The St. Louis Cardinals system went 1-0 on Sunday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day is Memphis left fielder Chase Pinder. TCN’s no. 48 prospect had two hits, two walks, two RBI, a run, two stolen bases and an outfield assist. Three relievers added five scoreless innings.
Game played Easter Sunday, April 9.
The Memphis Redbirds (4-5) topped the Nashville Sounds (5-4, MIL) on Sunday afternoon at AutoZone Park. The two clubs split the six-game series.
Starter Tommy Parsons tossed four innings and was charged with a run on two hits, one walk and four strikeouts. James Naile earned his second win of the year after three scoreless frames. The right-hander has a 0.00 ERA in six innings this season.
The Redbirds did all their scoring early, striking first with three runs in the first inning. Kramer Robertson came across on a wild pitch and Chase Pinder drove in two with a single. After the Sounds responded with a run in the second, Oscar Mercado scored on a fielder’s choice and Moisés Gómez added another run on a sacrifice fly. Errol Robinson doubled in Pinder in the third to make the score 6-1.
With five scoreless frames, the bullpen was lights out for Memphis. Guillermo Zuñiga threw a scoreless eighth and Jake Walsh fanned two in the ninth.
Memphis recorded eight hits and five walks against Nashville. Pinder went 2-for-2 with two walks, two RBI and a run scored. Gómez had two hits and Robinson doubled twice. The lineup went 2-for-17 with runners in scoring position but still managed to score six runs.
The Redbirds were running on the base paths on Sunday with six stolen bases. Pinder stole two bags. Robinson, Gómez, Tres Barrera and Masyn Winn all took one.
In an amazing game, Pinder also recorded an outfield assist from left field.
