same thing about O’Neill a couple years ago, and the same about DeJong a couple years before that. You just never know.

I’m so tired of O’Neill striking out with RISP and less than 2 outs. Bat on ball skills suck.

I never said that about O’Neill. In my view his bat does not generate near the power as does Gorman’s. And Gorman’s power seems to come from an effortless rip. The baseball emerges from his bat as if it’s emerged from an underground silo. When O’Neill taters up, he seems to muscle it out. Not Gorman. I think the power from his bat comes almost entirely from his hands and wrists.

But where would we be without Ozuna?

Is it just me or does it seem as if Flaherty cannot remain focused during the game. Ever since the COVID season he does not appear to be able to maintain his focus completely through an inning.

Is it just because he doesn’t want to be in St. Louis or is there some other issue going on with him?!?!

Well, a 5 inning start isn’t exactly great. Gave up the lead twice. If that’s the last of him, good luck.

I think not wanting to be in St. Louis is part of it but he should pitch well regardless of his feelings. He will be free agent and he is hurting his value.
