From among eight finalists across the #stlcards system, Jake Walsh is The Cardinal Nation's choice as the Pitcher of the Month for May after posting a stellar 1.29 ERA over nine appearances for Springfield. (free) https://t.co/1AOxgFcyKB pic.twitter.com/lIsjqgCA3g

June 1, 2021 at 8:12 pm #163011I think the pitcher and hitter of the month are no brainers. Pretty sure Burleson would be the latter.
June 2, 2021 at 9:00 am #163042Two outfielders in the #stlcards system had exceptional Mays, both with OPSes over 1.000. In his professional debut, Alec Burleson edged Lars Nootbaar as The Cardinal Nation's Player of the Month. (free) https://t.co/on0A4QK8KP pic.twitter.com/eYO6dFjeOL

June 3, 2021 at 3:14 pm #163112The Cardinals organization announced its May selections and they are the same as ours.
June 3, 2021 at 5:26 pm #163115It is nice to have Burleson and Nootbar doing well.
I will say the lack of depth in the high minors is concerning, but I’m here to talk about the positives. Seeing two top prospects in their age 20 season (Herrera and Gorman) having success at Double-A already is great to see
We might not have pitching depth, but Liberatore has top of the rotation stuff, which we haven’t really seen much in our minor leagues the last few years. Even when Flaherty was cruising through the minors, there were questions about whether his stuff was top of the rotation. His stuff is good, but not elite compared to some of the top end guys these days. The elite tunneling makes up for that though
Also very nice to see our first round pick, Jordan Walker, have such a hot start to full season ball at age 18. Just hope he gets healthy soon.
So to sum things up, the depth appears to be lacking but we seem to have more prospects with potential to be big league cornerstones. Not saying they all will be or they all won’t be, but it builds some excitement
September 2, 2021 at 1:22 pm #171468In a landslide, Memphis cornerman Juan Yepez is The Cardinal Nation’s top hitter in the @stlcards system during the month of August. All the 23-year-old did is lead the organization in HR, RBI, SLG and OPS. Many other standouts are highlighted, too. (free) https://t.co/O045mpobX4 pic.twitter.com/nXUS1qEg9U

ParticipantAnyone know why Burleson has cooled off so much? Just stiffer competition?
September 2, 2021 at 3:00 pm #171471VEB made a comment that his approach seems to have changed in AAA. He seems to be less aggressive early on against the stiffer competition from what the VEB article says
It’s his first pro season and he’s made it all the way to AAA, so I don’t think it’s anything alarming or unexpected at this point

ParticipantDoes yepez only play third.
September 2, 2021 at 6:13 pm #171481“Pez” can pick-it at 1st, Willie….plays a very respectable 1st base. And, as any major leaguer, not named “Yadier Benjamin Molina, can attest to, could also be pressed into service out in left field too, if the situation called for it. I definitely see “Pez” ending up at 1st base……Tony Perez anyone?
September 2, 2021 at 6:19 pm #171483All the 23-year-old did is lead the organization in HR, RBI, SLG and OPS.
But what about the stuff that matters like exit velocity, launch angle and barrel rate?
September 2, 2021 at 7:47 pm #171484Yepez, Gorman, Walker, and maybe Plummer, and possibly Baez…… I don’t remember a time when there was this much offense in this organization.
September 2, 2021 at 7:54 pm #171485bling, did anyone actually say the measures you cite are more important? For me, I try to consider where all metrics fit rather than erroneously assuming it is an “either or” decision.
To answer your question directly, I don’t have access to those stats for these players during August. But if I did, I would certainly consider it, but more to break ties than as a primary criteria.
September 2, 2021 at 8:00 pm #1714871982willie asked:
Does yepez only play third.
From the article on the home page:
“Yepez’ career as a professional began way back in 2015 in the Atlanta Braves organization. He became a Cardinal the first time Matt Adams left the organization in May 2017. Then a third baseman, Yepez moved to first and later added the corner outfield positions as well.”
September 2, 2021 at 8:11 pm #171488bccran
ParticipantYepez has played 38 games in the outfield.

ParticipantCool kind of a jack of a lot of trades like pujols. Could he possibly end up replacing goldy a couple years down the line once his contract runs it’s course. Maybe start out coming off bench for outfield then go to first. I like goldy but I don’t want to have another matt carpenter situation down the line.
September 3, 2021 at 12:03 am #171494Beller might be the best choice for pitcher of the month. Unless there is a DSL candidate that has pitched better.
September 3, 2021 at 11:50 am #171544From among 11 finalists across the #stlcards system with ERAs under 3.00, LH Austin Warner is our choice as the Pitcher of the Month for August after dominating for Triple-A Memphis in a new role, relief. (free) https://t.co/7lpIGxbQwr pic.twitter.com/LYRgYyxBjR

September 3, 2021 at 5:00 pm #171564Predictably, the organization selected Liberatore as their Pitcher of the Month. They couldn’t ignore Juan Yepez for Player of the Month.
September 3, 2021 at 5:44 pm #171566It’s not that Warner hasn’t gotten noticed before. He was midseason all star in 2018 and 2019. I wonder how his pitches grade out. I hope he does well next spring.
September 3, 2021 at 5:51 pm #171568bling, did anyone actually say the measures you cite are more important?
Brian I asked because a couple other prospects who have put up good looking traditional hitting stats in AAA were offloaded, so I figured the organization is looking at the sexier stuff.
September 3, 2021 at 6:07 pm #171570I think Graceffo would have been my choice.
