Cardinals Minor League Notebook – July 19, 2022

The St. Louis Cardinals system went 0-1 on Monday with the DSL team taking a walkoff loss in extras. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day is right fielder Jose Suarez, who went 3-for-5 with two home runs and an RBI double.

The Memphis Redbirds (50-40) are 4.5 games back of the Nashville Sounds.

DSL Cardinals 7 at DSL Colorado 8 (10 innings)

The Dominican Summer League Cardinals (17-17) were walked off by Colorado (22-12) on Monday afternoon.

Starter Darlin Saladin tossed five innings with a run given up on four hits, three walks and four strikeouts. Diego Dominguez yielded three runs in one inning.

The Cardinals scored five of their seven runs in the fourth through seventh innings. Yordalin Pena and Jose Suarez hit back-to-back solo home runs in the fourth. Luis Rodriguez recorded an RBI single in the fifth. Suarez hit another homer in the sixth and Carlos Carmona hit a solo shot in the seventh.

Omar Yanez surrendered a run in three innings off three hits, one walk and five strikeouts. In the 10th inning, Bruno Lopez was charged with three runs, two earned, on two hits and one walk. The 20-year-old took his first loss of the season.

In the 10th, Suarez doubled to score a run, his third hit and RBI of the game. Suarez came across on a wild pitch. Colorado won the game in the home half.

Suarez went 3-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored. Anyelo Encarnacion and Arfeni Batista had two hits each. The lineup recorded 13 hits and went 3-for-12 with runners in scoring position.

Encarnacion took two bags and Carmona stole one. Pena recorded an outfield assist.

The Cardinals are five games back of first place Colorado.
