I haven’t critiqued Shildt’s batting orders, but noticing DeJong is batting 5th made me take a closer look. And after taking a look, I have no countering suggestions. Just confirms for me the quality of the hitters in the order trumps the order itself.
O’Niel still out today. Nooty terrible hitter against LH pitching. Great to see Goldy with 1st inning dinger. Not starting 2 runs down today
I got my re-issued 1998 set of player cards from Strat-O-Matic today. Might have to play some with the 1998 Cardinals, see how McGwire does. But I can’t start until after my din-din from the Amish restaurant, the Gasthof.
And I noticed something on Baseball Reference yesterday. I didnt realize this until I started looking at the ’98 Cardinals. Sammy Sosa hit 66 homeruns in 1998, 63 in 1999, and 64 in 2001. And he did NOT win a homerun title either of those three years!

Yeah CIF they usually do that when we’re badly behind. We’re ahead today but this Tigers pitchers got like 4 different pitches from 70 to 90. Our guys need to quit swinging at balls though.
Off Topic:
I was browsing channels during Inning break and saw the replay of the
Brewers vs Reds from last night.Burnes was pitching for the Brewers.
He has a Mullet hair style which is long in the back. It looks greasy and dirty
and he plays with it between every pitch. I noticed this when he pitched against us.Why aren’t the umpires speaking to him to keep his hands off of his hair????
Or…. put it up in a ponytail so he’s not touching it all the time.If they are going to check gloves and caps for foreign substances… how about good
ole human oil in the hair?????I know…. my comment sounds stupid…. but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Despite some of the naysayers Goldy is actually having a very solid year.
I agree. His OBP hasn’t been what we’d like but he’s been about what you’d hope for from a 1B his age. He’s at 3.5 bWAR, which puts him on pace for 4+. No complaints there.
Maybe we found one or two more pieces for our bullpen next year in McFarland and Garcia. I guess that’s the bright side of having to bring in a bunch of journeymen
Yes stlcard was looking at some player stats last week and actually Goldy and Arrenado respectively have our highest stats. Maybe not as high as we would like them to be. Need some other guys to step up. Some are coming along I suppose. Sure better than they were last year.
