Also BSSW+ in Oklahoma and Arkansas and BSSO in TN, KY and MSAugust 14, 2021 at 10:29 pm #169850Tyler Gilbert of the Dbacks throws the 7th no-hitter of the 2021 season. He downs the Padres 7-0. It was only the 2nd time in MLB history that a pitcher tossed a no-hitter in his first ever start. The only other was Bobo Holloman for the St. Louis Browns in 1953 against the Philadelpha Athletics.

August 15, 2021 at 11:28 am #169868Today is Andrew Knizner’s fourth start in the last ten #stlcards games, all with Yadier Molina on the active roster. That’s an unprecedented duty split for that duo.

August 15, 2021 at 12:24 pm #169870Against the lefty too bad Carlson has a boo boo. But the Nootster can continue his audition for 4th outfielder and a spot on the post season roster.
We are 4.5 out of the second wild card slot and riding a 5 game winning streak. With 46 games left, if we run the table we end up 106-56, so we have a lot of wiggle room to shake off the occasional loss.

ParticipantWell we started out great but oneil lines out, bader strikes out looking at a fastball go by. Maybe nooty can get it done here.

ParticipantI just don’t believe in a strike out by looking on a fastball. You want to guess or look for certain pitches, fine before two strikes. But on third strike, you look always look fastball. If you can’t pull trigger on a offspeed pitch then fine, tip your hat.
August 15, 2021 at 1:30 pm #169873Nice at bat by Lars. Great at bat by Rondo. O’Neill and Bader could learn from those old vets.

ParticipantRondon comes through. That’s big to put up a crooked number. I still don’t like bader hitting high in the lineup. They seem to pay attention to all these numbers but don’t pay attention to fact that he doesn’t hit well with runners in scoring position.
August 15, 2021 at 1:36 pm #169875Can’t complain about that start. Well, you could, but hey, three runs in the first gives you a warm, fuzzy feeling.

ParticipantWell our big guys doing damage at damage time. I know it’s royals but still feels nice.

ParticipantOneil with his 20 of the season.
August 15, 2021 at 2:05 pm #169878Well, the Cards will head into the Milwaukee series hotter than a firecracker but bear in mind who they have been playing….
At least they are back in the mix and these games have meaning – unlike the Cubs, Royals, and Pirates who are well and truly done for 2021.
Matheney really does not have much to work with….
August 15, 2021 at 2:30 pm #1698801982 willie
ParticipantTeams like the royals have to work really hard in development and have a plan for basically about a 2 to 4 year period of time where they can be successful and once they feel that time slipping away, move on pretty quickly to development. It’s not a bad way of doing things really if you have a fairly dedicated fan base.
August 15, 2021 at 2:31 pm #169881Matheney really does not have much to work with
And vice versa
August 15, 2021 at 2:35 pm #1698821982 willie
ParticipantYea Milwaukee will be a big test. But all you can do is go game by game. I think if the games are competitive and we don’t have to overuse bullpen, we will be ok no matter what.Thats what I’m hoping anyway.
August 15, 2021 at 2:41 pm #169884Hypothetical would you give up Liberatore, Edman, and Bader for Salvy? Would the royals do that trade? What would it take. Or perhaps go after Contreras in a year? I don’t think the Cards have their next Catcher.
August 15, 2021 at 2:54 pm #1698861982 willie
ParticipantNo Perez is too old and better to develop your own catcher. I think that’s why knizner is getting a lot more time lately. We have been kind of out of the playoff race even though technically we still have a chance and the Cardinals need to see what knizner can do with extended time. I believe molina will probably be back but they need to see whether to stick with knizner as backup or include him in a trade package. Tim will tell
August 15, 2021 at 2:54 pm #1698871982 willie
ParticipantI meant time not Tim.
August 15, 2021 at 3:11 pm #169888Perez is only 29. Should have at least 5 good years left. We have a 38 year old doing pretty well right now.
August 15, 2021 at 3:19 pm #169889Nooty lookin’ like a natural in the of today!
August 15, 2021 at 3:21 pm #169890Nado dinger in each of last three games? I think so?
August 15, 2021 at 3:29 pm #169891The guys seem to have lost their early-inning edge. Need to keep those bats working before rust sets in.
August 15, 2021 at 3:37 pm #169893Yeah CIF with this early lead it looks like we’re taking the first hittable pitch maybe to shorten the game? O’Niel with a circus catch and an early homer. He looked like my dog catching a opossum but he got it!
August 15, 2021 at 3:43 pm #169894Woof!
