ParticipantWho would have thought a month or two ago that today’s starters at AAA and AA would be Hudson and Matz.
September 6, 2022 at 4:25 pm #199391Hudson will be starting for Cleveland in April 2023. He’ll be a part of the Triston McKenzie deal! (A guy can dream, right?)
September 6, 2022 at 7:00 pm #199403
stlcard25ParticipantMatz went an inning and a third, struck out three. The box score says he walked three but I only count two.
I guess this explains it:
Matz is on the hard pitch count at 30, so he'll exit the game with a 3-1 count to the 2nd batter of the 2nd inning. He threw 15 of 30 pitches for strikes even though he was right around the zone the entire start.

September 6, 2022 at 8:38 pm #199427All indications are that when Matz rejoins the Cardinals he will work out of the bullpen for the remainder of the season.
September 6, 2022 at 10:24 pm #199468
stlcard25ParticipantYep. The bullpen is starting to look better with some guys coming back. The one question would be who takes the lefty spot(s) beyond Matz. Thompson seems a solid bet, but probably not Romero.
September 6, 2022 at 10:25 pm #199469
stlcard25ParticipantBtw, Hudson threw 8-2/3 shutout innings in Memphis tonight.
September 7, 2022 at 6:58 am #199478The #STLCards system was 2-2 on Tuesday. TCN’s Players of the Day are Memphis 1B Juan Yepez, 3-for-5 with a HR and 3 RBI, and Dakota Hudson with 8 2/3 scoreless IP. Other standouts: Kramer Robertson, Cory Spangenberg, L.J. Jones & Gustavo Rodriguez. (free) https://t.co/ceQL2ITyfz pic.twitter.com/CF5cxQpjog

September 7, 2022 at 7:57 am #199482Brian left Alec Burleson out of his comments on Memphis. He had 3 hits and an RBI and raised his BA to .331.
September 7, 2022 at 9:01 am #199488bccran
ParticipantThank you for the correction, GameCard. I was wondering the same thing.
September 7, 2022 at 10:25 am #199492
stlcard25ParticipantAntico has been very solid this year. The speed may get him to the big leagues even if the bat doesn’t get any better. He’s got to be on the radar for the OF in a couple years.

Marilyn Green is the author. I am the editor.
The two of you apparently missed this:
“Alec Burleson plated Hurst on a single.”
and this:
“Burleson was 3-for-5 with an RBI.”

ParticipantThanks. The “cover” post by the facilitator at 6:58am didn’t mention that. But the full write up did.
Glad the Memphis reporter included it.September 7, 2022 at 10:52 am #199499Twitter has a character limit. Memphis scored 12 runs and was just one of four games so putting everyone in the headline is not practical. Others had bigger games than Burleson in our view. I get that certain players are hot buttons for certain posters, but actually reading the article first before piling on would be appreciated.
September 7, 2022 at 10:52 am #199500
stlcard25ParticipantI appreciate the folks who decide on the Players of the Day and notable players…a few players like Walker and Burleson probably could be picked most every day but I’m glad others get highlighted.
September 7, 2022 at 10:56 am #199501Thanks, stlcard25. We aren’t perfect, but it is a lot of work to bring these FREE recaps of every game every morning for six months straight. Glad that it is not always taken for granted.
September 7, 2022 at 11:02 am #199505bccran
ParticipantRecaps are great. Thanks for doing them. Some of us just look at the box scores everyday. Quick check.
September 7, 2022 at 11:42 am #199512
stlcard25ParticipantBTW, besides Williams, it sure seems like the other three guys will have a good shot at making it to the majors, possibly all as starters. I like the potential there.
September 7, 2022 at 12:58 pm #199516bccran
ParticipantAt the risk of pushing the merry-go-round to keep it turning, does anyone know who leads all AAA players (30 teams) in BA? And whose 2nd among all AAA players (30 teams) in slugging percentage? And who leads all AAA players (30 teams) in RBI? And is the only player in all the the minor leagues who has a K rate under 15% and 20 or more HRs?
September 7, 2022 at 1:54 pm #199521I did not note that Memphis is playing two tonight. Tommy Parsons is to start Game 1.
September 7, 2022 at 3:20 pm #199540
stlcard25ParticipantSo with the Burleson news, is there a chance that Walker gets bumped to Memphis, or is that roster fully stocked already?
September 8, 2022 at 7:53 am #199675Hearing Walker isn’t moving up but preparing for AFL but that could change.
September 8, 2022 at 7:53 am #199676The #stlcards system was 2-2 on Wednesday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day is C Leonardo Bernal, whose three-run homer powered Palm Beach to a win in extras. Other standouts include Todd Lott, Tommy Parsons, Aaron McKeithan, and Tink Hence. (free) https://t.co/GGESTy6xrG pic.twitter.com/5etGvhoKg7

September 8, 2022 at 8:03 am #199677I keep hoping for McGreevy in the standouts after a start.
