On Saturday, the St. Louis Cardinals system went 1-5 including three one-run losses. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, DH Alec Burleson, had two hits, two RBI and a run scored in Memphis’ road win. Other standouts include Luken Baker, Dalton Roach and Jhon Torres.

The Memphis Redbirds (45-38) topped the Durham Bulls (TB, 45-38) at Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Saturday, snapping their three-game losing skid.
Starter Jake Woodford pitched two scoreless innings with one hit, two walks and two strikeouts. In a rehab assignment from St. Louis, T.J. McFarland tossed a 1-2-3 inning with one strikeout.
In the second inning, Luken Baker and Cory Spangenberg hit solo home runs. The Redbirds added on two more in the fifth after Alec Burleson and Clint Coulter both singled. Scott Hurst drove in a run in the sixth.

Thomas Parsons won his team-high sixth game after giving up two runs in 4 2/3 innings. The right-hander yielded three hits, three walks and four strikeouts. Zach McAllister closed out the final 1 1/3 innings with two walks and three strikeouts.
Memphis added four more runs in the eighth inning. Irving Lopez doubled to plate one and Moisés Gómez brought across one via sacrifice fly. Burleson hit an RBI double and Baker closed out the inning with an RBI single.
The Redbirds recorded 14 hits and five walks. Coulter had three hits and five other players had two. Burleson and Baker both recorded two RBI. Hurst and Evan Mendoza came across twice each.
Mendoza took his 11th bag of 2022. Hurst recorded an outfield assist after he threw out a runner at home.
Sunday’s game: at Durham, RHP Aaron Brooks (3-4, 7.31) vs. TBA 4:05 CT
The Springfield Cardinals (5-6) lost to the Arkansas Travelers (SEA, 7-4) on Saturday at Dickey-Stephens Park. TCN’s no. 3 prospect, Masyn Winn, had the night off.
Starter Connor Lunn gave up five runs in four innings on seven hits, two walks and four strikeouts. The right-hander took his fourth loss of the season. In his first game back with Springfield, Griffin Roberts tossed a scoreless inning with one hit and one strikeout.
In the fifth, Mike Antico plated Roberto Baldoquin with a single. Aaron Antonini scored on a wild pitch in the seventh inning.
Dalton Roach and Michael Brettell closed out the last three innings. Roach threw a perfect two innings before Brettell yielded two hits in the final frame.
Antico and Baldoquin had two hits apiece. The lineup went 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position and struck out 11 times.
Antico recorded an outfield assist and Baldoquin committed a fielding error.
Sunday’s game: at Arkansas, RHP Edgar Escobar (4-5, 7.47) vs. Taylor Dollard (8-2, 1.38) 1:35 CT
The Peoria Chiefs (5-9) fell to the Beloit Sky Carp (MIA, 7-7) at Dozer Park on Saturday night.
Starter Zane Mills gave up four runs on 13 hits in 5 2/3 innings. The right-hander fanned three and took his fifth loss with Peoria. Enmanuel Solano surrendered two runs on four hits in 1 1/3 innings. Andre Granillo tossed a scoreless two innings.
The only Chiefs run came off the bat of Todd Lott in the sixth inning. The right fielder drove in Tommy Jew via groundout.
The lineup went 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position and recorded only five hits. No player recorded a multi-hit game. The defense turned three double plays.
Jew stole his 20th bag of the year and Reichenborn recorded an outfield assist. The opposing DH went 5-for-5 with three RBI.
Sunday’s game: vs. Beloit, RHP Wilfredo Pereira (3-4, 3.84) vs. RHP Jackson Rose (1-1, 1.71) 1:35 CT
The Palm Beach Cardinals (9-5) were edged by the Jupiter Hammerheads (MIA, 7-7) at Roger Dean Stadium on Saturday night. Every Cardinal pitcher gave up at least one run.
Trent Baker yielded five runs in five innings on five hits and three walks. The right-hander fanned five. Jack Ralston tossed two innings and yielded one run, two hits and three strikeouts.
After the Hammerheads scored four runs in the first, the Beach Birds plated all seven runs in the fifth through seventh innings. Jhon Torres scored on a wild pitch in the fifth. Jesus Orecchia plated one and Darlin Moquete scored on a wild pitch in the sixth inning. In the seventh, Aaron McKeithan and Moquete both scored one. Torres hit a two-run double to take the lead 7-6.
Roy Garcia pitched the eighth inning and yielded two runs on two hits and three walks. The right-hander took his second loss and third blown save.
Patrick Romeri and Torres recorded multi-hit games. Torres had one walk, two hits, a run scored and two RBI. The lineup went 3-for-13 with runners in scoring position.
Moquete stole his third bag of the year.
Sunday’s game: at Jupiter, LHP Alex Cornwell (3-1, 3.86) vs. TBA 11:00 CT
FCL Cardinals 1 at FCL Marlins 2
The Florida Complex League Cardinals (10-13) lost to the Marlins (14-10) on Saturday afternoon at Roger Dean Stadium.
Starter Hancel Rincon tossed five innings with two runs surrendered in the first. The 20-year-old fanned five and took his third loss. The rest of the pitching did not give up any runs. Augusto Calderon pitched 1 1/3 innings with three hits and one strikeout yielded. Edwin Nunez threw a hitless 2/3 of an inning and Victor Villanueva recorded a scoreless eighth inning.
The only Cardinal run came off the bat of Luis Pino in the sixth inning. The 18-year-old singled to plate one.
The lineup struck out 17 times and went 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position. Adari Grant and Francis Reynoso struck out three times each.
Jeremy Ramos came across once and stole his third bag of the season.
Monday’s game: vs. FCL Marlins, TBA vs. TBA 11:00 CT (The Cardinals are off Sunday)
DSL Cardinals 4, DSL D-Backs 5 (7 innings)
The Dominican Summer League Cardinals (12-15) fell to the D-Backs (18-7) on Saturday morning. Only seven innings were played.
Starter Leonel Sequera pitched three innings and surrendered an unearned run. The 16-year-old fanned three batters. Samuel Fabian tossed one inning with three runs, two earned, given up on two walks and one strikeout.
The Cardinals scored three of their four runs in the first inning. Justin Guerrero plated one via sacrifice fly. Yordalin Pena and Arfeni Batista both singled to drive in a run to take a 3-0 lead. In the fourth, Jonathan Mejia hit a solo home run, the first of his professional career.
Miguel Martinez took his first loss of the season in two innings pitched. The right-hander yielded a solo homer and struck out two. Juan Severino closed out the game with a scoreless inning.
The Cardinals had six hits, two walks and went 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position. No player had more than one hit. Yancel Guerrero struck out three times in three at-bats.
Yordalin Pena stole his fourth bag of the year. Justin Guerrero, Mejia and Batista all committed an error.
